Let the food fighting begin!

Today was DS's 4 mos appt. He is growing like a weed...almost 26 in long now and weighs 13 lbs and 8.5 oz. The doc gave him his shots and we are cleared to start rice cereal. Woo!


Anybody have any good advice for getting the cereal INTO him instead of ONTO him and me and the floor and the cat and DH?

Today I attempted to feed him first bit of rice cereal. I put a teeny teeny bit on his plastic babyspoon and fed it to him. He tasted it and made this awful face which really made me giggle. Then he looked at me like "Geeze, Mom. What are you giving me this *bleep* for? Yuck!"

I got a picture of the face he made which I'll upload to photobucket as soon as it stops being a turdfaced baboon. :/

Dress him only in a diaper.

Put some stage 1 veggies in it, start with orange and yellow.

Have a lot of damp paper towels ready.

Make as small an amount as you can at first, so you don't waste it. It seems to expand in the bowl!

I second keeping the cat away, it might begin to beg for food down the road!!

Our pedi said we can only do rice cereal for now.It's more about getting him used to something other than formula for the moment and we were told specifically NOT to put the cereal in his bottle because it would delay him learning to eat mushy foods. I can't wait to start trying veggies a nd stuff with him, though I know that's probably 2-4 mos down the road. We'll see what his doc says in 2 mos at his 6 mos appt. But so far, DS is doing great. He's still a teeny bit below average but as long as he's trending upward on the curve, he's ok. He's gaining weight like crazy and hitting his milestones like a champ.

Now if we can just get this 'eating' thing down....heehee..god I love being a parent. THis is so much fun now that he can actually do stuff besides lay there like a wet beanbag.
