I stayed at the POP this month and my room overlooked the lake and the Legendary Years. While enjoying my morning coffee (and smoke) I met quite a few employees that were using the back trail to go to and from where they needed to be. I struck up a coversation with a nice man that worked there and was asking about it. He said post 9/11 plans for it just stopped. Every year they are supposed to continue but it continues to be backed up.

I asked about the trailers there in the parking area and I sort of wondered out loud if it may become part of the vacation club and he just smiled and said maybe... Then later I was talking to a manager of something who was asking about the rooms and things and I mentioned it to him because my curiousity was peaked. Once again I mentioned about the vacation club and how I may have heard a rumor. He said the plan for LY may not fit in too well now and it could a possibility and encouraged me to stop by the DVC location in the main building.

What do you guys think? Is there a present rumor of this? I just think it's a romantic dream of what LY could have been and am interested in it....

Thanks for your thoughts on the subject?

One time, at band camp a busdriver told me . . . . . .

The DVC is just for deluxe resorts and it won't ever go to value resorts. It would devalue the entire club, this is the same reason you can't use your points at value resorts in the Disney collection, only moderate and deluxe resorts without villas.

I do wish they would do something with the Legendary Years though. It seems very un-Disney to just leave it like it is. When I was a CM going through training I was told that the buildings were so overgrown and in violation of so many health code sections that they can't just pick up and start building again. It's too expensive to get the buildings cleaned up to the point where building could continue and it's too expensive to tear them down.

Who knows what's going to happen, but I sure hope something does. I hate to burst your bubble, but DVC is not even in the realm of possibility, it just wouldn't work for value resorts. You'll see DVC at moderate resorts before you'll see it at values, and I highly doubt that will ever happen either.

I thought it was strange too. I am not getting DVC as it just doesn't make sense for me to so that isn't an issue - I wasn't even considering it.

It is a shame that it is just sitting there - I do hope they decide to do something wonderful with it. :)

Rumors have been swirling since I joined the DIS ... and that wasn't yesterday.

Currently the area is used as a staging area for construction, maintenance and landscaping staff for properties throughout the Disney resort. That means that all kinds of trucks, equipment etc.. get parked there when not needed or while a job is being worked.

There have been trailers there filled with mattresses destined for All Star and Pop Century resorts for example.

Reports of an earth moving bulldozer actually moving earth over there got lots of people excited only to find out that it was to build and later destroy a track for a 'BMX Bike' challenge that was held on that ground.

I can't see a DVC property over there and of course there was the Jim Hill rumor of the Disney Animation Inn & Suites but nothing seems to have come of that either.

I've been following this pretty closely and can honestly tell you that I just don't think anything is going to happen there until at least mid-2010 - if at all. If the economy sees recovery in the near future then Disney might see the need to expand value accommodations... and they might try to get that done by mid-2011.

But then again.. there were a lot of ifs and maybes in the last paragraph.

I am shocked that something Jim Hill said didn't come true... ;)

The "Value DVC" thing has been debated at many levels, and most believe that it is highly unlikely as it would be rather difficult to fit something like that into the system.

As for finishing POP, Disney will do it when they forecast a need for more Value rooms, and apparently they haven't seen the need yet. As it is they are taking overflow from the Value rooms during promotions and sticking them in the empty rooms over at OKW and SSR.

I thought you could no longer smoke on Disney property. Were you breaking the rules?

When would this have gone into effect? I am a non smoker, so it's not really a big deal to me either way, but when I was at WDW in August there were a lot of people smoking at the resorts and in what seemed to be designated areas at the parks

It's been in effect for a while now. There are no more smoking rooms on Disney property. You are also NOT supposed to smoke on the balconies or in any guest room. The original poster was not clear as to where he was smoking. Can't figure if he was on his balcony or walking down a path or something.

POP does not have personal balconies, but the walkways at each level surround the building and could be considered such. I don't know if any part of them are considered a designated smoking area though.

Oh boy, here we go.

So the other day I was taking my smokes and my 2003 refillable mug over to the Wilderness Lodge pool so I could relax after cooking dinner for all six of us that were staying in a room together at Pop Century....

He didn't spell out WHERE he was smoking so you take it upon yourself to be the cop and investigate? That's really overstepping IMO.

All right you two, if you don't stop it now I'm going to turn this ECV around and drive it right on to IASW, and we will just keep riding it over and over and over...

I'm done. I have W-A-A-A-Y more important things to do.

FYI: At POP Century, along the walkways along the lake area, there are several benches that have trash cans next to them that have recepticals on the top of the trash can for depositiing cigarette butts. DH sat on one of these benches outside bldg 5 of the 60's section several times a day.
There are benches without these trash can/cigarette recepticals so if you don't smoke, you do have a place to sit away from any smokers. Evidently, you are not to smoke anywhere in the resort but in the vacinity of those benches with the recepticals, which was fine with DH as he throughly enjoyed the view.
