Let's see what this family does flying solo - the POST trip report!

I keep meaning to tell you. Although we are from Chicago and MOST of our family is die hard Chicago Bears fans, our youngest son, is a diehard Brett Favre fan and hence went from being a Green Bay Packers fan to a Minnesota Vikings fan (we threatened him if he rooted for the New York Jets). It is obvious he was dropped on his head at some point, but thought you'd appreciate that you have a Chicagoan who will continue to cheer for your Vikings. :)

That's funny, because I HATED Brett Favre before he signed with the Vikings, and was very upset when they did sign him. I guess that's why I'm not an NFL coach :)

See, I've also appreciated and enjoyed watching Brett play. I would cheer for the Bears when they played the Packers (or Vikings), but any other time I rooted for him...he just LOVES the sport which is a lot more than a lot of the overpaid prima donnas that play football. :)

Understanding the predictability of the cosmos, Jon presumed the sun rose as usual on the morning of Saturday, May 1st. This faith in science was all he had to rely on, though, since on that morning, in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, the sun's usual radience was all but suppressed by thick, black rainclouds. A dreary fog hung thick over the central lake at the usually beautiful Coronado Springs Resort. An unseasonal chill bit at the his family's exposed skin, a sort of damp chill that seemed to weigh down their every step.

Okay. I dare you to write your entire report in this style next time. :rotfl:

Enjoying your report greatly! I know you have half of the DIS encouraging you to DRAG it out, but hurry up and finish so I can read the end before we leave!

I also have always loved Brett Farve - much to Jon's dismay when he was on the Packers!! When you watch him play, you can tell he just loves the game!! I really hope he comes back for another year. Jon said if he does, and they win the Superbowl, that we can go down for the parade in Magic Kingdom!! (No he didn't, but let's see what he says to that!!)

SMART GAL! :goodvibes

I think I like dumbo pictures better than any other pictures in the park. The picture of Kristin and Emily is priceless.

Back in the day when I used to get to rope drop and the opening show (that never happens anymore- LOL), I used to get so choked up as I walked down main street and saw the castle. So I used the sun glass trick to my advantage, too. I used to wonder if I was the only person who got tears in m eyes and a lump in my throat. Ah Magic!

I just finished bottling our homebrewed American IPA, and what better way to cap it off than with a Disboards Trip Report update? Ok, I can probably think of many better ways to cap it off, but here we are anyway. So try to enjoy it, ok? Thanks.

We left our heroes standing at the gates to Toontown, with the educated few who know that this is the only way to see the Fairies and/or Princesses in this park without waiting forever. Dylan and I skipped this last year and rode the Tomorrowland Indy Speedway, with me channeling Johnny Brennan by yelling "Cut 'er down, Mike! Watch his legs!" as Dylan flew around the track with reckless abandon. This year, we're providing moral support for the girls, and we'll soon find out that this gig is not for the squeamish.

You can see the park guests jockeying for position already. Everyone wants to be the first ones in, since it could mean the difference between waiting 5 minutes and waiting 7 minutes to meet Tinkerbell. This is huge, folks. A family arrives mere minutes before the rope drop, and we're quick to pull our blocks to the left to keep them away from the quarterback. A woman walks through the crowd to meet her family, stepping on the foot of another woman behind us. No apologies, no acknowledgement...you know, there's one thing about being crowd-aggressive, lapping the slowpokes, and getting where you need to go in the most efficient way possible, but if it comes at the expense of common courtesy, it's just not worth it. Call me old fashioned, I guess.

The rope finally falls and in we go. The foot stepper cuts me off and gets a stroller to the ankle. No apologies here, but not because I refuse to offer any; she actually never looked back at me. We get our revenge again as Kristin accidentally goes the wrong way to the stroller parking, and we get in near the front anyway. Game, point, match! Wait that extra minute, jerk!

We're actually about 5th or 6th in line for the Fairies, but we're (somewhat) reasonable and (vaguely) patient, so it's no big deal. Our turn comes, and we are shrunk to the size of Fairies and led into Pixie Hollow. This area is pretty cool looking, as far as preschool girly stuff goes. Our first Fairy meet is with the one who wears orange, whose name I admittedly don't know and am too lazy at this juncture to look up. She was really cool, though, and interacted very well with both kids.

If a Fairy can make Dylan smile, it's a victory. Up next was Tink herself. I have a friend who dislikes Disney mostly because Tink was nasty in the book, trying to murder Wendy, and now "frolics with her Fairy friends". I told her that everyone deserves a second chance, and that Tink actually was pretty rough in the original Peter Pan movie as well. She should know better than to knock Disney around me! We got some great pics with the 'Bell.

That picture of Emily was selected from a collection of about 75 that Kristin trimmed, rotated, and added borders to via the Photo Pass web app. Weeding through these pictures is my #1 obstacle to getting more TR updates out, folks. They do make for great pictures, though, so I shouldn't complain too much.

