Leaving meds with the stroller - okay?

We are taking a soft sided cooler to keep in the stroller basket. I was planning on keeping my sons epi-pen, allergy meds, and inhaler in it. Do you think it will be safe tucked in the stroller basket while we go on the rides? We've never had a problem before with things disappearing.

I would certainly not chance it myself. It might be fine but things are often stolen from strollers or wheelchairs if not the entire thing. And I can't think of many worse things to BE stolen then medications.

None of those need to be kept cold I would carry them in a fanny pack

Agreeing with everyone else. Carry it with you. We had a one gallon ziplock bag FILLED to the brim with meds on our last trip. It's a pain to carry but a lot safer and easier to deal with than stolen meds.

I often wonder what security thinks when they check the backpack and see that huge bag of drugs sitting on top!!!!!

If they will be needed or may be needed in the parks carry them in a fanny pack or backpack that stays with you. DO not risk them being taken.

Not just the risk of stealing it, but what if a small kid gets its hands on it? We all know parents try to watch their kids but sometimes a kid is out of sight for a moment. I personally wouldn't want to risk any kid being able to reach any of my medication, never mind how "mild" they might be.


Belle, security doesn't think anything or they are very good acters. I allways had my med-bag (see through) on top and it had enough in there to get a few big man knocked out. I made sure it was on top so they would see it immediately and there was no room for "what is this"? Actually, after seeing that med-bag no security guard ever looked at the rest of the bags even if they turned other bags inside out.

my concern would be that you need it on a ride... what happens if you get stuck at the top of splash mountain due to a ride breakdown? if you ever need an inhaler, that would be the time! also, i have gotten stuck in ride lines for ages due to a breakdown, and it would be best if you had the meds with you

Definely not! In July my stroller was misplaced over 20 minutes. The CM move them around...

I'd take the inhaler and epi-pen with you into all attractions. As stated before, you might need to use them in the attractions!

I read a post somewhere (here or one of the diabetes boards I read) about someone getting stuck on Splash Mountain for about 20 mins with their kids - one of whom has type 1 diabetes. It is always good to have those emergency/rescue meds with you right there (for us, his test kit, emergency glucose, apple juice box, tabs, and epi-pens cause he is allergic to peanut). We leave any extra food/juice in the stroller.

We have always brought those things on the rides with us too. If there is something that isn't need ASAP but might be needed or needs to be kept cold you can leave it at the First Aid Station. We changed William's infusion set at the MK this summer - left his supplies for that there and went to First Aid and they gave us a little "room" to do the set change when it was time.

I wish we could say the same! EVERY time we go through security, our bags all get turned inside out. We have a huge bag of meds too and lots of other medical items - usually a whole carry on bag with nothing but medical stuff. We have two kids in wheelchairs and a third not walking yet, using her stroller as a wheelchair, and our family always gets "tagged" for the extra "search" - we just don't understand it, must have one of our names in the system or something that triggers the random search? I wish we could figure out what it is, and change it!

Just had another thought...if your child is so allergic I wouldn't even risk leaving the epi-pen and/or inhaler any other place than my pocket or knapsack, purse, etc. You never know how long the lines will be, scents that are around you from other people, etc.

Being a family with major health issue this is what we do....I actually put all drugs in the safe, I know that sounds crazy but you never know.
The other thing I need to do is carry daily a small across the body purse (I keep the epi in there as well as the inhaler, Benydryl, etc) works well.

I have a Coach bag that goes across my body it is very light and adjustable & comfortable no matter how many layers I have on but there are so many choices.

You correct, Shorty, I was talking about park security.

Allthough I must say that I've found it almost ridiculously easy to take my meds with me through airport security. Countries like the US, Malaysia, Australia etc. that are supposed to have pretty thigh regulations, they all let me walk by without any checking except for asking "got anything to declare?". I can hardly even state what I've brought (my meds are under very strict regulations in every country, which should involve very close checking when you enter a country. For instance; within the Europian Union you'll need a permit of a national gouvernment office before being allowed to travel with these meds) or I'll be told "that's fine, nice day, next!". I've never had a custom even want to look at the meds or documentations and I bring more than enough to knock out more than one flightcrew. I actually always have a large carry on for meds only, so it isn't like it's not noticable.



I can't help but think it definately does matter who and what you are. Somehow I look harmless and therefor get checked less than you'ld think is normall. My father on the other hand can't get in or out a country without being picked out by customs and having to go through opening the bags and explaining each and every thing in there. Even if he comes back, he goes through the same thing here in our own little place of earth -and except for some "risk flights", customs can't be blamed of being difficult overhere-. He doesn't have a criminal record, no problems with any gouvernment, no religion (which I know can be a risk of being checked more in certain places), nothing that we can think of why customs would pick him. Even if he's travelling with others, they only want him. Only way he gets out of this; travelling with me. He never gets picked out then.

I have never understood the extra searching of moms and dads with wheelchairs, kids obviously handicapped, and I always say to hubby after we get through the line I guess I really look like a terrorist, me a tired mom pushing an obviously special needs child and carrying a bag full of meds, a nebulizer, and other equipment. Those guys who don't go through bag check could easily be packing a gun or a knife in their pockets, but they are not searched!!!

When my 3 yo ds went on his MAW trip - he beeped and had to be hand scanned. Here is this little bald baby practically because he was still g-tube fed that weighed about 23 lbs - taking off his baseball cap and holding his arms out to be scanned. (It was his port-a-cath that set it off). He of course handled it like a little man and thought it was funny. Actually he probably handled it better than a man would because they would of huffed at the inconvience!
Definitely keep all meds with you. Sometimes smells sets my oldest ds off with his asthma. Once we got stuck on POTC ride and needed to be fished out. Steam and moldly smalls can easy bring on an asthma attack!
The baggallini bag was great. There is a code through mousesavers I think.
