Leaving the parks mid day in June or not?

I see a lot of people suggesting to get to the parks for RD, then plan to leave for mid day, returning at dinner time and stay till close. I like the idea and we've done it a few times in the past, but I worry with this being our first vacation we've done to WDW in June...will parks get too crowded that we won't be able to get back in?? We are there from June 12-21...most days look like they are going to be quite crowded...8's on average.

I read somewhere...touring plans or maybe it was on undercover tourist that if crowd levels are a 7 or above not to leave the park because of the high crowds transportation takes longer to get to and from and the chance of not being admitted back in when you return.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

We are going in June and intend to escape the heat with a swim break every day. The chance of being denied reentry is tiny, and frankly if the parks ever get that crowded I don't want to be there anyway!

You could go in morning and stay till late afternoon/eary evening till your burnt out with crowds and heat/humidity then spend evening at resort where kids can play pool games and catch the movie poolside.

or

hit a lot of rides in morning, leave by 1 pm and come back in evening. We mix it up on our trips.

We always leave for a mid-day break and are always there at high crowd periods. We left for mid-day breaks over spring break this year, and had no trouble traveling or getting back in. The only times I would be hesitant to leave unless it wouldn't matter if I got back in would be on 10 days where there is a threatened closure. (4th of July, Easter, Christmas, etc.) but on those days it is soooo crowded by mid-afternoon that I am usually running for the exit anyway. :)

We've been to Disney in June and never had a problem getting back into the parks. The higher crowd levels make it especially important that you not get overheated or over-agitated. That midday break to cool off and regroup could be the difference between an enjoyable trip and a frustrating one.

Even if the crowd levels are higher than usual, there is a tiered system for closing the entrance. When parks near capacity, the first closure is for day guests, so if you're staying on property, you will still be able to get in. :thumbsup2

If the buses have a long wait, it's often worth it to pay for a cab. We did that quite a few times. In my mind, it was worth the investment if our schedule was tight or the kids were just too beat..... THey are always around and it's not expensive.

We were there at the same time as you last year and will be there again this year about the same time. We took a break every day and had no problem.

It just gets too hot and it was nice to cool down in the pool or our room, get refreshed and then hit the parks again. I think it will be even more important if there are lines outside in the hot sun waiting to get into the FP+ queues. (That is something I am really nervous about).

We always get an early start and take mid day breaks. Kids love the swim & resort time.

There is no way that you're not going to get back in. Absolutely zero chance of staged closures in June.

We actually find the mid-day break more exhausting, but it seems that we're in the minority.

I would never do a summer trip without a mid-day break. It's too hot, the sun is too strong, and the other guests seem to be super crabby. There is just no way I could handle being in the park during peak sun/heat times in the summer.

The only summer dates I've ever heard of having capacity closures are around the 4th of July. An average summer day will be crowded, but not closed to capacity crowded.

We were there about the same time last year. The waits were crazy long to get onto anything to get back to resorts, so I have to agree with what you read. I'd imagine taking a midday break you would need to add almost 1 1/2 or two hours on for getting to and from the parks based on the waits we saw posted our entire trip (unless you are at deluxe really close to the park)...so if you plan to hang for 2 hours back at the resort it will be 3 1/2 to 4 hours of your day. Will you have a car? We were offsite and planned meals at the resort closest to the park we were at so we could valet our car there for the day. We found this to be a great strategy...so if you have a car with you may want to try that. My brother was able to come and go very easily(WH so they could get back to the house in about 15 minutes). You just keep your valet pass so you can get back it...it is good for the whole day.

The parks more than likely won't close in June. It usually takes Christmas, thanksgiving, Easter, or spring break.

I think you will be surprised at how manageable crowds are in June.

Ok now I'm wondering if we should take a break midday the last week of May. About what time do you leave for your midday break ?
I did have it planned we would do everything then leave around 4:00 and go to the resort the rest of the day . Is this a bad plan ? I may change it but not sure how getting up way early for RD then going back at night and getting to bed late is going to work out. I dont want us to be worn out getting up early and going to bed late. Any suggestions or opinions ?

My family and I traveled to Disney last year almost the same dates as you! We totally did midday breaks. We would make rope drop and leave by 1ish. It was seriously so hot that we would need some time to cool off and get refreshed. We stayed BLT so I felt that a lot of time wasn't wasted with a break in the afternoon...but that's just my opinion. Even with crowd levels at 8 we walked onto a lot of rides but that was with making rope drop. Not sure if this has changed cuz of fastpass+. Anyways, hope you have a wonderful trip!

I think it all depends on what works best for you. Since our kids were little (they are 18 and 14 now), we have always taken a break. It started out as for naps, progressed into a rest and/or swim. We still do it. We do RD, so we are ready for a break in the early afternoon. We hit the resort when the parks are at their most crowded. We go back in the late afternoon for a more relaxed evening.

I don't think it is a bad plan at all. It is really crowded, but we had no problems riding anything(even multiple times). We were first in the park and like I said my younger was done by 2(we could have stretched it longer, but since my mom was there she just took him). My older two made it in the park longer. Usually between 7 until after fireworks, but there was the one day my then 6yr old wanted to leave. The heat is a factor, but we had no long waits so it made it more tolerable. The crowds seemed to peak between 4-7 so if you take a break it would seem to be best around then if you do. Personally, for our family I'd rather stay longer and not come back. Once we are in pool relax mode we stay there:goodvibes

We went the last two weeks in June last year. We were at the park every day for Rope Drop and left by 1 PM every day. We returned to the park every evening between 5-7 for dinner. There was ZERO traffic coming back into the parks at those times and it was easy and quick getting back. The only issue we had was going against the tide of people leaving the parks.

We used to be all day commando types so I was not so sure we would want to leave the parks for hours each day but after trying it once I would say this is the only way to go during the summer months.

Yeah I was thinking when it gets hot and crowded in the middle of the day make dining reservations and do things that dont have long waits but have air conditoning like the Hall of Presidents, Stitches Great Escape, or American Idol. Do all the popular rides in the morning and use fastpass+ inbetween 10:30 and 12:00. Well actually I dont like Stitches Great Esape lol so change to Monster Laugh Floor. Our MK day we planned to stay all day and then see the fireworks, they rest we plan on leaving around 4:00. Not sure yet. Juggling around the fastpasses makes it a little harder.

So how early does everyone leave to get there by rope drop ? Hour and half before opening? We have always gone to Disney at lower crowd levels so we didnt not worry about getting there by rope drop. This year I know it is going to be more crowded memorial day week so I'm trying to be prepared.

It depends on if we are doing Disney bus or driving ourselves. We leave the room earlier if we are relying on Disney bus. You never know how long you will have to wait on one! We usually leave the room about 45 minutes before RD. Driving from resort, that usually gets us at the entrance about 15-30 minutes before opening. We have never left an hour and a half before. Now, we usually go in late May/early June, so that might make a difference in how much earlier you need to leave.
