OK, gang I need help. I fell and broke my leg a week ago. 3 breaks. I never do things half way.
What rides can be stopped for me to get on? I cannot transfer from the wheelchair without help. Absolutely no walking. I do have a walker for a few hops. And I mean hops. No weight bearing allowed for 2 months minimum.

So what can I do and what will I miss?

First of all, I am REALLY sorry about your leg! Hope you are not in too much pain! Glad to hear that you are not cancelling your trip. Almost all the rides will stop for you to get on, even continuous moving rides like Haunted Mansion, Spaceship Earth, Peter Pan's ride, Buzz, etc. As a matter of fact, I am having a hard time thinking of any that WON'T stop the ride for you. Can you bend your knee or does the cast go up over the knee? If you cannot bend the knee, and your leg is completely extended, then you will have problems fitting on the rides, since there will be no room for your leg. I would think the hardest things will be the really bumpy rides, where you are bounced around alot, like Dinosaur and Kiliminjaro Safari in AK and perhaps Star Tours (MGM) and Body Wars (EPCOT), but then it will really depend on your pain. I would be careful on those rides. Also, I would avoid the river rapids (AK) and Splash Mountain (MK) cause you will get the cast wet!

I will be leaving on Thurs. too! Have a great time! :-)

I read the heading for your question and was all ready to say "aren't you lucky because you're leaving in a few days" , then I read the question.
Here's LOTS of Pixie Dust for you!!!
If this works right, it should lead you to the official WDW FAQ page which includes a list of rides you can go on in a full leg cast.
Some of the rides that can stop (like Spaceship Earth) don't have big enough doors to get in easily. The only ride I can think of that can't stop is Peter Pan, but it might still be hard to get in because there really isn't anywhere to hold on when you get on.
Sorry to say, Lisa, but you might be better off stivking to those rides/shows where you can stay in your wheelchair this time.
You'll have a great time anyway. Have fun.

About a year ago we were with some friends, where the wife had broken her ankle ten days before the trip and had her leg in a cast. She was able to use an ECV rather than a wheelchair, and use crutches otherwise.

The only rides she could not get into were those with very close and tight seating, such as Space Mountain. Any of the continuous attractions can be stopped.

If you are not used to a wheelchair, you might want to consider use of an ECV.

As an aside, since you are in a cast, you might want to have the person who put it on you draw a line with a marker where it will be sawn off. Then bring a "Sharpie" type marker pen with you and have the Characters sign the cast. Warn them when signing to not cross the line. After the cast is removed you will have an interesting souvenier.

Neat idea. I have to see the doc before I leave and will ask him to do that. Think Lime green would be a good colour? :D
I am used to my power wheelchair so that will be my means of transportation. This is the first time I have been totally unable to walk. Forearm canes and my balance are not a good thing! I have little upper body strength also. With the walker my arms are so sore you would not believe.
The cast is only below the knee so that will not pose a problem. I will stay off rough rides and mainly do easy stuff and shows. And I intend to have a blast.

I hope you have great time and everyone is careful not to bump into you!!!

Can't wait to see your egg finally hatch!

Sue

Lisa,
You don't have to do first hand research for the disAbility board!! You will be our resident expert in so many fields!
Really, I'm sorry to hear of your accident and send lots of PD to you.
Have a great trip in spite of the cast. Your hands will be flying explaining to everyone what happened.

Sorry to hear about your broken leg. Glad to read thought that you are still planning to go to WDW - good medicine! Try not to think of this trip as missing anything, but enjoying it from a different perspective. This may be a good time to enjoy more of the shows & entertainment than attractions throughout WDW. Have fun anyway you can!

Lisa, in case you are still around the boards before you leave for WDW, I just wanted to wish you a great trip.
