We are going to Disneyland. I have a kit lens 18-135, and the nifty fifty. I was thinking about renting this one Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L as my walk around.

Thoughts suggestions

I think the 18-135 should be fine.

The 24-70 is quite heavy if you're not used to it.

Yes, that lens is in deed too heavy to cart around Disney. You have nice Disney with the 18-135mm. Wide enough and long enough.

While the 18-135 has good focal lengths for use at the parks, it is a little slow for lowlight. The key is a good strap that doesn't strain your neck. That's why I use the BR strap. I use a 28-70 f2.8 with a vertical grip on the body. If I had to use the OEM strap around my neck, I would agree, but with the BR it's not an issue. I also carry the 70-200 f2.8 with no problems. The only question, is the 24 going to be wide enough for you? The 28 was for me. I only had to switch to my 18-55 lens once or twice over the 9 day trip. I really didn't miss it.

the 24-70 is more of a walk around lens for a full frame model (which I presume you don't have if you use the 18-135). The 18-135 and 50mm 1.8 should be fine more most situations.

DH rented a 17-55 2.8 for indoor and low light pics this trip(6 days away). This and the 18-135 will be our walk around lenses.

We shoot with a Canon 50D and the 17-55 is highly recommended for crop cameras. Not sure on the weight, but he carries the camera anyway

Thanks, I will look into that one. I have a 60D. I was really wanting something what will be good for the indoor rides and low light.

If you are looking for lowlight and indoor rides then you will need a 2.8 lens. For the very dark rides,ie, Peter Pan, Haunted Mansion, etc., then a minimum 1.8 preferrably 1.4. I bought the Sigma 30mm 1.4 just for the very dark rides, otherwise, as I stated earlier, my 28-70 f2.8 was my walkaround. IMHO the 2.8 was much more important than wide. For my style, I really didn't have an issue and I don't believe I missed a shot that I wanted and I do use a APS-C camera.
