YES, I'm having my son skip school for a week. Does that make me a bad mom? Talking with the teachers, many would like me to grab a couple more on our way out.

So, here we are! Just 11 days before we check into the HRH. My coworkers will be glad when I finally leave. Anyone else get that feeling?

This trip will include me, my thirteen year old son, and my mother. Hubby will sit this trip out. I'm starting to feel a little guilty about that now.

We will be driving the 9 hour trip in a rental car. My car has 150k on it and I don't need any surprises. Also, hopefully it will be my son's first car in a few years.

Here's our plan

Sunday: drive all day
Monday: check into HRH, play all day at IOA & US
Tuesday: more play, then move across town to Disney's Boardwalk Villas, Downtown Disney
Wednesday: Hollywood Studios in the a.m. then Epcot
Thursday: Typhoon Lagoon, then MK with Dessert Party
Friday: AK
Saturday: MK then start the drive home

Out of school for a week... nope it makes u a great mom lol especially if ur going w ur mom!

The plans however are totally ambitious. I would totally try that w my kids but not if dh was there lol he would be like relax this is my vacation!

Oh yes! Last visit was 2012 with the Hubbs. He's not an early riser or a late evening person. One morning he was complaining that he had no tv time since the start of vacation (this was day 3). So, we watched a Tom Cruise movie before going to MK for the day. We weren't in any hurry, were we? Oh no, this is great. Just great.

Here's our plan

You are packing a lot into a short period of time, but then again.. I have a tendency to be overambitious! Got to cram as much fun as you can into a short time!! ;)

Can't wait to hear how your trip goes!

Ok guys, I've never posted pictures to this site before. If something goes haywire, I'm new to this. Thought I'd introduce myself. (after all these years)

This is me and the hubs

This is my mom and son in front of my herb garden. I have no idea how to post multiple pictures in a single post. I know I can't seem to do this from my phone.

Lovely pics! So nice to "meet" you".
And your herb garden is beautiful also! Wow! I've grown a few herbs but my they have never gotten so big! :)

That's sweet of you, Mrsabbott. We live in north Alabama, where it's hot and humid. Herbs actually thrive on neglect, which make them my favourite.

Oh my, this week is flying by! Just booked my room for my Sunday travel day. I picked the Best Western Plus across from Universal. Does anyone have experience wirh this hotel? It's a good price with free breakfast.

Hubs said that if my mom backed out he would take her place. GUILT! So, I'm preparing him food to eat while we're gone. That's almost like being with me.

We leave tomarrow! Wow! The plan is to leave from mom's house at 7 a.m. It should be a nine hour drive but I'm planning for a few breaks along the way.

We checked into the Best Western Plus across from Universal this afternoon. In the morning we will check into the Hard Rock. I have to say, this Best Western is very nice. If it weren't for the perks of staying on-site, I would be content here. Lots of shops and restaurants are in the vicinity. Beds are very comfortable.

have a great time on vacation !!

don't feel guilty leaving your spouse at home.
i do that each trip i make to orlando.

it's the only time i can eat ice cream for breakfast and not get a lecture from someone...........:rolleyes1

Did I say I was content at the Best Western? Hard Rock Hotel blows it out of the water! It's fantastic here. I have stayed at Royal Pacific before, and thought I liked it. From the time I pulled up, the treatment was royal. I've seen others say that but it's true, and not in that icky fake way.
I'm sad that I'm checking out today, going to Disney's Boardwalk Villas.

Here's the story on my fantastic day. We woke up at Best Western, had the complimentary breakfast, which was very nice including eggs, turkey sausage, biscuit and gravy. Murl, my son, got the bell cart. We loaded all our stuff and drove across the street to HRH.

We pulled in and Biggs loaded our bags for us and called bell services to take it to our room. He had great conversation with us during this. That doesn't seem unusual, but it is. I've stayed at Gaylord Opryland in Nashville and other nice places. People tend to be polite, they don't just stand there talking to you. Biggs wasn't the exception. Everyone we encountered was wonderful.

So, our room was ready already. We have an excellent view of the pool from the 5th floor. Mom and I belted on our fanny packs and walked straight to IOA to experience Harry Potter. There was a 40 minute wait by 9:30. This place fills up as the day progresses. We're planning to get over there during early entry this morning to experience this area without so many others. Mother loved it. She and Murl have read the books. I watched the movies. She got on Dueling Dragons with us. The only ride she refused during the day was the Rip Ride Rocket. Yes, we were all over the place. We did Universal yesterday evening.

We did all the wet water rides, one after the other, rode the Hulk, then took the water taxi back to the hotel. I made sandwiches in the room. We swam in the pool til 4:00.

The pool is shallow, has a nice slide, and if you put your head under there is music playing. There was a fellow singing while playing a guitar. Very relaxing.

We walked back to Citywalk and ate at Bubba Gumps before visiting Universal. Mom was chosen for the grandma bit in the Disaster ride. Cute! She hasn't been to Universal before. She went to Disney with one of my sisters 12 years ago. Make a Wish paid for that. My niece had a blood disease when she was 5. She's fine now.

We watched the Cinematic Spectacular from a table behind the Simpson's area. I was underwhelmed. Saw it once, won't stay to see it again. People crowded us too. There are many viewing areas around the lagoon. Does your child have to stand on my table to see?! How many children fit on my table? Enough to annoy me.

That was day 1. I'll add pictures when I get home.

Awesome post! We just got back from the HRH and echo your experiences with the staff, they were very genuine and everyone took the time to talk which is very unusual these days. You rocked on all those rides in such a short time, great planning!

Day 2 was Tuesday and significantly less crowded. The plan was to pack up the room, call bell services to store the luggage, and get to IOA for early opening. Best laid plans. My mom and Murl aren't moving so fast. By 8:30 we are leaving the hotel, get as far as the swimming pool and Mother can't find her stomach medicine in her fanny pack. Back into the Hard Rock store to purchase more. Mom also calls me the marching queen. So, I try to really slow it down.

Murl wants to ride the Hulk as we enter the park. We both ride with him. We make it over to Harry Potter area by 9:30. Crowds are half of what they were on Monday. Mom rides Dueling Dragons with us after Harry Potter. Then we eat at Three Broomsticks. They had the American breakfast and I the English. They talked us into buying the dining card for $20 each. We received two beverages with our breakfasts and had another snack and beverage each. These credits never expire. You could share meals too. I can't tell if I saved money or not with it. We ate up all our credit on it.

I'm at the Disney Boardwalk Villas now doing laundry while mom and Murl are still sleeping. The plan today is to go to Typhoon Lagoon if the rain holds off.

Back to the trip report.

We explored the Dr. Suess area. It's a cute area.

We moved on to Universal. Murl rode the Rocket ride by himself. Simpson's were next. This area is as crowded as Harry Potter. I didn't get many pictures here. Murl was tired of posing.

After riding a few more rides, we exited the park. Murl waited for us under the Universal globe while we retrieved our purchases from IOA. When you purchase something in the park it can be sent to the front for later pickup. Fyi, most items can be purchased at this front store, wands, chocolate frogs, etc.

We walked back to HRH, retrieved our luggage, and headed to Publix before driving to Boardwalk Villas. Mother told the cashier I was the marching queen.

Did I mention that they are both still sleeping riight now while I'm sitting on the patio drinking coffee? I'm really trying to be laid back.
