Hi all!

My family (2 adults, 4 year old, 8-year old) are taking a 7 day cruise to the Western Carribean. My daughter really would like to do the dolphin encounter and somewhere, I think she'd really enjoy getting the braids (but where?). However, I am stumped about what other excursions are the best. We are headed to Key West, Castaway, Cozamel, and Grand Cayman.

We'd really appreciate your ideas!!

Andrea

Hi Andrea,
we jut got back from the western (itinerary change d/t Jeanne)we did the dolphin swim in cozumel-not with Disney. you actually get into the water and swim, kiss, shake and ride on the dolphin. i know the disney excursion is just as much but you are just waist deepon a platform. we booked with shoretrips.com. have fun!

Thanks for the information about shoretrips.com! I'm curious, how much time do you get in the water with the dolphins?

We were also on the "Jeanne" affected 9/25(27) cruise, and did the Dolphin Discovery (not Disney) as well. It was called the "Royal Swim" and was worth every penny. My kids (9 & 11) loved it as much as I did. You have to be at least 8 yrs old to do this "Royal Swim" though.

The time we spent in the water with the dolphins was about 30 minutes - and we had 7 people in our group taking turns. There is also about 30 minutes of instruction/life vest fitting before hand, and afterwards you get to watch the video of your time with the dolphins so you can see if you want to purchase it or not.

We spoke with others from the cruise ship who did the Disney Dolphin Encounter who said, that it was good, but would have rather had the chance to do what we had done with the dolphins. They just stayed on a platform with the dolphins, while we were actually in the water with the dolphins.

I also booked with shoretrips.com and had no problems - in fact they gave you heaps of info about how to get there etc.

It's a once in a lifetime experience and it is awesome. Unfortunately our Western Cruise didn't make it to the other destinations because of Jeanne - we would have loved to
swim with stingrays too.

The DW and I really enjoyed the Mayan ruins tour in Costa Maya. Lots of interesting information given during both the bus ride and the tour itself. Plus we were able to climb on parts of the ruins.

Dolphin Royal swim is a must in Cozumel. It is a lot of money but it is worth every penny.

In Grand Cayman you must do the Stingray. We did it with Captain Marvin and loved it. You can book it by their website.
