Welcome to my trip report about my wonderful trip to Puerto Rico and the inagural Southern Caribbean cruise on the Disney Magic!
Introduction and Doggy Drama lead up to the trip
A little about myself. My name is Jill and I live in Denver, CO. I am the proud mommy of a furbaby named Bailey.

I work hard to support my travel habit. I really need to win the lottery!
I booked the cruise on opening day and I had been eagerly awaiting this itinerary for a long time. This was my first time to Puerto Rico and the first time to all the ports. My friend and TA, Debbie, and her daughter, Kayla as well as some of Debbie's co-workers, were also on the cruise and we planned to link our reservations together so we could dine together.
I began to start seriously planning the trip last May. WDW announced that F&W was starting earlier this year. I was really tempted to swing by Orlando since I have to change planes in Florida anyway. In the end, I decided to spend the extra time exploring San Juan. I am a DVC member and after a couple of heavy borrowing years, I decided to take a year off to save points and for the first time in years I didn't have an annual pass. In the end, I think I made the right decision.
I booked a room at the Sheraton Old San Juan. The Magic was originally supposed to sail from the dock right across the street but it was eventually moved to the Pan Am pier. I cashed in my Southwest Rapid Reward points and booked my free ticket to San Juan.
I didn't do much more planning until July. The summer is my busiest time at work so I basically tried to keep my head above water! I was chatting with one of my co-workers who really recommended a bio-luminescent bay tour. I looked into it and ended up booking a boat tour.
At the beginning of August, I took my dog to the groomers to get a bath and nail trim since my parents were coming to visit later in the week and I was leaving on a work trip the next week. As I was checking out, the groomer told me they had noticed a sore spot on Bailey's paw. I looked at it and thought it looked like an abscess. I had been dog sitting a puppy for a friend a couple of weeks before and thought it might be possible that they had gotten at each other when I wasn't watching. The vet I go to is open 7 days a week so I decided just to head over there to see if they could look at the sore. I was able to drop Bailey off at the vet and they called me later to say the spot was actually a tumor. Cue the panic. The vet took a needle aspiration and wrapped up Bailey's foot and told me to come back on Wednesday to get the bandage checked.

Fast forward to Wednesday. My parents arrived and we went to the vet. The vet told me that the tumor was a Mast tumor and that because of where the tumor was on her paw, they would actually have to amputate her toe. (for $900!) The vet wanted to schedule for the next Friday but I was going to be out of town so we scheduled for the next Monday. The night before the surgery, Bailey started flapping her ears and shaking her head. I dropped her off the next morning and told them about the ear flapping. Turns out she had gotten bitten by some sort of bug and was having an allergic reaction! They got the allergic reaction under control but then one of her liver tests came back really high. The vet decided that they wanted her to take antibiotics and supplements for 2 weeks. By that time it was the end of August. The vet was supposed to be on vacation so I couldn't schedule the surgery until then but I was worried about having the surgery so close to me leaving. I tried to postponed until I got home but the vet insisted on doing the surgery on Monday, 9/8. I was petrified that Bailey wouldn't be fully healed by the time I left but the vet assured me it would be fine. (Not!)
Bailey had the surgery and she was very lethargic for the first 3-4 days.

At her first bandage check on Thursday, the would was still raw. They had me come back on Tuesday, 9/16, the night before I left. I thought they would take the stitches out but the wound still hadn't healed enough. They finally agreed that she would be ok for the 10 days I would be gone and I could just bring her in when I got home to get the stitches out. I was already freaked out about the possibility of cancer and I really didn't want to inconvenience my friends that were dog sitting for me. Luckily, everything was fine while I was gone but I was still nervous!
I drove Bailey over to my friends house and dropped her off. They were very cool with me leaving her in her poor bandaged condition.
Bailey was getting along well and they took super good care of her. I drove home and finished (over) packing. I finished up and headed to bed.
