Just for some summer fun, let's speculate...

What, if any, DVC resort(s) will be announced within the next 1-2 years???
You may choose more than one answer if you believe more then one will be announced.

CR(Contemporary Resort) - Loonnnng time rumour. Will it finally come true? Still no North Wing remodel dates.

STOL- The old airstrip just east of the MK parking lot. New rumor that's not going away.

AKL - Been rumored but haven't heard much about this site lately

EP (Eagle Pines)- It has already been announced, so let's say this one has to be re-announced. The plans are done and it's ready to go.

Other WDW - Rumors have it that plans have been drawn up at all deluxe resorts. The Poly and GF could be possible, but how probable?

DL - Disneyland has had lots of rumors since all the guides moved out there. But where would it go?

Hawaii - Could this be the rumored 'something BIG'?

Other Off-Site - Colorado was a rumored site. Also St. Thomas?

None - Nothing is going to happen until SSR is sold out and that won't be for another 2 years.

What do you think?

If I keep my fingers crossed and use all the pixie dust I can find, will it have any influence on making whatever's next be on the MK monorail line?

I do believe in fairies. I do believe in faries.

CR would be the next resort and then AKL, but nothing until SSR is NEARLY sold out.

We are WDW Veterans and just went
to DL for the first time- We went to the preview center of Saratoga Springs at the Disneyland Hotel and spoke to a CM who speculated that the next DVC resort might be built in an unfinished wing of the Grand Californian Hotel at DL?

I'm almost certain it's going to be either the STOLport, or they are just going to let SSR sell out first.

Eagle Pines
What he said

...because of the economics. They can build a much bigger resort (pronounced "profit") there than they can build next to any existing hotel.

I'd bet they are studying something near DL, but I'd be surprised to see anything "off-site," like HI or CO. I think they learned their lessons at HHI and VB.

Um...DVC POP???? Is that a typo?

No I actually wrote that! Not that I think that would happen in a million years but people have speculated that the unfinished section of POP could be become a DVC.

Let me preface this with the statement that I know nothing about timeshare selling or building. I think they will announce a new DVC before SSR sells out. I think they would want to hold it off as long as possible but they need to start work on the next one before the sell out so they will have something to sell. As far what is next... I'm thinking it is CR ...but those rumors of the STOL have me wondering... there seems to be something happening there... it very well could be the next DVC. I also think DL could be sold at the same time. I think it is on a seperate timeline and could sell opposite a WDW resort with no problem.

This rumor was just published on mouseplanet.com today:

By the way...I've seen some reports from SSR and the resort is about 75 to 80 percent sold out.

STOLport rumor resurfaces
While we had first reported, then dismissed the rumor of a Disney Vacation Club resort planned for the current site of the STOLport (the small airport for Short TakeOff and Landing aircraft) adjacent to the Magic Kingdom parking lot, it appears that we can't completely rule the rumor out, either. Apparently, Walt Disney World Operations – which uses the lot as a staging area for buses, among other purposes – will vacate the property and turn it over to Walt Disney Imagineering on September 24, one week before Walt Disney World's annual press event. It's uncertain whether WDI will be using the location as a staging area for another project (such as the rumored DVC resort to be built at the Contemporary Resort's North Garden Wing) or if they will actually build a DVC resort on that site.

There were plans some time ago to reroute World Drive further west at that location, which would allow for some space between the roadway and the Epcot monorail track (helping to fuel the rumor of a resort with monorail access). However, even on those plans, the land was not targeted for resort use. It looks like we'll just have to wait and see what the press event brings.

Well, I'm not 100% sure about that.

If they build on an existing resort, seems to me they can share the same transportation, lobby, front desk, main pool, valet/bell services, other amenities, etc. All things that the current main resort has to currently absorb 100% in it's profitability.

Along comes DVC (can you say VWL & BCV?) and suddenly there is another group to share in those costs as well as absorbing 100% of their own costs.

In addition, it builds a new "wing" of a resort to fill up the resort restaurants more, add more shopping in the gift shop, etc. In other words, it increases the revenues of the existing resort while decreasing the overall costs of the resort.

I think DVC adding on to an existing resort is a brilliant move by Disney. After all, it's hard to figure out exactly how much of the cost of the main resort amenities the DVC villas should absorb, and I imagine it can make both entities a very nice profit.

Personally, that's why I think the dues are higher at resorts such as BWV and VWL. By all rights, they should have the lowest dues of any resorts since they are "sharing" costs and not absorbing them 100% like OKW or SSR.

Just another opinion, for what it's worth. :)

BTW, I voted that there would be no new resort announcements until SSR is almost completely sold out. Who knows? :confused3

For the newbies on the board (me!), what/where is Eagle Pines?

