Lens Lust strikes again... (Sorry!)

I need some kind of counseling or support group, or at least someone to talk me down...

I've been looking for lenses to add to my kit, since DH has made off with my D60, my Nikkor 18-55 VR, 55-200 VR and is now making moves towards my Nikkor 35mm and my 50mm.

So, I got the 18-200mm Nikkor, and love it for an all purpose lens, but am also looking at the Nikkor 85mm f/1.8D AF, or the Nikkor 180mm f/2.8D ED-IF AF. I love primes more than zooms, and already have the Nikkor 35mm and the 105mm Macro. I'm shooting with the D90 now, and love it! I would use the lens, or lenses, primarily for art fairs, city shots, or the local Renaissance festival.

So which one should I get? I also could get both, and give one of them (Probably the 85mm) to DH as a Father's Day gift....

Any help, counseling, and/or the name of a good support group for my affliction would be great.

You should do it! Those primes sound like a lot of fun. Besides, if you don't, whenever you're at 85 or 180mm on your zoom, you'll just be wondering what it would be like on your prime, anyways.

Well, you really didn't help all that much!

But what you said is so true. And if I bought the 85mm I would always wonder about the 180mm and vice versa. And I'm not one to really zoom with the zoom, either. It usually just stays at one end and that's it. I know I'll use both ends of the 18-200, but that's really the only zoom I think I'll need.

I hope this is the end of lens lust for me.

No- and neither does the 180/2.8

There are two really good primes that do auto focus on the D40/D60 - the Nikkor 35mm AF-S and the Nikkor 50mm AF-S. Both of those lenses are really good and sharp. The 105mmVR that I mentioned will also auto focus on those two bodies, but it's kind of pricey.

Sounds like the perfect Fathers Day gift. (Just throw in a D90!)
