BRAND NEW AP’S! Got them in October only weeks before they turned off new sales - whew!

Arrival: Sun Dec 5

Late afternoon Southwest flights, BDL to MCO. Remember the days when flights weren’t full? Gosh I miss that! Didn’t see any empty seats. Years ago my family could spread out over two aisles comfortably without needing to share with strangers. Now we do me with the kids and hubby sits separate. Flight was smooth, kids were great, listened to podcasts the whole way down - no complaints 😃

Mask compliance was actually much better than what we saw in previous trips. MCO felt very empty when we landed ~7pm. I rebooked our Alamo rental about two weeks ago and got the price from over $700 for a standard to just over $500 for a “compact SUV”. I picked the SUV which was $10 more then the standard thinking it would be a bit roomier for my tall hubby. Gosh I was WRONG. The skip the counter as always was a breeze, but the trunk space is really tight for our luggage and the car feels slimmer than what we usually get. Lesson learned!

Used Publix curbside on our way to OKW - a breeze but for space! My big kid had to hold a bag of groceries lol. While picking up I placed a mobile order for Olivia’s to go since I wasn’t sure how long the regular QS would be… last time we came it took forever!

Was in our hotel room at 8:13. Not too bad, just over an hour with a Publix stop from walking off the plan into our room. We were in the window for food pickup so hubby immediately walked over to Olivia’s to grab our dinner while the kids and I unpacked. They were SO EXCITED!!! We haven’t stayed in a one bedroom for a couple trips and gosh it was like Christmas morning for them. In fact they were so excited that at 8:30 my door knocked - thinking it was hubby who maybe forgot his magic band or something I sent the kids to open and “help dad” while I ran around like crazy unpacking. It was SO LATE for my kiddos! They hasn’t eaten since a snack around 3. Past their bedtimes in fact. And I heard the words no one ever wants to hear “mom there’s someone here who wants to talk to you”.

It was the neighbor next door coming by to tell us we were being very loud, and it was late. Her bedroom was next to our living room and she wanted to make sure we knew “we can hear everything.”

I was MORTIFIED. And exhausted. Travel day always feels so damn long, I myself hadn’t eaten all day. So I told her the truth - I’m sorry. We just got in, they are pretty excited. They haven’t even eaten dinner yet. I told her I’d offer to call the front desk to move us since we were bothering her.

I have to say it was just a very strange…a very NOT magical welcome home. she wasn’t mean. She was just honest. I don’t know what she expected frankly, the kids felt TERRIBLE. I was equal parts embarrassed and annoyed. I mean it wasn’t even 9pm. They weren’t fighting or anything, they were happily giggling around the room. She told me they were heading out to the bar so no I didn’t need to call.. they just want me to know we are loud … I just don’t get it. If they weren’t even going to be home why complain. Whatever their deal, they accomplished what they wanted I guess, kids bubbles were burst. I’ve never had anyone complain about us before, at least not that I know of. I’ve heard lots of stuff myself and never complained… I just don’t know. It was weird. BUT MOVING ON….

Dad didn’t get back till almost 9! He said the food took a very long time. We ordered two kids fish meals and 2 chicken meals. One kid loved the Salmon, other just liked the beans and didn’t eat much. Adults really liked the chicken!

also ordered the key like pie tart and the bread pudding bc it’s vacation!!!!! But … they forgot to give hubs the dessert…

after lots of convincing Dad went back to Olivia’s and the desserts were there waiting for him, CM knew they had forgotten.

The key lime tart was meh. My key lime pie is way better! I was too full to try the bread pudding until the next day, heated up in the microwave for a snack… it was DELICIOUS! We could have split one meal instead of getting two adult meals… noted for the future. I like having leftovers to snack on during the week anyways so no harm done.

Quick to bed, everyone was exhausted! On to day 2… tho really the REAL day 1.

Day 2: WE HAVE AP’S!! Hollywood studios or bust

Alarm was set for 7:15 with hopes we could be in the car and on our way to HS BY 8am for 8:30 early entry. At some point during the evening our Elves arrived and the kids were very surprised to see them here at WDW!

