I was at my friend's house the other day and witnessed something I never have before...she was popping popcorn on the stove:scared1:

I've never done it that way. I've never seen it done this way. So, it made me think...how do you like it? Air-popped? Microwave? Stove? Fireplace?

I grew up with an air-popper, then we moved on to the microwave. I guess I got used to nuking it (but after tasting my friend's popcorn) I'll have to try it on the stove.

She prefers her popcorn popped on the stove in vegetable oil and adds salt & butter. Her husband likes it on the stove in bacon grease and adds salt & butter.

hmm bacon

i grew up with an air popper. when we were on my grandparent's boat we'd use the stove. i don't eat popcorn too much these days.

I used to love the Jiffy Pop Corn on the stove.

MMMMMMMM, I LOVE popcorn. I eat it every single day!! I always air pop it, with some spray butter and garlic salt. YUM!!

I do, sometimes, make it on the stove with olive oil. That's my next favorite.

I really don't care for microwave popcorn. It just tastes ... funky. It takes just as long in the air popper and is sooooo much better for you!

When I was staying with a penpal in France, a long time ago now ;), they cooked it in a big pan on the stove.

Once we "tried" to use a Jiffy Pop on a campfire. Bad idea...bad idea...bad idea...

I grew up with my mom making it on the stove. I tend to burn it that way and it's so time consuming that I prefer Microwave.

On the stove!!! My Dad has a pan that he has had since he was a boy. We we go visit them, I always request his famous popcorn. My sister and I have a deal that once our parents die (not a good thought at all), I get the pan. It truly is the only thing that I want from my parents that is special and will always have memories in it. This pan has been through everything. It's been on fire and thrown in the snow, been worn on my head as a hat, played with by my kids (it makes he best drum as well), and made the best popcorn! When I think of comfort food, popcorn is my choice!!!

burnt! :p

(I grew up with it popped on the stove, and picked out the burnt ones to eat  )

I'm not a popcorn lover. But when I was a teenager (many years ago-pre microwave LOL), I used to make it for my younger brother and sisters. I would burn my hand every time. So one Christmas, my mom bought me an air popper. It was great, made it fast and it tasted good. I've never cared for microwave popcorn.

 That is sooo sweet! My friend also has good memories of popping popcorn this way with her folks. She says the smell just brings back a flood of special family moments.

Hmmm, I don't have any "special" memories of standing around the microwave with my family......I'm going to call my therapist...

It is HA and MA. Hey...you didn't say how you prefer your corn.::yes::

I knew it!! It either had to be him or D.S. :teeth:.

Do Cracker Jacks count? I am not crazy about popcorn, but if I'm hungry I do occasionally like fresh movie theater popcorn.

I can't stand to eat or even smell burnt popcorn, though. Gross. And I don't like the smell of microwave popcorn. It just seems to linger.

lol. You do realize thats how people USED to do it right?

The air popped and nuker are NEW. Stove popped is the way it used to be done. They even sold the popcorn in foil pans with wire handles so you could shake the popcorn as it cooked so it didn't burn.

*groans* I think i just showed my age lol.

We did actually own a popcorn popper that you used in a fireplace. Long black handle, little holes on the top. But we never actually USED it:earseek: My dad said it always burned the kernels. Then why did we have it? :scratchin

yummmmmmmm on the stove that's the best way.

then maybe an air popper (which we didn't have but my aunt/uncle did)

microwave comes in dead last

Stove popped is the best. We have one of those whirly pop machines that we add oil, popcorn kernels and sugar to. Then turn the knob when it starts popping. Makes the best-darned popcorn you've ever tasted.

DH likes to make it also without the sugar, then add butter and parmesan cheese to it when it's done.

I do like microwaved popcorn too. We have it every day at 3:00 at work. "It's 19 minutes til popcorn time." If we are running late it's "popcorn o'five"