Up next, it's over to the male Fairy. Sorry, I don't HIS name, either. I saw the first Tinkerbell movie (once), but never the second. I know, I know...and I call myself a Disney fan. I call the male cow "Male Clarabell", too, so what do you expect from me? Great pictures again. Apparently, digging's his thing.

Though he will pause to sign an autograph for the ladies, if need be.

After all of this Fairy business, Kristin and the kids get in line for the Princesses, while I am tasked with the important mission of obtaining Space Mountain Fast Passes. I walk down the "secret walkway" to Tomorrowland, and actually pass no one. It's amazing that more people don't know about or take advantage of this. A CM on the passing train waves to me...man, I love Disney World. At Universal, they would've thrown trash at me. I grab an artiste shot of SM before getting the FPs:

It looks overcast in this shot, though it really wasn't. Actually, it was really muggy that day, and was on of the first day it cracked the nineties on this trip. Being a northerner who can't stand cold, it was a welcome change...for now. More on that later. I get the FPs and contemplate riding Buzz solo, but think better of the idea and head back to Toontown instead. I try to take a picture of the People Mover on the way, with debatable results.

I meet up with the family in TT, and we decide to milk this area one last time for this trip, and possibly forever. More in the next post!

Jon said if he does, and they win the Superbowl, that we can go down for the parade in Magic Kingdom!! (No he didn't, but let's see what he says to that!!)

I DID say that, Kristin, even if it's just me going. Seeing a Viking wearing a Super Bowl ring while riding down Main Street with Mickey would truly be an "ok, the meteor can hit NOW" moment for me. I would most likely pass out.

An interesting fact about Kristin is that she LOVED Peyton Manning until he won the Super Bowl and turned down the Disney commercial. She's hated him ever since :)

MouseEarsJenny: I would try to wrap this up quickly, just for you, but you're a Packers fan, so sorry, no deal. I will write my next trip report as an epic poem, however.

This is the point of the night where I sit here waiting for Kristin, who's been secretly following along on her iPod upstairs, to come running down to tell me everything I screwed up in the last post. Waiting...

Waiting...

Ok, coast is clear. Now where were we? Oh yeah, ToonTown. While I was gone, Kristin got some great shots of the kids with the Princesses:

Who knows what Dylan is talking to them about, but it's probably hilarious. The next photos are a perfect example of why we wait in line for all of this:

You can tell how giddy she is. She just lives for this stuff, and we do, too. She actually made a comment to Kristin a few months back about how she knows that these are just "girls dressed as Princesses", but hasn't said anything since, so either she believe's they're the real deal or simply doesn't care. Yes, she's definitely our daughter!

Afterwards, we rode the Barnstormer, which is a colossal waste of time if there's any sort of a line, but it's fun if you can get on it relatively quickly. Super short ride (under a minute, I believe), but fun in that limited time and a great warm up for Emily, who will be tall enough for Expedition: Everest next year. They're fairly similar, right?

Kristin went who knows where next while I took the kids to Donald's Boat. There's actually water this year, so it must not be as dry as it was last year around this time. Dylan gets soaked, as is expected, but Emily stays back. We grab some outside shots.

To this day, Dylan remembers clunking his head on Mickey's mailbox on our first trip here, when he was four. Who says kids don't remember any of this when they come here that young?

Now that I've said that, that leads me into another rant. Why do people refuse to bring their kids here when they're small because "they won't remember it"? Won't YOU remember it? Emily was actually a terrible baby until we brought her here, and her second night at Riverside was her best night sleeping up to that point in her life. We sat her on a chair by the pool and she LOVED it. She completely devoured It's a Small World. At age one, she woke up in her stroller just as we passed by IASW, so a normally difficult situation was defused by dancing, singing dolls in ethnic garb. Sure, maybe she forgets all of that, but we never will. So, I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but bring your kids here ASAP, no matter how small! This is the year to do it! Oh, then come here every year after, too!

Ok, back to ToonTown. We went inside and got what may be our last look at Mickey's house :(

IMG_2596.jpg

Back outside, where we got some more shots before entering Minnie's house.

I always get a kick out of the decorations in this one. The bulletin board. The fridge full of cheese. All classics. I can't believe it's all going away.

Ok, I think we've basically done all of what there is to do in ToonTown. It's time to say goodbye as we move on. It's lunch at Cosmic Rays again, and then back to Fantasyland...but that's a story for another day. I have to get some sleep!

Jon, you crack me up! :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Great updates. They never had the fairies or the princesses when our boys were young, but I love those photos with Emily and Dylan--they are great. I am soooooooo going to miss Mickey's house and all of that...such fond memories of that time when our boys were little.

