Lesli's Live Long and Strong WISH Journal

Hi!

Hope you're having a great time in Atlanta!

It's COLD :cold: here!

Hi Lesli!

Hope you enjoying your time in Atlanta!
I also hope that the organizers of the wall realize the contributions the GS made anyway and how much more they could have done if a true sanctioned part of the event.
Oh, and congrats on getting back on track! You rock!

Sorry I haven't been around the past week or so, things were wild but are settled down now!
Mike :goodvibes

I'm back! The scale is up a little, but I am confident that it is mostly lack of water and lack of sleep. I think we figured that sleep was between 20-22 hours for over the course of 4 days. So today, I am extremely tired.

Our flight was delayed on Thursday due to the weather from Tropical Storm Tammy. So basically we got to the hotel after 12:30AM. By the time we checked in and put things away, since we knew we wouldn't have time in the morning, it was 2AM before I got to bed.

The meetings were almost non-stop. There were many vendors with great program information, so I came home with a a ton of paper that I have to sort through later. But I got to meet some very intersting people and has some wonderful conversations. In fact they had strategy cafes opened up so that we could share our input on various areas in GS. Supposedly, this information will be going up on a website, so I need to check and see if my concerns, ideas and thoughts got posted. It would be cool.

Did very little sightseeing and a lot of walking.

I am going to cut this short for now and will try to write more later. For now, I am very tired as I didn't get home until after 10pm, so I need to go rest before my leader meeting tonight.

Talk to you all later. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Welcome home!!!

Sounds like a very productive and active trip! I hope you can catch up on your rest soon!

Glad to see you back and hear it was productive. Can't wait to talk to you more about it. Get some rest!!!!!

Hi!

Just dropping by to see how you're doing. Hopefully you've been able to catch up on some rest and get things back in order.

Have a wonderful day! :earsboy:

That was so long ago.

I know that I missed my AM and PM snacks. Breakfast was on plan and I did have a salad for lunch. Most of the day was spent tying up a few loose ends and packing for the trip.

Left for the airport at 3:45pm. The person I was rooming with lives in the next town over so she and her husband just swung by. It was nice of them to do and it gave us a chance to get to know each other, which we didn't before the trip. We got to the airport about 4:15pm. The plane was supposed to leave at 5:34pm, but we found that we were delayed until after 6 something due to Tropical Storm Tammy. At the airport, we met up with another person who was traveling with us and we all decided to eat an early supper since we would be getting in later. During supper, the plane was delayed even further until 8:30pm. Let me tell you, there is not alot to do in the Moline airport. It is just a small airport. Supper could have been much better. I ate a salad (only iceberg lettuce) with grilled chicken.

Finally, the plane leaves. It wasn't full so we spread out a bit. I ate the small bag of pretzels they give you and had a sprite. We had a lot of turbulence early in the flight, but as we got closer to Atlanta it was smooth, but extremely foggy. Did I tell you it was cold at home when we left? Well, it was cold and rainy in Atlanta, so not much of a climate change.

We walked from one end of the concourse to the other, caught the train which took us to the opposite end for luggage, then went to get a taxi. By then we were exhausted. The line at the taxi stand was long since many many flights were coming in late. It was probably 20 minutes to the hotel. That was another fiasco. The rooms were taken care of by the Council and yet the lady at the desk kept telling us that they weren't paid for yet. Of course, when she finally double checked she found that they were. We finally headed up to our rooms after 12:30am. By the time we unpacked, knowing we didn't have time in the morning, we finally got to bed about 2am.

That was the start of the sleeplessness. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

I am telling you that morning came too soon.

We got up early and went down for breakfast. They have a very good breakfast buffet at the Wyndham Atlanta. I ate lots of fruits, including logan berries, which were new for me. 2 slices of bacon, scrambled eggs, grits w/ golden raisins, oatmeal, biscuit and gravy (excellent gravy), and a bran muffin. It was a lot of food even though all the portions were small. We were just so hungry by then.