Side note: the in room joffreys was TERRIBLE. What are we doing wrong? Coffee flavored water! We drink Joffreys at home so I’m thinking it’s the user and not the coffee. Is there a trick to these drip machines? At home we use a French press.

Was through security extremely fast (did you know you’re supposed to take out glasses cases and hold them? It’s a new thing since we came in June!). We were at the turnstiles at 8:35. Later then I had hoped but not by much. And 100% my fault bc I took forever packing the backpack

and we scanned blue. And blue. And blue. I had completely forgotten we needed to activate the passes!!!! BAH!!!!!!! Huge line at guest relations. A kind CM named Rachel took care of us but we didn’t wrap until 9. Was literally walking through the stiles at 9:02. The kids got a huge kick out of getting scanned purple. I got purple AND pink which made me very, very happy to see those silly lights. We are AP we are AP! Never in my life did I dream we would be some day! oh back to Rachel, I was asking for strategies on how to ride Slinky since last two trips it was never below 90 minutes and we didn’t ride (true story). She said - I got this and gave us LL to experience it any time that day. I wasn’t complaining or anything, she just was extra nice and said that we missed all our early entry period waiting to get our passes activated so she felt it made sense. In hindsight I think she was right

Pretty much RAN to smugglers run. First time we’ve been put in with another party, it actually made the ride significantly more fun to have all the “parts” occupied! Was in and out in about 30 minutes. Park was already getting crowded so we figured let’s just go to alien swirling saucers. It’s not a hot ride it shouldn’t be too bad. Posted at 35 - it’s 9:30am no way can that be right. It sure was.

While we were in line we realized today was gonna be a CROWDED day, so let’s look at lunch options NOW. Earliest woodys was 11:50-12:20 so we took it. What took place next was several hours of debating and app reading … lots of general frustration.

Gosh it was just so darn crowded EVERYWHERE. Started heading to TSM but the line was already an hour and the kids were super annoyed for having to wait so long for Aliens (35 minutes). Yes I realize it’s not THAT long, but for our family with our previous first hand experiences… for THAT ride… 35 minutes was long. I can’t tell you how many times we’ve done it in 15 or less. Plus it was crowded. Plus it was getting hot for these new Englanders. So I pulled out the one thing I know turns everyone’s frowns upside down. MICKEY BARS!!!!!!!!!

Enjoyed while we walked over to Muppet Vision which is always a treat. We are all big muppet fans, and I love that it hasn’t changed since I was their age.

DD wanted to do some shopping (window shopping and snacks are her favorite) and sadly the two stores over by pizzarizzo are still closed. But it was fun being back there since it’s been awhile. What now?! At this point ALL lines were over an hour, but we weren’t ready to use SDD yet. So we walked back through GE to browse through the shops which was on dad’s list of to-do’s while we waited for a ronto wrap. By the time we were done, there were no seats anywhere even on the first floor near the market. Crowds crowds crowds. It was 11:45 so the woodys lunchbox window opened up and we could head that way to get the kids food.

The seating at woodys was a mad house. 3 times I was waiting for tables and got “cut” bc we three were just too slow moving to get into the seats. I finally asked a couple if they wouldn’t mind waving me over when they were ready and they happily obliged. While we were sitting I caught eye of an elderly couple having a hard time getting seats too, so I did the very un-Connecticut thing and invited them to join us lol. My kids were complete zombies at this point. Even after the food was “ready” it still took almost 20 minutes to actually pick up the food. Crowds.

Kids got two turkey sandwiches which us parents had to finish. Neither really liked the meal - unfortunate, but their moods improved with food (and not sugar) in their bellies so it worked. It was now nearly 1 and we decided to call it quits and head back to the room to rest and hopefully wait out the crowds. So from technically 9am to 1, we rose Smugglers Run, Aliens swirling saucers, and muppets. 4 hours for THREE rides - only really one of which should have a wait. Is this life now after genie + or are crowds just not typical today? We don’t know what’s going on, but having been to HS MANY times since GE has opened, we were pretty unhappy. But still unwilling to spend more to upgrade. When you spend 2 grand on tickets on a middle class income you (I) can get stingy in other ways I guess 😒

Back to the hotel, two of us napped! Ate some snacks and then back to HS - I want to say it was around 4:30? 5? The sun was starting to set and it was really lovely weather. DS wanted to ride ToT with me (MY FAV!) so we headed down sunset with DD planning on doing some shopping with dad (not a ToT fan). By the time we got back to the tower my son was hungry, annoyed with crowds, and nervous to ride. All in a matter of about 15 minutes. Oh probably should have mentioned…

this is his first trip without a stroller (gasp!)

