A young woman where I work is pregnant and due at the end of February. About 6 weeks ago, a co-worker close to her sent out a facebook "save the date" type of note to a bunch of us, informing us that she was throwing a shower, date of Dec 5, and requested home addresses to mail invitations out.
One woman (a good friend of mine) replied back, "Gosh, that's so nice of you! Let me know if I can help." And she left her address. Everyone else just replied with addresses. Within days, party-thrower went to the good friend of mine and said, "About that offer to help...can we have the party at your house?" The "venue" had fallen through and she had no place to have the party. My friend said no, but offered to bring fruit and veggie trays.
The date was pushed back a week (to 2 hours before our work Christmas party
hope it doesn't run long) and we got invitations without a location so I'm not sure where the party is. Party-thrower walked in and quit her job at this point.
Since then, I've heard one co-worker mention that she was given a book of baby shower games and asked to plan the games. Others are bringing drinks and ice.
My good friend let me know that the party-thrower approached her on Facebook and asked if I would be willing to provide paper goods. I sent party-thrower a note mentioning that I heard she needed help...?
She sends me back the wishy-washiest note ever! She needs plates, cups, utensils, and tablecloths. Might I know of a place to get them cheaply or would I or someone else be willing to provide them?
She then goes on to say that she is already asking the pregnant girl's mother to "bring way too much!" and that the rest is falling on her. And it's a LOT!
Let's see here....the party is at 2:00 in the afternoon (and 3 hours later, most of us are going to be served a full meal at the Christmas party).
games...check
drinks/ice...check
papergoods...check (I will bring them)
2 cold snacks...check
A couple more snacks, perhaps a hot dish?
A cake?
Have baby showers gotten very complicated? WHAT can she and the girl's mother possibly be providing that is SO much?