After that, we took the convention shuttle bus over to the convention, which was in the new building at the Georgia Convention Center (the site of the Olympics). Yes, we did drive by the park where the bomber was during those Olympics. There wasn't much to do in the morning. The only thing going on was Open Space forums for the delegates. My roomie and I were alternates, so we had a little free time before the Hall of Exhibits opened. We managed to catch a tour before it left the convention center (great timing). The tour was not worth the money paid, but parts were very interesting and considering that our sightseeing time was precious, we are glad that we at least got to see something.

The tour traveled down a good stretch of Peachtree street, the oldest road in Atlanta. We went over to the Buckhead area where the houses are much older (since the Civil War) and extremely expensive. One of the houses we stopped at was the Swan House. It was beautiful. Built in 1927 for $100,000, the owner passed away a few years later and his widow resided there until the 1980's or 90's. It sits on 27 acres of land and she didn't want to see her home and land broken into smaller pieces so she sold it to the historical society for $500,000. This was far under the market value but it was more important to the widow to have her home preserved. To give you an estimate of the value today, the society just finished a $6.5 million restoration. We also toured through the Atlanta History Center. Then we went over to Lenox Square. We didn't have much time to do any shopping, but I guess it is a fairly good sized mall. I have never seen a mall with valet parking before, but they have it here.

My roomie and I had lunch there at a place called Mick's. Great food. We started with fried green tomatoes and goat cheese. It was good. I have never had either one before. Then we had a chicken and walnut salad, which was pretty tasty.

The tour took us back to the convention center where we then proceeded through the hall of exhibits. The number of vendors there was unreal. There was so much free stuff and program info that I was weighed down rather quickly. We didn't get quite 1/2 way through, then we went back to the hotel to change for the opening ceremony.

After changing, we went back to the convention, did a little shopping at the equipment store. It's where they have all the uniforms, supplies, and misc fun items. I spent too much money.

Then we went to sit for the opening ceremony. It was fun and it went quick. They had a parade of flags from around the world which was fun too watch. Then the local GS councils had girls perform a dance in the aisles. It was really cute.

Now the trick was to get back to the hotel after the ceremony was over. There was a sea of 15,000 people trying to make their way to 4 bus stops. Someone really over looked the logistics on this one. It took us an hour before we got on a bus and there were still alot of people waiting when we left.

At the hotel, we went down to the lounge to have supper. I think it was about 11pm or so, by the time we got our food. I had a chicken quesadea. The hotel was understaffed so things were taking longer. They also had 2 weddings going on and another party aside from a hotel full of GS. The food was good though. Water for the day was not so good.

Finally, we made it to bed just after 1pm. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Welcome Back, Lesli! Sounds like two rather full, busy, exhausting days! Atlanta is a pretty city; I'm glad you got to tour some of it.

Hope you're home resting and recouping. Have a great day!

Hey there Lesli!

Welcome back!! Your trip report looks cool so far, I can't wait to read more!
Hope you are getting settled back in and are having a great day!

Mike :goodvibes

I love reading your trip reports!

Sounds like this trip was quite the culinary adventure for you. I've never heard of a logan berry before--how interesting!

I can't wait to hear about the "business" of the convention. I know a couple of older girls from local troops who atteneded and I got the impression it was a very productive conferece.

Hope you've caught up on some more rest!

Hi!

Hope you've had a great day today!!! :goodvibes

Yesterday was a pretty decent day. Although, I am not doing so hot in the food department and I am still tired. This morning, it finally occurred to me that I am probably tired because my food is out of whack. Not that everything is unhealthy, but my portions are larger than they should be and I am eating off schedule so to speak. Not enough water or fruits and veggies. I have been getting enough hours of sleep in to catch up and earlier in the week had a few naps during the afternoon, so it is not a sleep deprivation thing anymore.

The scale is still up a little, but I know that it is mostly water and lack of water has not helped any. Most of the week, I have been going through the "is it worth it?", "after all, I do weigh less now than I have in a long time", "do I really care anymore", "I don't have time to eat", "things are so out of balance around here that I can't concentrate on food and health", "I'm just too tired". The list goes on.