I debated getting a single - we usually get a double. But with the AP and knowing we are here for a whole week, I decided let’s just take it slow and not bother with a stroller. Let’s see if I eventually give in…

I personally was a little disappointed he decided not to ride ToT since I love that it’s something special we can share just us. But we’ll probably be back at HS later this week - we’ll see if he’s in the right mood for it another time.

Since we were back there anyways we stopped in to the beauty and the best show, caught the tail end of it. Heading back down sunset blvd to find popcorn and figure out next steps … but it was challenging since … can you guess?
Crowded.

BAH. HUMBUG.

Got DS popcorn and headed over to TSM for a 45 minute wait 😫. Posted 45, actual 45. But it was fun! Next SDD to use gifted LL. The sun at that point was set! We had never ridden SDD (as far as I can remember) at night so that was a treat! DD was actually nervous even tho she’s ridden many times - but it’s been a couple years! She had a blast and it boosted her confidence which I love.

At this point it was now 6:50 (already!) and we were tired even tho we took a midday break. It’s past dinner time. But we figured humph. Might as well wait for MMRR since we are here anyways . We all love that ride so much! Posted 60 and it took exactly 60 to ride. While in line I took the last time slot at ABC which is 7:55-8. We were debating about whether it would ACTUALLY take 1 hour to get through RR and I’m glad we stuck with what was posted since it was right on.

Kids split an Adult chix sandwich and adults split the pork tacos. I’d highly recommend the tacos! Oh that reminds me - The ronto wrap was very disappointing. We’ve eaten there before and loved it!

Against my better judgement I bought the bell sipper - such a splurge! BUT OMG I LOVE IT and I can’t wait to use it as a Christmas decoration when we get home. No regrets! It even lights up! Also got the special chocolate dessert to share and ALL of us liked it!

I still can’t believe I was feeding my kids dinner at 8pm - but the weather was just gorgeous and nothing beats the parks at night! They are champs!

After dinner we took our time exiting and snapped some photos of the decorations. It was really a nice night.

Summary thoughts: Splitting meals works. Gosh it’s so damn crowded. Not sure if it’s simply crowd levels or damn Genie +, but I’m not thrilled with how long everything has been taking. Overall though it was a good day!

Next Up: Steakhouse 71 breakfast and early morning hours at a sold out MK park. WHYYYYYYYY 😫😫😫😫. Wish us luck!

Sounds like it's crowded but you are making the best of it. That lady who complained the first night was odd since she was actually leaving. If it had been later and she was trying to sleep, I could see her maybe saying something. I have kids similar in age and they can get loud even if it's happy loud. :earboy2:

Anyway, since she was "going to the bar" you would have been the ones sleeping before her!!

Your interaction with your neighbor was odd. If I was heading to the bar why would I complain about the noise?? I hope you both have peace the rest of the trip.

Those crowds are heavy but glad you guys are pushing through and making the best of it. I hope the crowds ease up a bit the rest of the week.

Day 3: Tuesday weeeeeeeee

I slept terribly and was up before my 6:30 alarm. Not sure what was going on… maybe the late night lemonade at dinner? The excitement of being home? Who knows.

Breakfast resies at 7:45 @ Steakhouse 71. We had no problem at the gate (they didn’t even ask to see our resie) when we pulled in at 7:20. Checked in while walking to the lobby and was seated at 7:40.

The kids got Mickey waffles with one extra set on the side

628732

Dad had the Walt’s Prime Rib Hash

628735

I had the Floridian Benedict

628736

Unpopular opinion time: we loved the Wave and were so happy all the reports are that SH71 are just as good if not better. I’ve had the Floridian Benedict multiple times and it’s always outstanding. This one was meh. The crab cake was good, wedges ok, the eggs and sauce was very bland. Disappointing. Not BAD therefore I didn’t say anything. But just not as good as I recall. I also ordered a cold brew Joffrey’s bc it’s my favorite! And … it tasted over seeped.

