It is a straight ground rule for that field. If it goes in the ivy and the player doesn't go after it then it is an auto 2 base hit. They have to throw both hands up to signal they are not going for the ball.

And according to everything I'm reading now, the umps called that play properly. They don't have the discretion to change how many bases the runners get.

I haven't seen a run scored on the third strike rule in post season ANYWHERE/ANYBODY...not just the Cubbies.

The Mets played a great game last night. I was kind of shocked with how many pitchers the Cubs put in. Really made me feel like the manager had little confidence out there last night. I was also please that the Mets really know how to get around the bases and didn't need the homers to make the runs.

I would like to know what Murphey eats for breakfast. That guy is on fire! You can see the dollar signs going up every time he hits a homer. Hope the Mets can afford to keep him after all is said and done.

Until the Mets win another game, I'm going to be paranoid that there will be a repeat of 2004: a NY team leading a series 3-0 against a team that hasn't won a World Series in an extremely long time just for the 0-3 team to come back to win it. I know it's not likely, but still.
