Leftover credits

I just used the Disney Dining Calculator, entered all of our ADRs for our trip and it's showing that we will have 5 entitlements remaining. We're getting the DxDP but won't be having breakfast/lunch onsite the day we arrive, lunch/dinner the day we depart, and we're going to afternoon tea which isn't part of the DxDP. We're also thinking about ordering pizza (offsite) for the kids the night DH and I go to Narcoossee's. If we do that, we will have 6 entitlements remaining at the end of our trip. I read that they can be converted into snack credits, but I was wondering if my son could order 2 children's meals. Our twins will be just shy of their 3rd birthday when we go, so they aren't on the DxDP. We have a number of buffets/family style meals planned but we will be going to some quick services places, and a couple of traditional table service places so we were going to pay OOP for anything we ordered for them there. Since we will have these extra entitlements, could we order 2 kid's meals for my 5 yr old son and then have the twins share one? We do that a lot at home anyway since the three of them aren't big eaters and like to try different things - outside of breakfast it's rare that any of them will eat a full kid's meal - not even at McDonald's. We're paying for the entitlements (no free dining) and I'd hate to waste them, but didn't know if it was against the rules to do it that way.

In general they will not allow you to order more meals on DDP than you have people actually using the plan. You appear to have four people using the plan, so if you get a stickler for rules they will let you use DDP to pay for only four meals, one being a child's meal, in any one transaction. You will have to ask if the restaurant you are at will allow this.

It will be at the digression of the cast member waiting on you. We have been able to order an extra meal by getting separate checks in the past.

Why not order room service for the kids on your Narcoossee night?

We are considering that but will have to see what's on the room service menu. I don't think that would use all of the entitlements though, so we'll still have some left over. I'll ask at the restaurants and see what they say.

So we are doing DxDDP and think we may have 1 or 2 meal credits left over. Can we convert them to snack credits?
I thought this was permitted in the past.....

We were able to during our August trip. We were only given one snack per left over meal credit, which obviously is not a good value, but still better to come home with a few bags of Goofy Co. candy then have them go to complete waste.

Will you have 5 or 6 dining credits left per person or in total? If a restaurant allows you to use the credits for additional children's meals, it will be fairly expensive when using an adult's credit for a child's meal. At counter service venues you can go back and order the second child's meal as a separate transaction. At TS restaurants it will depend on the server and venue if they will accommodate your request.

Perhaps. Allowing conversion of leftover credits for snacks isn't specifically stated in the dining plan brochures. The most success has been at the food courts at the resorts, but it will depend on the castmember and the food venue. Some CMs won't allow it. Likewise the ratio will vary between 1-2-3 snacks per dining credit. Others will only allow a continental meal as a conversion (1 savory, 1 sweet and a beverage per credit).
