I'm trying to decide between renting a Canon 24-70mm or 24-103. From what I read the 24-103 is lighter so it would be easier to carry around the parks, but for those who have used it, is the image quality as nice as the 24-70?
I have had both, and I have to say, the 24-70 is heavy. But, the image quality is superior. I don't mind the extra weight for the shots to be top notch.

Thanks for the quick reply!! I'm disappointed with the quality of my kit lens. Love the quality of the nifty fifty and looking for something close to it that wouldn't be fixed, would I be okay with the 24-103 or would I notice the lower image quality?
I own the Canon 24-105mm f 4.0 IS and carry it in the parks. I have shot the 24-70mm f2.8 indoors for sport and portrait. I think the images on the 24-70mm are a tad sharper. Personal observation not tested.
You cannot go wrong with either. You need to consider what you like to shoot. Lenses are tools.
The extra speed in the 24-70mm can help with action. The extra stops will help with moving subjects in low light and to blur backgrounds on portraits.
The 24-105 is more versatile. Longer reach and IS for night shots of stationary subjects. Plenty fast for daylight.
I use primes like 50mm 1.2 to compliment my 24-105mm when I need more speed, sharpness, etc.
