I am getting married in less than two weeks and I think I might be getting another cold! Half my class (literally) was out today, those that were here were coughing and at least one had a very red throat according to our nurse. We have multiple teachers out, and the district where my fiance subs is that same way.

All of a sudden I am starting to get that sore throat that I normally get before a cold. The problem is for me it is never just a cold. I've had bronchitis four times in the last year and a half, all came on after colds. Is there anything you do when you get those warning signs to help stave it off? I'd rather not spend my wedding and honeymoon totally miserable. Thanks!

have you tried some Ziacam? For me that usually works, even if I end up with the cold it usually doesn't last as long.

from someone who used to get bronchitis often, the zicam is great (use zinc lozenges too) , try to steam yourself either in a shower but preferably over a sink a couple times a day (breathe in the steam, it keeps everything moist and you can cough out anything before it settles in), drink plenty of water and get tons of rest.

I used todo the Zicam when it was the nasal swabs, but they got rid of those over people being stupid with them. I tried thechews, but they were nasty. Is there a delivery method that other people seem to think works better than the others? What about Airborne? Has anybody had good luck with that?

I agree with you that the Zicam nasal gel/swabs worked by FAR the best, and I was sad when they took those off the market.

Have you tried the Zicam RAPID MELT tabs? They aren't nasty. I hate the cherry flavor because I hate cherry in medicine, but the citrus flavor isn't bad. They dissolve QUICKLY and they are the only thing that really works for me to stave off a true cold. You really do have to start taking them NOW and keep going every three hours until your symptoms are really gone.

Hope you are able to stave it off and you have a wonderful wedding and honeymoon! :)

I honestly think sleep is the best thing for fighting off a cold. I know this also may sound funny but we all like yogurt in our family and I think it helps fight off illness.

Zicam or echinaca/goldenroot...

And if you are very heavily overproducing the yucky stuff....mucinex!!!!!!! I take that especially if the cold is in my chest. Not usually for a headcold.

I had a cold last week...oddest cold. B/c I felt like garbage for a couple of days and one week later I am fine. I still have some mild side effects, but it feels just like allergies. A benadryl is enough to clear that up.

Best wishes on your wedding day! I suggest the groom do the echinacea/goldenroot as a preventative since you are likely to pass it along to him.

And sleep backed up with Nyquil is good as well

I also have the bronchitis problem - I can tell exactly when it's one of those colds that is going to settle. I use Airborne and it works great for me! I haven't seen Zicam in Canada, but Airborne made it here a couple of years ago. I agree with the sleep, sleep and more sleep idea. I usually take Airborne every three or four hours when I feel something coming on and try to get a sleep in right after one of the tablets and usually have great success fighting it off.

I've already told my family that we are all taking Airborne every night in the week leading up to our trip for prevention purposes (that's next week!!)

Also, for the future - probiotics! I know they're meant for intestinal health, but we take them all winter and rarely get sick and if so it's quite short.

I hope you fight this off and have a beautiful wedding and honeymoon!!

Thanks for all of the advice. Here is my present plan of attack:

-Airborne and Zicam according to their dosing schedule.
- NeilMed Sinus Rinse 2x a day (haven't been doing this as often as I should.)
-Extra rest and fluids

Anything else that works for people would be great.

Zicam! Fluids, rest, vitamin C bump, veggies -repeat. If it comes...Mucinex, zicam, fluids, rest, vitamin C, veggies -keep at it. Rest is most imporatant and may not be possible due to your upcoming nuptials. :) Feel better. Load up on tissues, vaseline and tylenol or advil. Zicam-now.

I'd watch the 2X a day rinse. Sometimes the saline makes my nasal passages sore. I use it every 18 hours instead of twice a day. I'm pretty sensitive.

Zicam, plenty of rest, fluids, and good old fashioned home-made chicken soup.
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Another vote for the sinus rinse/neti pots...

Don't be afraid to visit you doc, let him know that you're about to get married, and see he will give you some antibiotics as a precaution.

Part of the "risk" of a winter wedding...I know from experience...I was antibiotics for sinus infection.

Hope you get to feeling better.

I love my NeilMed Sinus Rinse. It works wonders. I also use Zicam even though it's super gross now that they've done away with the nasal swabs.

I hate airborne but take it anyone just because it's an extra dose of vitamins.

DRINK PLENTY OF WATER!! Take it easy, wash your hands a lot, and sleep!

I hope you feel better quickly:hug: and can enjoy the time preparing for your wedding. So excited for you!:goodvibes

Puffs tissues. Don't need that Rudolph nose in the wedding pics!

Plenty of rest is a must. You're probably getting sick due to stress and lack of sleep due to the upcoming wedding. Pamper yourself as much as possible.

I think it's actually a good thing you're getting sick now. Usually takes 7-10 days to go through your system, which should leave you ready to go for the big day and you need to destress and rest now more than ever, so now you're forced to. ;)

And congratulations!!!!! Would love to see pics when you're back.
