Looks like DH's costume will be the easiest so far, mainly because I can find the pieces at thrift stores for next to nothing. He and I will be Goofy and Clarabelle. Blue work pants (cut into shorts due to FL weather), orange t-shirt, and black vest. His hat will be a little more difficult, but I think I can find the color of fabric I need and make something.

For Clarabelle I am thinking a cute vintage dress from a thrift store and a head band with horns fashioned onto it.

Now comes the problem(s), the 4 kids. They change their minds like I make them change their underwear. I believe we all know that kids wouldn't bathe without prompting atleast a few days a week. ;) I am sure the girls will want to be princesses, how boring! I was hoping for Jessie, Bo Peep, and maybe even a Mrs Potato Head. I am not buying them brand new Disney Princess dresses. Any ideas on pulling together budget friendly princess without having to actually sew them?

Also, what are you going to be for the MNSSHP this year????

Keep an eye out at thrift stores for dresses after Prom this year. They might be too long, but you could always cut them shorter.

Also, I have a costume that I got when a local rental place went out of business. Full satin fairy godmother outfit, lined and beautiful, I paid $2 for it xD. YAY!

Making costumes here, We (myself the mom, DD for her 16th Bday and best friend17) We will be going to 2 parties at one we will be Mad Hatter, Alice, and the red queen. At the other we will be 3 very cool witches, remaking prom dress over for that one, and wearing coordinating converse on our feet.

If the girls have a t-shirt with their favorite princess on it, you can pair it with a homemade (or bought) tutu in a coordinating color. Something like this but with a princess shirt of course:

You could do green and creamy white for Tiana or white and yellow for Belle. Then get some cheap princess crowns from the $1 store or party city to top off the look :)

BTW- tutus are very easy and cheap to make using tulle with absolutely no sewing involved! There are quite a few good tutorials on youtube!

Color me jealous! Full satin fairy g-mom costume for $2. I live in podunk, we had one costume shop come in and go out within the same year. The other costume shop in town (which has been around for well, forever) bought just about every good costume they had. :headache:

Definitely look at thrift stores. Flower girl dresses can be great for princesses!

I need to hit the thrift stores myself. I am going to be Mother Gothel (My dd says I look like her anyway, what a complement) so I am in search of a Renaissance princess costume in burgundy. DH is going to be Dr. Facilier, I think we can also find most of those pieces at a thrift store. We are going on an adults only trip in Oct, our first MNSSHP!!!

I am taking my dd10 and her friend for an Oct birthday trip and we are going as White Rabbit (me) Cheshire Cat (dd) and The Hatter (friend). We are designing and making the girls costumes. My dd19 is a great artist and designed wonderful costumes, we will have to see if our sewing skills can pull it off!

I am disappointed that there is no more face painting at Magic Kingdom though, the last time we went dd and I went in at 4 and got our face painted to match our costumes. If I have to go to Downtown Disney and then back to the park it will be annoying. I guess they are not offering the free face painting either at the party anymore? Does anyone know?

I've got a wench costume. Already had a black renaissance corset (I've used this as a base for my costumes for the past 20 years.), added a white linen peasant blouse that looks like it might be a shift, and then added a great skirt when I found one at the thrift. I have a couple of different prairie skirts that I wear as petticoats (depending upon the weather). Jewelry is stuff I've been collecting from garage sales and estate sales and thrift stores for years. Add a drawstring bag from the dollar tree, a cheap head scarf and leather boots that lace up the back (thrift store find). It's very cute and vey detailed!

I basically keep in mind possible costumes throughout the year and when I see a piece I could use, I buy it, take it home, determine if what I already have for that costume is better and then either return the just bought piece or donate the old piece back to the thrift! :rotfl:

I'm thinking of changing up my look and going as a Wild-West dance hall girl. (I'd have to buy a different corset, but I've been wanting a period accurate mid 19th century corset anyway.) I've got a red satin prom dress from the 80's (thrift store) to cut down for this. I'll just have to re-make it.

Last year I found a heavy weight, black leather duster at the thrift for $20. DH appropriated it the moment it came into the house and now has a full Harry Dresden costume. I suppose I should figure out a character from the Dresden Files books to match his and start keeping my eyes open now. I am NOT doing Molly or Karrin, although I probably should do Karrin. . .)

I love the Dresden books! Would love to see the costumes :) When are you going, I'll keep a look out for you if we happen to be at the same time.

I am going to 2 MNSSHP, so ideally I would like 2 costumes. There are 4 of us going to 1, I was thinking we might be characters from the Hunger Games. Not sure if we'd all 4 be tributes or if we could mix it up and have maybe Katniss/Peeta and Effie/Haymitch. I am thinking the Tribute costumes would be easy, i would try to find something close to the track suits with their District number they were on the back when they were training.

The other party there will just be 2 of us, and I think we are going to go with Last Crusade Indiana Jones and Elsa. Pretty much because I think her costume is more interesting than Marian's.
