Lets Here It For The Post Office!

Last week my friend moved to another state. So I sent her a Mother's Day card to her new address. I started to write out the address and noticed she didn't give me the zip code. I figured I would look it up online in the morning. Well the morning came and I grabbed her card along with the others that I was sending out. After I put it in the mail I remembered that I didn't look up the zip code ~ and couldn't remember if I had put the state on it. I spoke to her on the phone and told her what I did. Yesterday she called me and she got the card!!! I put her city and only 1 letter of the state!! (Grain Valley, M)and no zip code. Someone in the post office looked up her city in order to find her state and zip code!!

I know they don't look things up for you if forget to put the country on out of country mail.

Which leads me to wonder, why do postal employees often "go postal"? Every post office in our area has the NICEST employees ever. I haven't run into a grouchy one yet.

Our postmistress was so nice to me one time. I sent a card to a friend with the wrong house #. It was returned to the post office (I have a box). She called the town where the card was going to, got the correct address, and sent it back out for me. I didn't even have to pay for it.

She retired recently and we attended her retirement party. Never met a nicer lady.

My DH is one! I get so tired of hearing negative things about them, it's nice to hear some positive for a change. We have very friendly postal employees also--they certainly get a bad rap.

Wow that is really nice. Sorry but my stuff would be negative. Whenever we put our mail on hold during our disney vacation, they never redeliver it on the day I request, just happened again a few weeks ago. So sorry but needless to say I now no longer give the post man a christmas gift. I know this will happen again. They asked me did I want to file a complaint against him. I said no, what difference would it make. I still never get my mail when I request it. But I was the only person on my street who left out a bag of food for the food drive this past week end. Gee whiz, what is wrong with the people where I live now. They are so thoughtless of others.

Sorry LuvMaryPoppins. Sometimes routes get carried by someone else, sometimes quite regularly. If a different carrier is working the route, they can miss the cards sometimes, or if a route is split up between carriers, things like that can get forgotten. They are trying to cut down on personnel so much, that sometimes it's hard for the carriers to keep up with stuff.
Hopefully, it'll get better with time. Also, the day you get back, if you can call the p.o. early that morning (before 9:00) you should be able to 'remind' them.

My daughter had her wallet stolen and yesterday we got it back. Apparently it was tossed in a mailbox and the post office mailed it back to her.

Our local postal workers are very nice and efficient. I hear people being critical of the postal system, but they are really good around here

There are some wonderful postal workers out there. The counter workers at our post office are very dear people. However, the service in our area is horrible (it's really most of Florida).

Across the street from my post office is a school. I mailed a letter to the school. The letter was sent to the school's old official address, as they had just changed to a new address (school didn't move they just altered their address). The Post Office sent it as address unknown. Remember, it is exactly across the street.

My husband is a letter carrier and they really don't like the term "going postal". You will find more shootings at other places of business than you will at a post office.
