Ohhhh, I'm so glad to hear that DH isn't the only one who does this!

For example, we were having a problem with ants in the kitchen (I hate ants ), and I was trying to keep everything (counters and sink) as near to spotless as possible. He was making dinner (while I was working on something else). He left food all over the counter and in the sink (isn't that what the disposal is for? ). When I tactfully commented on it, it was like I needed to choose, the help or the mess. That's funny, because when I prepare dinner, it isn't one or the other...

Lawyers are NOT labrador retrievers. They can be lots of different types of dogs. Rat Terriers first come to mind.

You know Rat Terriers are very persistent. If the lawyer happens to be working for me, that sounds like a great trait! (Of course, if the lawyer is working for the other side, it's probably not so good... )



Update on Tigger: He's winning DH over too. Up until now, everytime he jumped in DH's lap DH would put him down and tell him to go see his mama. Last night, Tigger was playing in my lap. Out of the blue, his head came up, he jumped down, and ran over to DH. He started rolling around in his lap and playing with his hand. DH couldn't help but laugh at him and play with him. He's just too cute!

Good Morning Girls:

I ran into VP at the school yesterday (I tried to avoid her, but she tracked me down ) They have now decided to start the new class on 10/8 which is the Monday that follows DD's current track, tracking off. Makes sense to me. Also the "volunteer" to move letter went home with the kids yesterday and there was a gazillion of upset 3rd graders.

Lots and lots of drama yesterday 5 of our high school kids were in a car accident. 4 are ok they had seatbelts on. Kid number 5 was ejected as the vehicle rolled. I just got a call from my best friends hubby, turns out the Dad of the ejected kid works for him. The status of the 5th kid has been unknown. The kids thought yesterday afternoon that he did not survive but no one knew for sure and you know how the teenage grapevine works.

Sadly, I just learned that he did not survive the night.

The assumption that he didn't make it and the circumstances of the whole event made for a very emotional evening last night. We learned there had been an accident mid day yesterday and then the details trickled in all day. It was one of those things you hear about and you stop and immediately remind yourself when you last heard from your own kid and where they are at.

DS knew him they are the same age, but they were not friends and did not run in the same circles. I was surprised at the detachment that DS and his other friends who I saw last night displayed. I know I am a parent and therefore it hits me in a totally different way. We did talk alot about how 1 bad decision.............1 stupid mistake can be so costly. To the passenger who lost his life, to the driver who wrecked the car etc......Sometimes I really hate life lessons

Now I need to get payroll done, I never got to it yesterday.

Big game tonight, we play Reno HS at Reno. In our schools' history all 7 years, we have never beat them. It is a mental game as well as a physical match up.

Well, at least there IS a new teacher and the ball is rolling. How is your DD taking all of this?

I'm so sorry about the car accident. You're right, though, kids can be pretty detached about the whole concept of death and poor choices. They haven't got a fully developed sense of empathy and sympathy just yet, have they?

I think DD is a little nervous but reading the memo yesterday and seeing that there will be others seemed to help.

No, they don't have that sense yet, one of the reasons they do such stupid things. DS just called, the announcement was just made at the school. Sadly, in 7 years this is the 6th or 7th death we have had and all but 1 were vehicle related.

I looked at the CB thread, they need a biting my tongue smilie! The nerve, maybe I should go suggest private school or home schooling

My sympathies on the loss of a student. I think you're right that being a parent makes a difference. A freshman died on DD's campus weekend before last. He was at one of the frat houses and had climbed up in a tree at 3:45 a.m. to retrieve a football. He fell 15 feet and landed on concrete. He died later that day.

He was from Fort Worth, TX. I kept thinking how his parents sent him off to college about a month before with no idea that he would be coming back home this way. It just broke my heart.

They are only going to allow 2 from her class to leave. The goal is to get all classes to 18 students. Since her teacher only has 21 and I have already volunteered my DD, then only 2 more will be allowed.
One of the classes has 25 kids so a big chunk is leaving there but at least they are on the same track, so it is only a class change. However, it is with the best 3rd grade teacher, those parents are going to be fuming.
Sadly the kids that get moved are based on having siblings at the school, if they have siblings there then they are safe, if they don't they are the first to get messed with. Doesn't seem fair to me................

I'm telling you, home schooling for college looks more and more attractive every day

They are only going to allow 2 from her class to leave. The goal is to get all classes to 18 students. Since her teacher only has 21 and I have already volunteered my DD, then only 2 more will be allowed.

Personally, I think that is wrong, just because you have 2 kids at 1 school why should you be exempt from all the drama that a tract change can cause?

The whole tract thing gets interesting, the district only has 9 schools on multi track, the others are traditional schools. I personally think that because the % is so low that the district doesn't put much attention into it which leaves it in the hands of our administrators. The school up the street is smaller than ours, has 150 more kids and has remained traditional. We were border line in population but our Principal pushed for it. Now we are actually way under the #'s that mandate multi track but once they cross over to the "other side" they rarely come back! Sad.....

I said the other day I can be like a bull dog - maybe Rat Terrier was more appropriate!
It was the only way I could be assured she would get into the lottery and at least have a chance at one of the better tracks (schedule wise) the schedule was really important to me since her brother was in HS on a traditional schedule.
The Superintendant is the one who authorized me enrolling her for attendance purposes. Hey, they got more $$ and I got her into the lottery, which I did attend, which was poorly run and not equitable but I prevailed with the best tract. Now I am stepping down 1 notch to the 2nd best but since DS is headed to college and we won't have summer athletics to contend with it makes the decision easier.

