Leg Cast on Aquaduck

Wouldn't you freaking know it? My son tore a ligament in his ankle at school yesterday and now has a cast on.

It is a walking cast so doesn't need crutches or anything.

The doc is going to put a waterproof cast on him the day before the cruise, however, will they allow him on the Aquaduck?

He is already bummed.

I'm sorry to hear about your son's recent accident and believe me I have been there myself. In any event I would have to say your son's chances of being able to get on the AquaDunk are very slim. For one the possibility and liability of causing more damage to your son's tore ligament and two this cast could cause damage/scratches to the clear plexiglass material. It's a bummer but I hope your son still has fun on his cruise.

None of us here has the answer. All we can do is guess, based on our own opinions. Even if some have or have not been allowed on with a cast in the past, every person is different and we do not know what the criteria is for allowing or not allowing someone on the ride. What you need to do is call DCL, or better yet, wait until you get on the ship and ask the Cast members loading the ride. THEY are probably the only ones who know the definitive answer for you. The rest (and all the replies you get here) will be speculation.

My son broke his arm 2 weeks before our cruise. He had a waterproof cast. I called DCL and our TA and neither of them could find an official policy about casts on the Aquaduck. Both of them said it would probably be up to the attendant at the ride to decide. They did let me son on the Aquaduck because he was able to hold on to the handles even with the cast. Good Luck!

But, the good news is your sons injury was not as bad as it could have been !!!
If not being able to go on the Aquaduck is the worst thing to happen, all is not to bad!! Enjoy your cruise

I would think it'll be up to the CM at the the slide however with it being one where the legs are stretched out in front, I'd be afraid of further injury if he bumped it the wrong or something. Hopefully he'll still have fun. We went on a trip to Colrado 2 weeks after my DD broke her arm and she still had a great time despite a few limitations.

Be careful at the beach. we were always advised swimming ok but beach bad b/c sand can get in cast and really become uncomfortable and damage skin as rubs. You might be able to think on it (and google) and come up with some breathable something or other (gortex?) that could cover it to keep sand out.

My daughter broke her arm several weeks before our cruise. We purchased a water proof cover from our local medical store and it was great ! She was allowed to go on the aqua duck no problem, however as the other posters said, a leg might be different.
We elected not to get the waterproof cast at the recommendation of others as well as our orthopedic surgeon. From what we understand, the cast is not waterproof persay, it just can get wet, and is designed to dry quicker. The problem is that the skin still gets wet on the inside, and becuase it is not exposed immediately to air, it takes a while to dry. That is what causes the itch, and sometimes infection, and a stinky cast. Its even worse when you mix that moisture with sand inside the cast !
My daughters cast was fiberglass. It would not be the end of the world if it got wet but we took every precaution to keep it dry. The cast cover worked beautifully. She swam in the ocean and helped with showers, and had no sand.
She got a brand new cast right before our cruise and then had all the characters sign her cast instead of an autograph book. Even the captain signed. When we had it removed it was not smelly because we had kept it dry, and because she only had the characters sign, it has become a great souvenir. It definately become a talking point and made the teip a little more special for her despite the injury. Have a wonderful cruise !.

I was just curious as to the resolution of this. Was he allowed to ride? My daughter broke her leg last week and is currently in a cast. Her estimated time in the cast is 6-8 weeks and we leave in 6 weeks on a Halloween cruise on the Dream. Hopefully she will be out of the cast completely but I'm wondering if she has a short (waterproof or covered) cast if she will be allowed to ride the aquaduck. Please understand, there is no way we will consider it if it doesn't appear healed or if her orthopedist doesn't feel it's safe. Thanks

We purchased a vaccum waterproof cast cover and they were fine with him going on. The dr. said he would be fine and no one on the cruise even blinked.
