so this will be our 9th Disney cruise but our very first from somewhere other than Florida. Next Saturday we’ll be leaving on an 8 night Marvel cruise out of our home port of New York City. So I know the temps will be cool when we leave and will get warmer as we go south but I’m curious if anyone has ever left on a fall cruise from up north? How cool will it be? Are the pools on the ship heated? Are the waters rougher up north? How is the temp at castaway cay? Any advice or tips would be appreciated.

Wow I can't imagine leaving out of a home port!! So fun! They do heat the pools on the Magic. On the Wonder it was fun swimming while it was cool out and the pools were quite warm.

I've never been on an up north to south, but on our Alaskan cruise this summer it was in the 70's in Vancouver and got colder as we went north. Bring layers was the best advice we got. So think t-shirt, pull over sweatshirt and light jacket then you can add or remove as needed. I'm not sure if they will provide blankets on the top deck but on the Alaskan cruise they do so you are nice and warm if you decide to watch a movie on funnel vission. I hope you have a great time!!!!

We leave tomorrow. It's going to be 35-45 degrees as we pull out! So bundled up. Curious at what point it'll turn and start warming up. Any ideas? I'm thinking maybe the second sea day

I'm not sure of the weather farther north, but here in Florida it's not cold at all. It's been in the 80s everyday. I'd say by the time you get near here you won't need any winter type clothes and will have no problem swimming in Castaway Cay.

Coming out of New York will probably be chilly. Temps in Florida and the Bahamas will be 70s and 80s. Swimming is another matter. As ocean temperatures drop below 80ºF, some find the water too cool. The pools on board are heated.

OP please post and let us know how it goes. I’m excited to hear about this cruise.

My kids really enjoyed swimming in the warm pool while the outside air was cold. Just make sure to have a coverup handy when you get out and dry off. It won't be a time for lounging in wet swimwear. Enjoy your cruise.

Sorry I can't help too much on the weather. We were on the Magic that left Oct 21 - but we went to Canada and not down south. After that cruise we flew to WDW and it was colder there for the first two days than it was in any of our Canadian ports, LOL. It was that week we got the freakishly warm weather - 75 degrees on the day we left NYC! Yes some people were using the pools on the ship the day we left but throughout the cruise when we were at sea it was a bit too windy for us to use the pools much. The hot tubs got a lot of use and people laid out with blankets and watched funnel vision with hot chocolate. Not a bad thing either :)
Have a MARVEL-lous cruise! We sure did! BTW, if you have any questions on MDAS I can probably help out. I got to meet all the characters except for Groot as I didn't get tickets for him.

We've sailed many times from NYC in late fall and winter from NYC area (technically Bayonne, NJ since it was with RCCL). It gets warmer by middle of the first sea day but instead of wearing winter gear, you'll likely need a light sweater or a long sleeve shirt as you roam the upper decks. On the second sea day you will be able to walk around in t-shirts. The seas are usually pretty calm during this time of the year so your sailing should be smooth. Have fun!

I live in New York and LOVE leaving from NYC for our cruises. We have done it several times most recently 10/14/17 on a 7 day MDAS cruise to the Bahamas.

Today we are getting an arctic blast so we woke up to temps in 20's and will not get much above mid 30's through the weekend. Pack warm clothes for the first and last sea days for sure. We were lucky in October as we had pool weather first day out at sea as we had an unusual warm spell.

Pools are heated are there were many people by all the pool everyday of our cruise.

Can’t wait only 7 days

Curious how the seas will be..
Also we will be in Port Canaveral for WDW day on Thanksgiving. We’re booked on the 7:30 bus to the MK. when typically is the last bus back? Want to stay as late as possible.
