We are leaving on Saturday, Nov. 1. I am a little concerned with the wildfires being so close to Disneyland. Does anyone know what the air quality is like, and if flights are being delayed into JWA? Thanks in advance!

Not just delayed, but depending on what air line you are flying there may not BE a flight. Several have cancelled their flights in and out of southern California. -- I would guess (and hope) that things will change by next week though.

As far as air quallity, I'm not in that area and while the air qualiity is pretty bad where I'm at I imagine it's not so bad there that you would want to cancel your trip. There aren't any fires in the immediate area and Disneyland isn't in a valley that would trap outside smoke.

Ash was falling like snow all over OC over the weekend. The forecast is for cooler temps and less wind as the week goes on so the firefighter should start getting the upperhand and getting the fires contained. If the Santa Ana conditions diminish and OC starts seeing an offshore air flow, the air in the area should clean out quickly and return to more pleasant air quality. You'll see the smoke, but you won't be breathing it as it will be pushed in a more easterly direction.

Hi puffkin,
We are in the same boat. I fly in on Sun. I called the Airlines (American Airlines) today. We are flying into John Wayne airport. I was told that American has only canceled 1 flight into LAX, and that was this morning. What they try to do is fly close and over the ocean to get in behind the fires. I am very concerned about this because I have been planning this trip for 18 months. Goodluck with your flight.
Pam

It looks like the weather people are saying that the winds should change from Santa Ana winds to our normal on shore breeze. Also, the temperatures (now in the 90's) will plummet to the low 60's for the high during the days. Hopefully, that will mean the ash will be gone. It looked like a "nuclear winter" around Anaheim this last weekend. The sky was orange and it was hard to breathe. Let's all pray that the ones that lost their homes or were displaced make it okay. (and the families of the people killed and the firemen and fireladies bravely fighting these wildfires.)

Thanks for the replies everyone. It looks like things are slowly starting to improve. Hopefully the firefighters are able to get the upperhand today so that no more homes are destroyed. Have a great time Pamkass. Maybe we'll see you there:)

Any updates for today? We also leave Saturday and are considering postponing our trip. It is the first one for the kids and we've been waiting over 4 years for this. :( I think we'll wait until Thursday to decide. Anyone in the area, please keep us updated. Thanks, Tammi.

Well, it is sad that I have to report that the fires are getting worse....much worse.
Today, Anaheim was again covered in ash and the sun was pretty much orange all day.
They are calling this fire "the worst disaster to ever hit California."

Here are a couple of things to remember, though:

Disneyland is not on fire and is not threatened by fire at this time.

The ash is a nuisance but it is not worth cancelling a trip over, IMHO.

Doctors are telling people not to do any physical labor or exercise outside. Walking around DL should be okay.

You might not want to wait in a whole bunch of long, outdoor lines and you might have red eyes at the end of the day but you should be able to have a good time.

I'll keep you posted on the Anaheim conditions.

Roy

Thankyou for keeping us posted on the conditions, but what about flying into John Wayne airport? Please give us as much news as you can.
Thanks Again

I asked my wife to check John Wayne Airport for anything that may affect your flight (she's a pilot) and she said that the only problem would be some sort of a delay. She's hearing anywhere from 1/2 of an hour to 2 hour delays into the SoCal major airports. The TRACON guys and gals in San Diego had to evacuate their building because fires literally came up to their doorstep. That has really put a crimp in the air traffic control flow pattern but, it is recovering. (TRACON is the FAA radar facilities)

Check your flight information and keep track of how late the flights are. This will give you an idea of how late your flight might be.

(We have a little dew tonight and a slight on shore breeze here in Anaheim. Right now, (9:00pm) there doesn't seem to be any ash falling and I can't smell as much smoke.)

I have good news. We just came back from DLR and the situation has greatly improved! (not with the parks, but the fires! ;-)

There is no longer any ash to speak of raining down and the air smells pretty clean.
I think that any of you that have trips planned for the next few days should be fine. Also, my wife tells me that the air traffic control delays are evening out and you shouldn't have too much of a delay at either LAX or John Wayne. (Ontario might be another story)

So, come and enjoy yourselves!

Roy,
Thanks for all of the info! We were supposed to drive out to CA yesterday from Vegas, and decided against it. I am happy to hear that the conditions have improved. I hope everyone who does make it to Disneyland has a wonderful time!

thanks for the updates roymccoy. It is so hard to tell what is going on from Pennsylvania. I have been checking our flight everyday, and it has gotten there on time since Monday, so hopefully we won't have a problem. thanks again for the update, we are anxiously awaiting Saturday:teeth:

thank you SO much for the updates.
We've been flollowing things closely.
We still have awhile before our trip.....but don't want any surprises.

Our prayers and best wishes are with all the people that have lost their homes and/or loved ones. So sad!! :(
Here's hoping things continue to improve.

<font color=navy>There is a definite change today with the offshore breeze blowing the air to the mountains, not from the mountains.

Keep in mind that it MIGHT drizzle a bit. Even if it doesn't drizzle, we're expecting cooler temps - maybe high 60s to low 70s - this weekend. It should be great at the resort. :)
