Lens for Canon REbel

We purchased a Canon Rebel xsi 12.2. All we have is the lens that came with it. We know we need some sort of zoom lens. But also want the best lens for pics at disney.(night,parade,action,closeups). In your opinion what should be the lens i get?

Well that all depends on your budget. For night shots you will need a lens with a low f-stop (f number) You can get a Canon 50mm 1.8 for about 100 dollars or less. Its a cheap lens and compromises in focusing speed and build quality but for 100 bucks it takes pretty nice pictures.

For zooming the direct pairing to the kit lens is the Canon 55-250 IS. Here is a decent price on Amazon has a pretty decent price around $240 for this lens right now.

If money is not an issue. I'd get the Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS. This will allow you to replace your kit lens and afford you the freedom to take great pictures both indoors and out. However, this lens is very expensive at just under $1,000.

A great zoom would be in the 70-200mm range. You can pickup a Canon 70-200 f/4 for about $500 used or $600 new. If you want to get the IS version of this lens it will cost you over $1,000. I have the IS version of this lens and it was well worth the extra expense.

For a zoom lens most recommend the "nifty two fifty"....55-200. I personally have it and it is a wonderful lens.

I also agree the nifty fifty (50mm 1.8) is a great little lens. The price is amazing and it takes fantastic shots. You know how you look through the lens and sometimes the shot doesn't come out like you expect? Well on this lens you get what you see. $100 is usually the going price. Its unbeatable.