Dad and I split our meals. I felt his was just OK too. More flavorful for sure, but the steak was really tough. I think it must be challenging to keep it tender when they cut it into such small pieces. Dad felt the same as I - it was just OK. Maybe it was just too early in the morning. Our server was very good though and I’d be willing to give it one more shot. The kid’s meals were cooked to perfection.

EE opened at 8:30 this AM. We were walking out of the contemporary and to MK via the walkway at exactly 8:29. A little later then I had hoped BUT o don’t think they could have served us any faster with a 7:45 resie. With the kids it took 9 minutes door to turnstiles, there was no wait at all!

It was a chilly morning and quite foggy, but Main Street USA STILL managed to choke me up with all its holiday decorations. I know people complain about the castle now but I think she’s stunning. We were walking as fast as possible with little legs so I didn’t stop to get a photo, so this is my quick shot

628737

It was exactly 8:45 when we passed through the EE and the line to SDMT was back towards BARNSTORMER. Here’s on the boards I read it loves fast, so I took the kids for a potty break by Cheshire Cat while dad stayed in line and by the time we were done he was by stroller parking. CROOWWDDDDDSSSSSS

I timed the line and it was almost exactly 40 minutes. The kids are finally old enough to sit together separately which is nice. I need to hunt down their ride photos with photo pass… but here we are in the front row of the cart! It’s a special treat to ride adults only - it’s like a mini date

628738

we have tickets to the Christmas Party later this week so other then SDMT we didn’t have any must dos, thinking we’ll get to do quite a bit Thursday

After SDMT we let the kids make all the decisions since we knew we would be tired early. They picked HM and BTM

Their impression of “spooky”

628744

Wait times were 35 minutes and 30 - they were spot on. It didn’t feel as crowded as HS overall, and the waits as you can see weren’t terrible. But I had hoped to get more done. Quick snack of course (bc my kids eat all day) and then we headed back to main street to check scope out the emporium before we left

ALMOST got a decent family pick. Sigh so close (wish the stroller had been timed diff)

628745

My son was complaining about his feet hurting so we took the monorail back to the contemporary. It probably only saved .5 mile or less of walking but it made him happy = worth it.

I found the navy Celebration hoodie at the emporium in my size which was VERY EXCITING! I have been looking for it for weeks! Christmas merch is lacking though. I was looking for tea towels and a countdown… the emporium had neither. That really surprised me.

we were back at the hotel by 12:40. My hubbys parents were visiting this afternoon for a bit so we just went to the pool (fun!) and grabbed food there. We are now back in our room and debating on what to do next. Might be an early night in! We have Epcot in the am so I’m tempted to makemy family go somewhere since we can sleep in for once. While I was over at the pool I stopped at the store and there was a TON of dvc merch I’ve not seen yet floating around on IG. But again - virtually no holiday stuff. Bah humbug!

Tuesday summary: Steakhouse 71 had a crummy morning. MK was fun, but not as fun as I have found it in the past. Waits Not as bad as HS, but I even heard CMs commenting on how genie + is making everything take longer for us little people. My salad at the main OKW pool was quite tasty AND reasonably priced (I think $13?) and the pool felt very comfortable despite high 70s weather. Starting to wonder if my APs will be regretted. We are having fun… but it feels different. I can’t even quite put my finger on what it is.

oh well right? I hope she had a good night!!!! I don’t even remember what she looked like which is good I think. Let it slide!

I’m hoping the rest of the week slows down too. I didn’t think this week was supposed to be exceptionally busy

Following , we'll be at OKW next week!!

Your neighbor sounds weird, but at least you didn't let it dampen your spirits! Glad to see you are making the most of it with all the crowds!

