Let's talk about irons...

I want a new iron for Christmas. I'm guessing that a Rowenta would be the best available. I want an iron that steams like crazy when I want it to and that will be hot enough to remove wrinkles and that will glide over my clothes.

The problem is that there are so many different Rowenta irons that I have no idea which one would be the best one.

So, please provide me with your thoughts and comments on this subject. I don't care about the cost, but I don't want to spend more than is necessary, either.

Rowenta is great. I've had about 12 irons before that and the Rowenta is wonderful.

Word of caution though--do NOT buy the cheapest Rowenta. It is made in Mexico and is a piece of crap. The next step up or higher are the best. Just check for the ones that say "Made in Germany" on the box.

My parents learned this the hard way. They bought a "cheap" Rowenta on my recommendation. It never got real hot. The exchanged it. It never got real hot. That's when the noticed the "Mexico" thing and looked at the other models. They got the more expensive one and they love it.

I just bought the professional Rowenta a few months ago and love it. It steams great and makes ironing so much faster and easier. It was about $100, but I figure after all the years I'd bought the cheap kinds, I'm going to end up saving money in the long run.

Here's a link to mine, got it at Target. I think you'll like it a lot.

I have a Rowenta too. Make sure what ever one you get has the stainless steel soleplate and not the non-stick kind. The stainless steel glides over clothes so much better.

I was going to recommend some Calloways but they don't put out any steam.. :badpc:

I have the Rowenta also. Paid alittle over $100.00 for it. I have it now for 3 yrs and it gets used almost every day. Glides great and does make ironing sooo much easier, but, steam doesn't come out anymore. I'm guessing the steam canal is broken or clogged. In any event, when I do get a new one, I'll be getting the same one. When it worked fully, it did a great job.

Just bought my dad a set of Big Berthas for Christmas with senior grip and shafts with A flex. He's a very happy camper. But again, no steam.

I looked at the one that Magickndm linked in her post. Looks good... I went to www.bizrate.com and searched on that model number and found it at www.etronics.com for less than Target's list price. I went to www.currentcodes.com and found a code for etronics to get a free gift with purchase over $50. They are sending me a home theater cleaning kit with my iron.

Next step is to tell DH that he bought me this iron. :cheer2: Hmm, next, I want a deep fryer.

Wow! What a deal! One thing that could help keep your steam mechanism from clogging is use only bottled water in it...no tap.
We must be cosmic twins or something since we just bought a deep fryer too! :rotfl:
