So who else has heard this phrase used before? It could apply to things from opening bottles, unscrewing screws, etc. I was shocked when our neighbor professed that she's never ever heard it before....

I didn't hear of it til my dh taught it to my boys when they were like 6yo. I"m so clueless.

Yep, I've heard of it. I think it has been around a long, long time...but people don't seem to say that any more.

On the other hand....your siggy picture is GREAT! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Use it pretty much all the time.

I always use, "If you don't turn it right off, it will be left on."

Thats the only way I remember how to unscrew a lightbulb or screw. lol

Yup, I use it often. Someone taught it to me in college or shortly thereafter.

Of course, "lefty loosy, righty tighty" really messes with you when you're dealing with oppositely threaded screws -- I ran into them a few times working as manufacturing engineer.

OMG!! Is that what that means??!

And here I thought it was a slur against left-handed people!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

But seriously, yes, I've heard it before, in the proper context. But not very often.

I never heard of it until about 3 years ago. And now I use it all the time. Though I have found an ocasion or two where it was actually righty loosey, lefty tighty.

That's the only way I can remember which way to unscrew a screw :)

I've never heard it before now! :confused3

My Dad taught me that when I was a little girl. I never forgot it.

I learned this ages ago too. I was shocked to when my father-in-law who is the home-improvement king asked me what it meant. I guess "professionals" don't have to use it. But it's gotten me out of a couple tight spots.

I use it all the time too! It comes in very handy when doing home projects LOL.

Learned it years ago also. Works great except for the times some manufacturer puts left handed threads on a tire.

I know there is a joke there somewhere

I'm 39 years old and honestly I never heard of it.