I’m excited for you! The weather has been really nice so far! One thing that hopefully changes by the time you arrive - the holiday merch is very scant. No special ornaments even at the store here - the CM told me they got a handful a couple months ago but they sold out right away and it’s expected the rest will arrive…. Drum roll please.., in JANUARY. We stopped at the Christmas store in DS last night and even there was VERY scant. The only resort ornament they had was for French quarter, and the walls usually decked out with endless options basically had the same 8–10 ornaments. They just spread them out to make it look more full. It’s nuts!

Wow, that's honestly pretty surprising!! We have been at Christmas two times before, the last time was 2018 for the same week. We definitely were able to get a lot of Christmas merch and we were staying at Wilderness Lodge. I will definitely make sure to grab something I like as soon as I see it then!

Coming back to this trip report! It’s been a couple weeks but I’m still thinking about this trip and figuring out how to make the next even better… but back to Tuesday night…

Of course we couldn’t find any reservations for a table service meal at Disney springs so last minute - but I wanted to hit a couple stores and there are plenty of walk up options so we headed over around 5ish. The boats were running YAY so it was an easy trip.
I don’t think we have ever been to Disney springs during the holidays! I had a laundry list of “I hope I get to do’s”:
- gideons
- WOD to find something Christmas for my family and a Hanukkah gift for a friend
- the Christmas shop to find the above plus ornaments (we pick them out every year)
- ganachary for an Olaf chocolate bomb (to hide from Santa)
- trendD bc I need a new wallet and small crossbody bag
- Christmas tree stroll!
- milkshakes for kids/dad from Ghirardelli
- dinner of course
- possible pins (also something we all get every trip)

First stop was Gideons knowing there would be a wait, they said it would be 2.5 hours. I’ve done virtual queues for it before, last time is said 2 and it was really 90 minutes, so although I wasn’t sure we’d make it almost 3 hours I said yes - sign me up and got my confirmations text we were in queue. Decided to go to Blaze and found a patio spot. We got three personal pizzas - 2 cheese for the kids bc they were cranky and not in sharing moods, and one for us grown ups. For my family of four, three pizzas was the PERFECT amount and my pizza was delicious!

After that we wondered - I decided to hold off getting Olaf until my gideons slot was called, might be easier to hide and they are near each other.
I got no solid hits at WOD on Christmas stuff, they only had ONE (meaning one left) $75 blanket for Hanukkah- literally the only item for Hanukkah in store. Yea I realize it was over by that point, but only barely! The only ornaments at the Christmas Shoppe were princesses and French quarter. No exaggeration - nothing else. Just walls and walls of the same 6-7 princess ornaments. We managed to kill a lot of time though, really enjoyed the trees we saw (only a few) and the random scattering of holiday characters. At one point while we were eating a bunch of snoap appeared and I still can’t for the life of me figure out where from!

At the 3 hour mark I still hadn’t been called to Gideons and we were all the way by Basin, so We gave up and called it quits for the night. The other three did get those milkshakes and loved them!!!! I didn’t even get a sip 🤣. Instead I spent all my money at basin (my FAVORITE) while they enjoyed. My daughter was quite disappointed bc we couldn’t find a best friends necklace to bring home. Even just a couple years ago there were always many options! The merch really is/was lacking. Thank you port crisis….

Off to bed at a reasonable time with full bellies and happy hearts! It was a good day.

Following :surfweb: Crowds:confused3 We're taking our family including 3 first timers in March. Hope the crowds have settled down. But, it sounds like you're making the best of it!

We were there around the same time. Arrived on 11/28 and left on 12/07 to come home. I can't remember the week after Thanksgiving being so crowded in the past. It used to be one of the least crowded weeks of the year. But this year it was crazy in every park and at DS. I guess people just needed to go somewhere after being almost locked up for a year and one/half. We only averaged about 3 rides per park day, but to be fair we didn't ever get an early start either.

Then there's all of the changes! Like you said, it's hard to put your finger on it, but our experience really felt different from our past trips. Even the one we took in 1/2020. Everybody we talked to was complaining about Genie + and having to pay for the LL, which I refuse to do. Not sure I'll be using my DVC points for WDW in the near future. Probably try someplace else in the world, but with COVID traveling is so frustrating. Hope the rest of your trip works out better for you. Your kids are really cute, especially when they do those poses.
