Extremely Late Trip Report -
So lets introduce the cast
Me - peanut1967 - Only one previous visit to the World, and 1
visit to DP. The real Disney nut of the family, massive Tigger fan
when people ask why....because he makes me smile
DP (Dear Partner) - Grumpy/sleepy - 2 visits to DLP, but not
really got the Disney bug - more on this later
DS - 15 - my baby boy, over 6ft, and built like a brick wall,
wonderful with younger children (except his sister of course)
never gone through the wont give mum a cuddle fase
, spends money
like its going out of fashion, on himself. When we went in 1996 he was a
big Chip 'n' Dale fan.
DD - 11 - my baby boy, never stopped sucking her thumb after she
gave father christmas her pacifier when she was 3,
caring and stroppy all in one go a real mummys girl.
Saves her money and often ends up buying suprise gifts
for everyone. Suprised everyone on this trip by becomming a big
Disney Princess fan.
So you have met our small but wonderful family. Let me do the background check -
For as long as I can remeber I have been a Disney fan, just always wanted to go.
I never got to visit as a child and wanted to give the gift of Disney to my children.
In 1995 myself and my now ex husband decided the time was right. I was in charge of
booking the holiday and we decided that we would have 3 weeks at what was Dixie Landings.
So off I went and booked the holiday. That was it, no planning, no adr's, no reading
the brits guide, and no dis!
At that time my ds was 7 and my dd was 3. Took 6 visits to the magic kingdom to finish it.
I fell in love with Epcot...and Animal Kingdom did not exsist, although we saw the plans.
We had no touring plans, and on day 3 I sat at the table in our room and did a rough plan!
Fast forward.................................................
The 1996 trip was a band aid for our marriage, and we ended up split up August
1997 and divorced by Feb 1998.
By August 1999 I met DP, we managed a 2 night trip to Disney Land Paris without children
it was then he understood my Disney needs. The DP trip was just a fix, he needed to
understand this before he moved in with me and the kids, I didnt get him to sign in blood
but the threat was there! He 'stated' that WDW was a place he would like to visit....the plan
was to convert him, to make it not a place he would like to visit....but more of
lets say a life style, somehow without doing a blood transfusion I needed Disney to
run through his veins, maybe not on the scale that it ran through my blood but traces needed
to be found, this was a conversion trip, the trip that would not be DP's 1st and last, but
one of many. The plot was thickening!
DP liked Disney Land Paris, but every corner he would hear me comment how they wouldn't do
that in the 'World', if I said it once I said it a million times. The best thing was we
went in October so we caught the Hallowene fun - Just a side note here in 1996 when I went
for 3 weeks we actually caught Hallowene in WDW, and shock of horrors I wouldnt pay the extra
for MNSSHP, (kicking ones self now). Here is where I planted the WDW seed, and a agreement
was made.
After just over 2 years DP moved in with us and we officially became a family, we sold his
property and he moved in with us, with the money he made on his house he bought me a car
and we did the house up so it was 'ours'. So for the first few years we had no money, story
of my life, still dont understand why I have not won the lottery!
By 2003 I needed a big disney fix, and not DLP, I needed the real thing. It was agreed we
would be able to afford it for 2005, August. Well the planning in me got to grips, and somehow
with figures and lies I managed to convice DP that it would be cheaper for us to go xmas 2004
comming home in the new year 2005.
I hear the shout...CHEAPER AT XMAS..PEAK SEASON..HOWS THAT CHEAPER.
Well my disney buddies, listen carefully and feel the force and all will be revealed,
Me: wouldn't it be lovely to go to Disney at Xmas?
DP: Well maybe one day we could.
Me: I would love the kids to see disney at xmas. They wont be kids long.
DP: Well they would still enjoy it no matter how old they are.
Me: You know I had a thought.
DP: RIGHT! go on....I know you need to tell me
Me: Welllllllllllll, If you went at xmas instead of August it would actually work out a lot
cheaper,(eye rolling by DP), no really, just listen. The kids presents would be the trip,
we could give them £50 each on xmas day with some little openers. We will not do the food
shop, (you know the one, the one where all the shops shut for 2 days so you have to stock up
beyond believe just in case they never open again). We will buy gifts from Disney for family
and friends, instead of xmas presents, two birds with one stone. So I have done a little
caculation( produces the piece of paper)
kids xmas presents - £300 each ( I try a budget but it dont work. In my defence, I am a only
child, so is my EX Husband, so we have no extended family, so therefore I feel like I have to
add a bit more to compensate.)
xmas food _ £300
xmas presents for friends and family (dp is one of 4 brothers) - £300
Me: so if the total cost for xmas is £1200, take off the £100 for dollars for the kids, and
take of £100 more for little extras, that £1000, that we can put towards the trip. Dont forget
sweetheart that when we go in August we would have bought presents for you family anyway, this
way its xmas present and holiday gift so we save all round.
( Can I just say Ladies, you know that look on your mans face, when they know that they
aint going to win, and basically you are only filling them in on what you are going to do
anyway out of respect, and eventually you will make them think in was their idea anyway...
well that look was there!!!...Yeah BABY!)
So Ladies and Gentlemen this is how I got my Xmas trip....It was upto me to get the best deal
and to plan...oh dear you mean you are going to leave it all up to me...oh well never mind.
So sit back and enjoy, hopefully this trip report will make you smile and just maybe make you
laugh. Photos will be added. (hopefully) Once my post count is up