As you can tell, I haven't been real good this week about journaling either.

But, I want to do this, I want to lose more weight, I want to get my life back in order. I want to stop being pulled in too many directions. So today, I am going to work really hard to get back on track with a well rounded diet and try to get some things organized around here so that I can get other things done aside from GS. I am at a point that if I let this go now, I am afraid that I will never resume again and I will not let that happen.

Yesterday, Friday, was busy with errands in the morning. The rest of the day was spent trying to figure out some priorities. Breakfast was cream of wheat. Lunch was a Martha's Vineyard Salad. I ate the entire thing without realizing. A couple of Tbsp of PB in the afternoon. Supper was a chicken pot pie. Again too much food. That was followed by popcorn. I literally felt stuffed and I hate that feeling. Water was a couple of glasses.

The day before, Thursday, I did some light cleaning around the house, but by afternoon, I was veggin out and took a short nap. Breakfast was a bowl of raisin bran. Lunch was a brat on bun. Had some M&M's. Supper was 3 slices of pizza. Popcorn late in the evening. Water was horrible. I just didn't care.

Wednesday. Worked on some GS. Did a training in the evening that went alright. Could have been much better. During the afternoon, I vegged and watched two shows that DH recorded for me, then I napped. Breakfast was cream of wheat. For lunch, DH and I had Chinese buffet and I ate too much. Supper was very late after the training. I stopped at DQ and got a hamburger and a small heath blizzard. It was a nice little treat, but would have been nicer if it was earlier in the day and the rest of my eating was better. Water was horrible

Tuesday. I was so tired, it wasn't funny. After everyone left in the morning, I laid back down and slept. Even DS crawled up and rested with me. Of course, then I tried really hard to get the rest of my meeting put together in the afternoon. Breakfast was oatmeal and less than 1 scrambled egg. Lunch I don't remember. Supper was a few pieces of candy at the leader meeting. I was so tired by then that I had to apologize to everyone for being a few minutes late. Afterwards, I went to a local gift shop that was having a special Christmas shopping spree and sampled a couple of crackers and dip, a couple of bites of cheesecake, and a couple of bites of pumpkin cobbler. Water was horrible. I just was so tired, that I didn't eat much at all.

That just about catches me up. I have a few Convention days yet to post, but for the most part I am ready to move forward.

Breakfast: cream of wheat, 1/2 c apple juice, 1 egg omelet w/cheese
AM snack: find a piece of fruit
Lunch: HC garden veggie soup
PM snack: milk & banana
Supper: salad, maybe chicken & broccoli ring

Goals for day:
1. Exercise for 30 min
2. Straighten my office
3. Put away all GS that I don't need to work on any longer

I did get in quite a few minutes of walking at the Convention, so I upped my exercise minutes for the month! Now to keep things going.

Better run. I need to take DD8 to a Brownie Splash so she can swim, come home, clean, go pick her up, come home, clean, have an older girl GS meeting (at least this one they do themselves), and then clean some more.

I have a cousin stopping by to visit at some point today. He took some of the family research that I have done with him on his vacation out west and says he has some information and pictures for me. I really love this hobby.

Everyone have a great and wonderful weekend. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Hi Lesli!!

Sorry to hear you were feeling a bit off track! I hope that your refocusing and balancing of your food went well today! You have said you want to lose more & I certainly know that you can!!! Hope that you can keep up with journaling. I sooo find that the accountability it provides helps me.

Hope you got some good family info from your cousin! Oh, and go drink some water! hehe :)

Mike :goodvibes

I think the scale is beginning to go back down. The 190's have been one tough roller coaster, but at least it is not fluctuating that much and really is something that would be expected when I get to the maintenance point.

Yesterday was fun. I didn't get too my office, but I did do some general cleaning in quite a few rooms of the house. Also swept the screened porch and outside along the front of the house. At least it looks a little more presentable around here. DD8 had fun at her Brownie splash. The kid is a fish.