I agree with you...take the kids at whatever age. We took both of our boys when they were just 18 months and both of them remember some little tidbit from the trip (Andy, our 24 year old, remembers walking off with Mickey and sitting on a bench when Minnie came over and started tickling him and kissing him; and Markie, our 22 year old, remembers being scared to death of Goofy the first time he saw him at a character meal; but then we went to a show where the characters came around after singing and performing and Minnie Mouse kissed his forehead and he was forever in love).

I remember taking my kids to ToonTown once when they were small and thought it was such a great spot for kids - what are they replacing it with?

The Tink dress Emily is wearing is VERY cute, Kristin!

I can't wait to meet their fairies when I'm there. I don't care if I have to line up for an hour (though....my DBF might mind.....). I've wanted to go ever since they announced that the fairies will be there!

Secret passage....? I don't think I know of this....Enlighten me please.

The orange fairy is Fawn. I really like her. In fact, I think the only fairy I'm not crazy about is the water fairy, Silvermist

ToonTown will be replaced with the gigantic Fantasyland expansion. It's bittersweet, since I do like ToonTown, but the new additions should be amazing.

The "secret path" runs from ToonTown to Tomorrowland. Walk towards the TT train station and hang a right, and you'll end up entering TL from behind Space Mountain. You can see it when riding the train from TT to TL. It's very lightly traveled, though there are signs on the lightposts indicating where it leads.

Inside the theater, and we wait. Finally, it gets dark enough to start, out comes the star, and we're on. Pretty cool show - the water effects are really neat, and the giant dragon and snake are really cool. Mickey kicking **** was great, too ("Hey, Dylan - it's ON"), and I always like when they tie in multiple movies and characters into one show (e.g., Philharmagic). HOWEVER...I don't know if it was enough to make it worth enduring the spike in attendance on the days it shows. I can see it every other year and be find. Truth be told, I might have enjoyed VotLM more than this.

Dylan is also a bit disappointed, because I think he was expecting an epic battle between Mickey and all of the villains, and he really just took down the dragon, quite easily to boot. I guess I can agree to some extent, though I didn't quite expect as much action as he was hoping for.

NOW...I remember a post last year from someone who suggested that the show by done to the music of Iron Maiden. I think just about everyone thought the poster was nuts, but man, I'd MOVE to Hollywood Studios if that happened. I'd live inside the hat. I'm serious. Merging Disney and Iron Maiden to me would be like mixing peanut butter and chocolate. I would probably pass out.

Back to reality. We didn't get the best pics, but we got this one, at least.

IMG_2211.jpg

After the show, we hurried out of the ampitheater, and Dylan and Kristin rushed over to ToT. Emily and I agreed to meet them in the gift shop, which was easier said than done. We stood by the wall across from the gift shop as the masses poured out of Fantasmic, waiting patiently. Emily asked how we were ever going to get across. I parked the stroller, picked her up, and said "watch this", before walking directly against the grain of the thousands coming down the street. Our job as parents is to teach our kids lessons that will help them in life, and today, I taught my daughter that if you just walk with a demeanor that says "I'm not stopping", people will move for you. Hopefully she will remember this when she brings her kids to WDW.

Inside the ToT gift shop, where I find an awesome book about Nightmare Before Christmas. Emily again plays Cast Member as she arranges the "Hollywood Hotel" shampoos and candles. It's taking Dylan and Kristin forever to come out - hey, it's the Mexican cheerleaders we saw on the Magical Express! And they're in full cheerleader garb, unlike their less-dedicated American counterparts, who wear street clothes. Now THAT'S cheerleading!

Dylan and Kristin finally come down, and Dyl says ToT at night is an absolute must-ride. We still have two FPs from earlier, but we opt instead to call it a night, but not until after blowing some more cash on random Disney merch that I can't recall right now.

That's it for HS. We have another half day planned for it next week, but do we really need to do anything else here? We missed the Muppets, but they'll be under refurb at that time. We saw Indy Jones, Beauty and the Beast, and the Backlot Tour in prior years and don't really NEED to see them this year. Kristin suggests a day of all pool, no park, which is like nails across a chalkboard to me. I don't even want to think about it. We agree that we'll play it by ear, but for now, it's off to the buses and back to CSR. Magic Kingdom tomorrow!

I just wanted to say that I started reading your TR and it is FANTASMIC, oh I mean FANTASTIC!! Anyway what really got me was the reference to Iron Maiden - can you picture the opening to Fantasmic with Enter the Sandman playing in the background? :thumbsup2 As a matter of fact, and not to hijack your report, but when I got married (2nd time is a charm) the entrance song I used for all our kids (who were our wedding party) for the reception was Enter the Sandman! I can still see my little girl who was 5 at the time walking in bopping her head like she was all that!!! Well keep up the good work and I now return YOU to YOUR regular programming! :lmao:

Wow, thanks! This kind of comment makes me want to post more!

Not to correct you, though, but Enter Sandman is by Metallica, not Maiden ;) Either way, awesome way to start the reception!