Also, what lessons did they learn at HHI and VB??

If CR it will be the fastest DVC to sell out.

Eagle Pines was a resort that was announced by DVD in 2001 pre 9/11 that was never developed (perhaps some ground work was started but no construction). Later DVD acted on the availability to develope the Disney Institute site into SSR. It is debated whether SSR took the place of Eagle Pines or just it's spot in line.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 23, 2001--Disney Vacation Development, Inc., operators of Disney Vacation Club (DVC) -- Disney's innovative vacation ownership program -- announced today that it will expand its timeshare resort presence at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida (subject to obtaining necessary approvals) by building a seventh DVC property. This latest development for the growing Disney Vacation Club product marks the Company's largest ownership resort project to date.

The announcement heralds a time of exciting growth for Disney Vacation Club, which now boasts a membership of nearly 60,000 member families from over 60 countries.

The proposed 600-unit ownership development is slated to occupy a 61-acre site along the award-winning Disney's Eagle Pines Golf Course at Walt Disney World Resort. All rooms will feature either a pool, golf course or forest view. Initial plans call for the construction of a main Inn building encompassing a check-in area; accommodations; restaurant/lounge; theme pool with feature slide; retail space; arcade; common living room area and a health club, as well as Villa buildings containing vacation home accommodations. Development will begin this fall with an estimated opening in Spring/Summer 2004.

"We are very excited to expand the Disney Vacation Club concept to an entirely new resort area here at Walt Disney World Resort," said George Aguel, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Disney Vacation Development, Inc. "I am confident that this new offering will be a successful addition to the dynamic vacation options we provide."

The theme of the proposed DVC resort will complement and enhance the beautiful setting found at Disney's Eagle Pines Golf Course. The new resort will be inspired by the architecture of Addison Mizner, a celebrated early 20th century architect who led the renaissance of Florida resort design. The property's design will reflect a variety of motifs found in indigenous Florida buildings of this era, including Spanish, Moorish, Romanesque and Gothic forms. The atmosphere and elegance found in the coastal communities of southeast Florida (including West Palm Beach and Boca Raton) will be found in the resort's architecture, ranging from tile roofs to fountains to lush, tropical landscaping.

Commissioned to design the resort was renowned architect Graham Gund, who created the architectural look for such Disney projects as Disney's Coronado Springs Resort and Disney's Vero Beach Resort -- another Disney Vacation Club property. Gund designed the resort to take advantage of the pristine setting found at Disney's Eagle Pines Golf Course while maintaining the integrity of the existing golf course. Guests at the resort will have views to Disney's Eagle Pines Golf Course but golfers' view of the property will be buffered, with resort buildings "stepping down" in height as they near the golf holes.

The new resort is scheduled to open in phases, with the first phase consisting of the Inn building and five Villa buildings for a total of 360 units. The Inn and one Villa building are currently expected to open in Spring/Summer 2004, with the four additional Villa buildings opening throughout the remainder of that year. The final phase of five additional Villa buildings containing 240 units are currently anticipated to open by Spring/Summer 2005.

As Disney Vacation Club approaches its decade mark on October 1, 2001, the Company is celebrating a number of achievements, including the expansion of its resort collection through the proposed addition of the new resort at Disney's Eagle Pines Golf Course and the completion of Disney's Beach Club Villas, which is currently under construction at Walt Disney World Resort next to the popular Disney's Beach Club Resort (expected opening in September 2002).

"These latest expansions of our successful vacation ownership program will allow us to provide still more magical experiences for our guest and member families," added Aguel.

The current collection of Disney Vacation Club Resorts includes Disney's Old Key West Resort; Disney's BoardWalk Villas and The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge -- all located at the Walt Disney World Resort -- as well as Disney's first resorts beyond the Disney theme park locations; Disney's Vero Beach Resort on Florida's Atlantic Coast and Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort in South Carolina.

BTW I voted for DL and STOL (because I'm terribly gulible to new rumors) but my head thinks it's CR.

I voted none till SSR sells out, but would LOVE to see Eagle Pines and the "golf" motif sold! I think EP would be a big hit with Disney.

FWIW, I think Disney is thinking LONG TERM-the next 48 years or so, and they are looking for a BIG resort (EP) to build. What if they start the long rumor of CR, and after 1-2 years, nothing! That's why I think EP-it would take 3-5 years to sell out, THEN maybe CR would be a go...

But, who knows.....???

DeerH

IF DVC's were built up at Contemporary or AKL, I'd have to break it to DH that we need to add on more pts.!!!!!!!! ;)

Well, now I'm going to sit back and watch what you all think.... popcorn::
