We'll be heading down to Florida on August 2. 5 of us -- puting DD15, DDBFF15, and DS23 in deluxe bedroom, and DH and I will have roommette. I didn't book till about 6 weeks ago, and the bedroom costs were insane. About the same to put the 3 of them in a bedroom as to get 2 more roommettes.
This will be our 6th trip on the auto-train. Used to do coach happily when we were younger.
Now really like to stretch out, and appreciate the chance to take a shower.
What we take on board: own pillows; small fleece blanket (even though amtrak has blankets); sweater or hoodie, since it is often freezing in the dining car; toiletries and shower stuff for me and DH. Dollar bills for tipping in dining car and in the lounge. Water bottle, diet pepsi, and tea bags or Starbucks Via for me -- if going 1st class, you will get a small bottle of water; the water on board usually tastes stale. The coffee in the dining car is sort of okay. Not as bad as Disney's "special recipe". The coffee in the cars in the early am is usually pretty bad. Easy on and off shoes.
Our various amusements: iPad and books for DH and me. I let the brood use my laptop to watch movies, and listen to music.