The whole thing is just a royal PITA and I remind the administration what I think every chance I get

Well, I'm going to have to confess that my DD did not get the vaccination (she has had all of the others though that are required). We discussed it at length, but she has a needle phobia like you would not believe. It actually borders on the ridiculous (crosses the border, in my opinion ), but I've never been able to cure her of it. She will even agree with you that it's absurd, but she is one bullheaded child.

She is required to get a series of 3 Hepatitis shots (2 down so far) and TB skin tests each year for pharmacy school, and you would not believe how she ranted and raved. It makes no difference to her that it could save her life, they're violating her right to choose, it's a Nazi state, it's her business if she dies, etc., etc., etc. (you do remember my previous comments about her tending to be a little melodramatic over some issues, don't you ).

So, no, she didn't get the shot, but she should have.


BTW, I like that ratio too! Maybe things will start looking up soon!

Hope you all had a good weekend. It has actually been raining on and off most of the weekend here. Rare and we enjoyed every second of it. It was cool, gray and misty. Good book reading, napping weather!

DS's knee is acting up again. 3rd play of the game on Friday night and I knew something was wrong, by 1/2 time he could hardly stand on it yet kept on playing. Finally, the coach caught on and pulled him from the game. We were getting our butts kicked at that point without a lot of hope of recovery.

He will be visiting the Orthopedist as soon as I can get him in, I am impatiently waiting for the offices to start answering the phones. We didn't bother with urgent care over the weekend, figured there is not much they can do and we will address it first thing today. His coach gave me the Athletic Trainer contact info since I guess he has some pull getting our kids in ASAP. We shall see. DS is already established with the Ortho so it shouldn't be too tricky, although it is football season ........My biggest fear is that he did something that will take him out the rest of the season. He has worked so hard to earn that starting tackle position and this is his last season. Keep your fingers crossed that it is something minor and will heal in a couple of weeks, allowing him back into the game for Homecoming and Senior Night(last game of his HS Career).

Organized the books, cleaned the closets & drawers, tried on all the clothes, bagged up the ones that don't fit (just about everything, gheesh, this kid needs to stop growing) luckily, my neighbor across the street has a DD that is just about 1 size ahead of my DD and we inherited a ton of her winter clothes that fit my DD to a tee! My neighbor is a compulsive shopper about 1/2 the stuff she gave me still had the tags on them. DD ended up with 10 pairs of jeans, and 6 were brand new. Score, I don't need to do any winter shopping!

Aha, that inside track worked really well. The trainer called me, gave me a direct# and a name, told me the Dr. would be in surgery all day today and would see our athletes tomorrow. Called the inside line and got an appt. for DS for tomorrow! Now, lets all say a little prayer that it is something minor.................

I was about to congratulate you on all the extra room you have now (after clearing out the old clothes), but it sounds like you filled it back up with the new ones. Hooray for the neighbor. It sounds like your DD (and your pocketbook ) came out really well on that.

I just placed a fairly large order with JCPenney for DD. They have to wear professional type clothes for some parts of pharmacy school, and JCP has talls (which she has to have for her pants to be long enough).




We had a quiet weekend which was very nice. DD stayed at school to study for some big tests she has coming up this week, so we missed her.

Tomorrow I take DH to an ear specialist to determine whether he's a candidate for a surgery that would stop his the ringing in his ears. If they decide that he is, we'll got 3 consecutive days for treatment (all day). They'll examine him in the morning and decide whether he stays and begins the procedure or not. He was supposed to have it done this summer, but the hemmorhoid surgery turned out to be worse than expected and pushed everything else off the calendar. I'm hoping this will help his ears, because they really bother him.

Yikes, it seems so much of the country is sooooo dry. What do people do if there is not enough hay? I assume that is what you feed your horses.

It does mean a lot. In the grand scheme of things in life, it is a drop in the bucket, but IMO it is one of those times in life where the memories stay vivid for a very long time. It is the last of the carefree years, adult hood is looming. For myself, it is the end of a life stage, he is grown and ready to spread his wings, whether I am ready for it or not.

It sounds like your DD (and your pocketbook ) came out really well on that.

I love their talls! I really like that not only can I get pants, but I can also get shirts/sweaters in tall so the parts of my anatomy that never see the sun, continue to never see the sun
I am 5'8 and know exactly what you mean. We have a JC Penny outlet store here I used to work a block away, (that was dangerous) now I have to actually make an effort to go there. I must say, I do love the recent trend in the jeans worn with high heels. It gives me more variety when buying jeans to be worn with flats.

Oh dear, I hope things go well. I have read about people who have that ringing in their ears and it sounds miserable. My DH is too deaf to notice the ringing from when I whack him upside the head Have you told DH lately that he has used up his nursing/caregiving allotment for the year?

I thought of you yesterday. My DD spent the afternoon at her Best Friends house and they spent their time riding the horses. My DD was so excited, she got to trot. Then she went on to tell me the story of her BF whose horse started to canter and the BF doesn't know how to do that yet and fell off (she is just fine) then they got to clean the saddles with toothbrushes (which she did willingly, but does she clean her own room???? Of course not, I was). She had a great time. Her Dad picked her up (I was cleaning her room, and the whole family knows not to stop me once I get going) anyway, she came in the house and I could smell her coming I yelled down the hall "Shower..........do not pass go until you have showered" and that is when I thougt of you

Melissa, I sure hope your DS's knee is okay. We went through this last spring with DS's knee so I am very empathetic!

Didn't do a heck of a lot this weekend, but some floors DID get cleaned around here and a project done, so that was good. Went to see DD in Boulder yesterday afternoon and took her out for dinner - that was very nice. DS played two lacrosse games this weekend and they did well.

Nebraska won 41-40 over Ball State. I swear they are trying to kill me!
