Legoland + Alamo + CCC = Head Spinning

Alright, I've read a ton of threads and posts. And I can't quite wrap my head around how this will work: staying at CSR, day trip to Legoland, renting a car (not sure who to go with), keeping car until 9:00'ish pm, and how to do this with the least amount of screwing around.

I would recommend taking a taxi to the Dolphin Hotel where there is an Alamo/National location, it's only 1.5 miles so fare should be less than $10, You can also return the car there after hours and then taxi back to CSR. The location opens at 8:00am daily.
It will certainly be the quickest and the least amount of "screwing around" as you put it. You won't have to wait around for someone to pick you up and return you to your resort after returning the car.
Of course you could also take a cab to other rental locations but at considerable more cost, other ones are at the CCC or in the DTD area hotels. Most offer pickup and dropoff service but at their schedule not yours.
