My DS is going to receive his First Communion in May. As part of the preparations for first penance and Communion, the teachers have been talking alot about Lent. DS decided that he's going to be nice to my Mom and listen to everything that she tells him to do for 40 days.

His suggestion to me, for what I can do... don't make chicken for 40 days. He claims to hate chicken, but he eats it when I make it. He is looking forward to a meatless Wednesday and Fridays during Lent since he knows that they won't have any chicken served.

I told him that a bigger sacrifice would be for me to make chicken ever day except for Ash Wednesday and for Fridays and for him to eat it without any complaints. ::yes::

DD and I are both giving up meat for Lent, and DS is giving up PS2 (he also makes his first Communion in May).

I'm giving up desserts for Lent, which is what I always do every year. But in addition I'm going to make more of an effort to be positive, since I've been pretty grumpy lately :p

I am giving up sweets, but not my diet pop.

I'm giving up fast food (during midterms and our WDWCP presentation, plus all the preparation for both!), and volunteering on Saturdays at a women's shelter.

dessert(i might die) and tv on mondays and wednesdays not that i even watch much of it but my parents force me too because they think i watch to much tv...(any other day than wednesday! law & order is onq!!...they say i can record it and watching it a day late can be another sacrafice...gee how wonderful)

I'm giving up soda! Did this my freshman year of college, and couldn't believe how much more energy I felt I had!!! Giving it a shot b/c all i have been drinking lately is soda!

Chocolate. For me this will be enough of a struggle. I really need to include Pepsi.

To give up both will be a true sacrifice.

Mystery Machine, one year during college I gave up Pepsi and it was torture (which I guess is the point). It was really hard.

My DH and I used to give up meat during Lent. The first couple of years were OK.... then I got REALLY busy at work. DH doesn't cook and chicken and burgers are quick and easy. Meatless takes extra planning. The last time we did it, we made it half way through and I told him if he wanted to continue, he was welcome, but I was going to start cooking quick things. He'd be on his own. He quit, too.

I convinced my DS's to give up fighting with each other for Lent!

We talked it over and decided that it would mean more to Jesus for them to try to get along then to give up soda or candy.

Last year I gave up internet shopping. May not sound that bad, but it had become a real problem.:( It turned out to be very, very hard because I had a newborn baby and both of my children had birthdays during that time and it would have been so much easier if I could just order stuff on-line.

It's coming down to the wire on what I'll give up this year. The ultimate sacrifice at this point would be giving up the DIS.

I am giving up swearing (I admit, I have the mouth of a sailor). As a new year's resolution, and to better ourselves for the sake of our coming baby, we both gave up the f-bomb. Anytime it is muttered now, requires me/him to give the other a 2 minute backscratch. I have only slipped like 3 times. He is about 1x a day, which is SO much better than it used to be.

I am also going to give up sweets, I believe. Being pregnant, I really shouldn't be eating them anyway, instead snacking on fruit or something. So, giving it up for Lent will make it more bearable for me..
:bounce:

While I don't celebrate Lent (our religion believes that you celebrate Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection every Sunday -- I'm not a heathen! ;) ), my boss who is Catholic said he's considering giving up work for Lent! I may join in if that works! :p

I am giving up soda. I gave it up a couple of years ago and just recently started drinking it again. Just poured about 4 liters down the drain! Also, i figured here's a good chance to stop swearing. So, I'm adding that in, too.
DD (6) is giving up her Gameboy Advance SP. I told her all about Lent and why we give something up, and told her that on Easter she would be able to play with the Gameboy again, and she said, "Oh, yeah, cuz I'll get presents!!" Guess it's time to sit down and explain what Easter is all about again...LOL.

You do not have to fast/perform sacrifices on Sundays during Lent, becasue this is the day our Lord arose from the dead. These days do not count towards the 40 days of Lent.

I am planning on attending daily mass as well as giving up soda and sweets; but I can partake of these on Sundays.

I usually give up all sweets (the only sweet I have through these days is maple syrup) waffles/pancakes.... but I have decide I am going to give up my beer.

Love having my beer on the weekends(must come form being brought up in a house (full of Irish Males) but I will give up the 12 ounce curls for my Lord!

I will also try to be more forgiving, less nit picky, and do more random acts of kindness.

DD hasn't decided yet. We also give up meat on Ash Wednesday and the Fridays of Lent.
