Hello :)

I haven't personally reviewed the Leslie Sansone Pilates DVD so I am only going by reviews that I've read, but most say it's a very challenging traditional pilates workout. With that said, I don't believe she offers enough modifications for some of the exercises to make it easier for true beginners. My recommendation, as a Pilates Instructor, is two fold. First I'd recommend purchasing the Pilates for Dummies DVD or any Stott Pilates DVD through Amazon. Also, if you are totally new to pilates, I'd suggest taking at least one class at a Pilates studio with a certified instructor so that you can have your form checked and the exercises demonstrated and explained in person. Usually classes are about $10-$15 for mat pilates. If you would like a reference to a good studio in your area just send me a PM and I'll help you fine one :).

The Pilates Method is a form of core exercise that focuses on the deeper layers of the abdominal muscles, focusing strongly on the transverse abdominals and obliques. It also works to maintain proper spinal alignment, integrating breath with movement, as you flow through a series of mat exercises. I like to say that it is a combination of calisthenics and yoga inspired exercises (without the yoga spiritual aspect) designed to strengthen and balance the core muscle groups. Most classes also focus on arm and leg toning as well.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

I would definitely recommend Pilates, I don't have the experience as Amy to be specific. I'd definitely trust what she is recommending. I'd say the core strengthening should be the place to start. Whatever you choose, don't feel you've got to do it all at the beginning. You may need to start out with whatever you can do, but you will be amazed how after a short time you will notice and feel the improvement.

Yoga to me is a good idea too, but I'd definitely recommend the core strengthening Pilates since every movement basically needs a strong core.

I'd love to hear what you've chosen and what you think.

I have never done yoga or pilates.....but I have several of Leslie Sansone's DVDs, and love them. I do a 3mi. walk away the pounds, every night and have had great results. Hmmmmmm, I may have to look into her yoga DVD.

I second the Pilates for Dummies DVD. It is great for beginners!