I had a great time visiting with my cousin and he brought his sister along, so it was a nice surprise. We chatted for quite awhile. I also got more tidbits of info to research and although no one really has much knowledge of the family, some of the tidbits have already proven useful. I now know where my grandmother's mother is buried and when she died. The cousins couldn't remember the details, but gave me enought to search on the internet. I love playing dectective! I also think I have the addresses of more family. Part of the line that we are missing. Anyway, the cousin who went west told me that he followed my directions all over WY and MT and really enjoyed seeing the various places where the family had been. He also told me that I am officially the family historian. It feels good. This part of my family knows so little about where they came from. Either their mother's didn't know or just never passed it on. So all the research that I am doing is not only a treasure to me but to the entire family. Anyway, a good part of the work in progress has already begun to make it's rounds thru the family. My cousin also gave me a copy of a book that my great grandfather wrote. It was really a great time.

Missed the am snack. Lunch was on plan with the addition of a few crackers. PM snack turned into peanut M&M's. Supper was steak, salad, baked potato and wine. DH still doesn't understand portion control and handed me a giant baked potato. Oh well.

Breakfast: oatmeal, 1 c. apple juice
AM snack: apple
Lunch: salad
PM snack: milk & fruit
Supper: ???

Goals for day:
1. straighten more of my office
2. bookwork

Very simple. I just need to catch up. My DSis and family are coming down today. Her husband and mine are supposed to finish up the last roof that we have to re-roof. It is very small, just above a portico. So hopefully, things will go smoothly today.

Better get going. I have lots to do. But then when don't I?

Everyone have a great day! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Well, I wrote and then accidentally, closed the program so good bye to all I wrote.

Long story short. Stayed busy yesterday. Still feeling so far behind. DH and I began shopping for closet systems and basement windows so that we can get DD18's old bedroom finished up for DD15 to move in. Hopefully, by the end of next week.

Received a phone call with a list of cousins that the family has been looking for awhile. It was so exciting. Now to start contacting them.

Talked to my mom and I guess the road that was supposed to go through her house is about 10 years off. The state is in the notification stage and I guess it takes that long to get money allocated and the project completed. According to the DOT anyway. On the plus side, they had someone make an offer on their house and papers will be signed in a couple of days. Just one of those out of the blue things, but looks like everything could work out anyway.

AM snack was missed. Lunch was brat on bun which was too heavy and didn't sit well. PM snack was M&M's. I really need to kick this habit. Supper was 2 bowls of chili. I could have done with one, but I haven't had homemade chili in awhile, so I let the taste rule. There might have been a Tbsp of PB in there somewhere. Water was about 1/2 what it should be.

I am feeling so far behind that it isn't funny. It really isn't helping my mood as far as weight loss. At the moment that just seems like one more thing that I have to really work on that I don't have much time for. When I look at my calendar, it seems that I don't have time for anything. DD15's Sweet 16 is coming up and we are doing a big party, then I have to start planning for DH's family reunion (of all years, this one is our turn), then there is Christmas to get ready for and I haven't started, then I need to make Halloween costumes, there are some important meetings coming up in the next two weeks, and the end of the year is coming so the bookwork needs to be caught up for taxes. I am going a little crazy now.

Breakfast: 1 egg omelet w/mushrooms, gr pepper & cheese, yogurt, oatmeal
AM snack: banana
Lunch: salad w/ham & craisins
PM snack: veggies
Supper: probably chili

Goals for day:
1. stay sane
2. GS in the morning
3. bookwork the rest of the day

I also need to get ready for a party I am having tomorrow. There's a Brownie meeting after school. AND DSis' husband says he will be out today. Didn't make it yesterday, so I will wait and see today. Oh, yeah, I need to get some mail orders returned. Too much to do.

Talk to you all later and have a great day! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Wow! There certainly in a lot going on in your life at the moment! I hope you're finding a few minutes of quiet each day to center yourself. You do so much for other people--don't forget about yourself!

