Hello all,
I am new to the DisBoard, not sure why I have never been here, but c'est la vie.
My name is Shannon, I am 33 and the mother of a very enthustiastic 8 year old daughter. My husband is disabled and not able to travel with us, so for vacations it's me and my skootch to have our adventures together.
I have been to Disney 3 times, the first when I was 5 and my recollection is of hiding from EVERYTHING. I remember the Country Bears scared me, Snow White's Ride terrified me and don;t even get me started on the ghosts in the Doom Buggy's...
My second trip was at the age of 30, a quick day trip with my boss as we were in Orlando at a business convention and took one day to visit the World. Of course, she had to pick the day to hit this when I had been up at 5 am to do a 5k walk at Wide World of Sports (and I am NOT athletic). So we wnt to Disney and since we only had about 6 hours or so we decided to visit MK and MGM as they held the most rides.
It was so totally great cause all I had were cloudy, yet frightening, memories from childhood and this completely melted this away and I had the greatest day.
The most recent and BEST
trip was Sept '04 with my family. My daughter (6 then) and baby brother (28 at the time) had never been (he was like a year when we went in '78 so Mom left him home), my parents (their second trip ever), my other brother (29 and quite the veteran, thanks to his wife), my baby brothers fiance (experienced), her best friend (experienced), other brothers estranged wife (don't ask) and my uncle (48 and I think his second trip ever as well)
We had 7 days together and went to all the parks together (day 1 we didn't go to a park) and then left it as a free for all on the last 2 days.
It was by far the greatest vacation I ever had, everyone got to relax, I had done some minor research so I had some idea of things I wanted to do and having everyone there meant I got to go on rides that DD would never go on and I could not leave her alone while I rode (hmmmm)
So here I am, planning 2 weeks for the two of us, to relax, enjoy and start making new memories. I am hoping to do a trip every 2 years, inviting friends and family to join if they want, but giving me at least a week with my daughter when I can be a kid again and we can share magic together.
I look forward to reading everyone's trip reports and tips and all the information I can so I can plan out a great time for the two of us.
I look forward to "meeting" more of the group soon.
