If a sandwich comes with fries, chips, or another side, do they still charge less if you ask for just the sandwich alone?

You can buy the combo or any element within. If you buy just a burger you are not charged for the combo

they don’t advertise it because it’s better for them for you to buy the combo

but you absolutely can buy just the entree w/o a combo

Another option is to substitute a healthy side like fresh fruit or veggies, if available.

Thanks everyone! We usually won't eat more than a couple fries or chips so if just one out of the four of us gets the combo that's enough and I'm happy to save a few bucks here and there. Fruit is a great option, too; I hadn't thought of asking to substitute!

I've asked for the sandwich only, no side (of chips, fries) at CS. It's always been $2 less. In a way that's not a good deal-usually just chips or fries cost more than $2, but it's better than ordering it all and not eating the side.
