We are planning going to DW and Universal this fall. I had booked 3 nights at Universal and 6 at Disney but w/ the FTP, I was thinking about changing to 7 nights at Disney and 2 nights at Universal. Do you guys think that would be enough time at Universal? I'm trying to weigh the options. We have a "room only" reservation but figured I really would not save much switching to the FTP but we would have the UPH instead of 4 or 5 day hoppers. Thanks.

We did 2 nights @ Universal between Xmas and NY one year, and it was enough time for us to do what we wanted at both Universal Studios and the Islands of Adventure. If you are staying at a Universal hotel I think you will get Front of the Line access (similar to FastPass but you don't need a pass with a time on it, you just get in the fast line whenever you feel like it) which is a wonderful timesaver. You don't even have to juggle assigned times-- it's great. If it's the fall, crowds may not be that big either which will make it easier. So I think I would go for the FTP. Those UPHs are really hard to pass up.

That was our situation too. We planned on 3 nights at Portofino and 5 night at WL at the end of August. We switched in a heartbeat. We're now doing 2 at Portofino and 6 at Disney. When we factored in the water parks and Disney Quest with the ft package, it was too good to pass up! We've done Universal Studios before {frankly there were probably a handful of things there that we'd do again} so we'll do Universal when we arrive around 1:00 and do IOA the next full day. We're also going back to IOA for most of the 3rd day since we can't get into our room at WL until later in the afternoon.

We were in the same situation. We opted for 2 nights HRH and then 7 nights Disney with FTP. I think Disney is trying to get the business back from those taking it and they are doing a good job of it with FTP.

Thanks guys, I'm really leaning towards Universal 2 nights and Disney 7. I just hope we don't get there and regret not staying longer at Universal.

ls1222, I'm going to move this to our Universal/Islands of Adventure board, for you.

The experts over there can advise you about how long to allow for touring these parks.

If you stay onsite at Universal for two nights, you will get three days worth of automatic express access. That should give you time to do the things you want to do.
