Well, if the button doesn't want to go, DON'T FORCE IT!! I think I broke my kit lens today(Canon Rebel XTi). I was in a hurry to take a picture of a moving steam engine, and didn't have time to work on the correct exposure in my mind, so I set the camera to a basic zone mode, and when the camera wasn't auto-focusing, I went to slide the button, and it didn't go. So I pushed it. I believe now that it is broken. So, does anyone have an opinion on these Tamron lenses?

I appreciate any input. Thanks.

You're lucky. I'm always looking for a reason to get a new lens. I haven't gone as far as breaking one, but who knows how low I might stoop some day.

Funny, not too much different than what DH said to me tonight...
Maybe subconsciously:confused3  ?

Since I posted, I've been all over the internet, and I fear I'm in a worse predicament now. Looking at Canon 28-135 IS. Will I use it? Who knows, but Canon also has a 28-105 (non IS) for nearly $300 less. DH is the "techie" in the family and enjoys research projects like these. I couldn't be far enough away, but I have to move on this, because my only other lens is a 75-300.

EEK
Didn't see that one. Thanks for that. On a bright note, it is a liitle cheaper than the 28-135. Still borderline crazy, in my humble, inexperienced, and newbie DSLR user opinion:goodvibes
Honestly, Andy, thank you for that suggestion. I am printing it out and adding to my husbands stack of specs to look over. Would you say you use it more than 50% of the time? I guess I should add that aside from any kind of practicing I can squeeze in to learn this thing, I take mostly shots of my son around the house, school functions and "sports" Quotes because he's 6, and they're just so darn cute at 6!!

One thing to consider is that starting at 28mm is not very wide. I would think that you would miss it. There are times that my 18mm is not wide enough for me and mine has a 1.5x crop factor where yours has a 1.6x one. I believe that many who have their primary lens starting around 24-28mm also keep a wider lens with them for when it is needed.