I'm having the same M&M issue. I swear they multiply in the cabinets or something! I need to find some nice skinny children to pawn mine off on!

It sounds like you're starting to get yourself back to healthier, more balanced eating. Good for you! You've made great progress and there's more to come, so I hope you can find your inspiration and energy again! You can do it! :cheer2:

Have a great day!!! :sunny:

Edited to add--does anyone else find it funny that I made post number 777 while in Vegas? OK, maybe it was just me... :teeth:

Pearlieq, let's hope that 777 brings you luck in Vegas, even if it's only in a post!

The scale is back down to 190! I really have to work hard these next few weeks to see it stay below that number permanently.

Amazingly, I did get through quite a bit of paper yesterday. Food was almost non-existant. I just got so busy, that I didn't stop to eat properly. But water was much better, not quite what it should be, but not bad.

AM snack missed. Lunch was around 2pm and I didn't have time, so I ate 4 slices of ham and a yogurt. Missed the PM snack. Supper was 1 bowl of chili. Later I had a few goldfish crackers and a little PB. Needless to say, I am very hungry today. But at least, that is an improvement over the last week, where I have felt over full most of the time.

Breakfast: 1 egg omelet w/gr pepper, mushroom & moz, oatmeal, yogurt
AM snack: banana
Lunch: salad
PM snack: cottage cheese & veggies
Supper: focaccia bread, sm bit of apple spice cake. I am not sure what else I am serving.

Goals for day:
1. Plan the rest of my food for the party tonight
2. Spiff up the house
3. 1 hr cleaning my office
4. bookwork

Things are slowly getting back on track. I even got off my vitamins for a bit, but have been doing better with getting them in lately.

Lot's to do. I have a Pampered Chef party tonight. Anyone want to place an order? ;) Other than that, I am trying to tie up loose ends and wade my way back to some sense of organization. To think, the outside world is always commenting on how organized I am. If only they knew. :rolleyes1

Everyone have a great and losing day! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Congrats on getting back down to 190!!! Good for you!

Glad to hear you got through a lot yesterday. That has to feel nice! I'm sure your body will balance out the fact that you didn't get much to eat. At least it sounds like what you ate was healthy and nourishing.

I hope you have a great time tonight! Enjoy the party!

189! AND the scale was flirting with 187.5! Hopefully, tomorrow. I would just like to move beyond.

Yesterday was so busy. I did some cleaning, planned for my party, prepared food (went for the Italian theme), and had fun mingling. That was all in the middle of 50 million phone calls. For some reason, when you don't have time to talk the phone rings constantly.

AM snack was missed. Lunch was salad w/turkey and craisins. PM snack was a few mint Milano cookies. :rolleyes1 I was taste testing, I had never had them before. Supper was small portions of everything: mostaccioli, salad, foccacia bread, a few grapes, a couple pieces of cheese, and apple spice cake. Very, very delish. Then I ate a few more cookies. Could be the reason why the scale only flirted with the lower numbers. ;)

Breakfast: oatmeal, 1 egg omelet w/mushrooms & moz, 2 slices ham
AM snack: banana
Lunch: salad & chili
PM snack: cheese & grapes
Supper: probably mostaccioli (we really need to make room in the fridge)

Goals for day:
1. drink lots of water
2. try to stay on plan

Sorry, got called away. Now plans for the day has changed. DH is in the middle of tearing off the roof and now we have to go help his aunt move. Very last minute. Wish my BIL was good to his word and could have made it out to finish the roof. So many things we are now in the middle of.

Today, I have lots of bookwork to finish for the bank, sales taxes, payroll, etc. I also need to get some other things out for GS. Fortunately, I see another person stepping up to head up some other areas in GS that need filling in my area. This is great news for me. Soon, I am hoping to hand off some of the extra tasks. :cool1:

I better get going. So much to do and so little time.

Everyone have a wonderful day! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo
