Thanks for all the great info on the disboards. I leave tomorrow, June 2nd for a week of Magic at Disneyland ! I'm soooooo excited !

For those that do PhotoPass........do you pre-pay ahead of time on the internet or pay at Disneyland ?
Is there an advantage to one or the other ?

For DLR, the price is the same if you pre-order or post-order. For WDW, there is a good savings available if you pre-order.)

The DLR PhotoPass thing works a little differently than the WDW system in that it saves you money to pre-order your CD online for WDW, whereas it is more expensive to pre-order the CD online for DLR ($99.95, I think??)! So don't pre-order anything online! As to whether or not you can/should buy the CD while you are at DLR, you technically can, but none of us recommend it. The usual way we all do it is to get all the pictures taken and your PP card scanned after each one, hang on to your PhotoPass card(s), then when you return home from your trip, you create your online PhotoPass account and enter in all your PP card numbers. You will then be able to view, edit and share your photos for a 30-day period and then if you choose to buy the CD before the 30 days are up, you pay $59.95 + $7.00 shipping if you are in the U.S. You can get hundreds and hundreds of photos on your PP account for the same $59.95 price, and you can add all kinds of fun borders and effects and make certain pictures black and white, etc. You can't edit anything if you buy the CD while in the parks. So my advice is to wait until you get home and then buy it!

And have a WONDERFUL time!!!:goodvibes

Thanks for the quick responses.......

And the great advice !

The only way buying the CD at the parks will be good is if you are a serious scrapbooker who wants to use your own things to enhance the pictures, and you just want the PLAIN pictures. Also, if you want it in your hands as you leave, rather than waiting for it.

The price is the same (minus the shipping), and they generally have a deal where they throw in 2 or so 5x7 prints when you buy it in the parks.

But most of us enjoy enhancing the pictures with the photopass stuff. Each time you edit a picture, you save it as a copy, so the original picture is always there. When you get the CD you'll get the originals and all the edits you made and saved, so you can still use photoshop etc on the originals.

But don't pre-order anything for DLR. Definitely.

I a a little confused if you pre order for DL can't you still edit things after you add your photo pass pictures to it ?

There is no pre-ordering for DLR.

I mean, sure, you can go to the link that is on the WDW forums, but you'll end up paying 99.95. The pre-order page is based on WDW prices.

There's no special page with a price cheaper than 59.95 for DLR's photopass.

Get it at the parks and pay 59.95 (and tax? maybe?) and get the plain pix on the CD plus a few prints. Wait until you get home, edit those pix, and pay 59.95 plus shipping.

So this is not a good deal if you are going to DL only WDW ?

I don't know about any discounts off hand, but any way you slice it, pre-ordering a CD for DLR is not a wise idea. The price is $59.95 plus $7.00 for shipping in the U.S. - after you return home and view, edit and share your pictures and purchase the CD. Or, as Bumbershoot explained, you could buy the CD at DLR and NOT have the ability to edit anything, and only get plain photos. The editing is 50% of the fun, though, which is why we all wait to get the CD when we get home and edit our photos. So any discounts applied to the current price for a DLR CD in the park would make it cheaper than $59.95, sure, but you wouldn't be able to edit using the Disney borders and effects. And if you have a discount to use for ordering the CD once you get home, then great - it will be even cheaper than $59.95.

OK I think I get it now thank you for explaineing it to I thought when I bought the photo pass cd before I paid like $79 so I just figured it had went up to $99 so I will wait till we get home to get the cd.

Thanks again

Right! And make sure to share your PhotoPass pictures with us on the PhotoPass sticky in the DL Community section when you get back and order your CD! (OP as well -make sure to post your pictures when you get your CD!)

Have a great time!:goodvibes

Just to clarify...the Photopass itself is FREE!!!

You ask the first photographer you see to take your picture and he/she will give you a Photopass. After that, have each photographer scan your Photopass when taking your photo. THen...when you get home (or from the photo shop at DL) you can look at all the photos and email them to friends for up to 30 days. At that time you can order the CD or jsut purchase a photo or two - or none for that matter! I recommend doing it all from home - we had several pictures taken our last trip to WDW and only a few were worth purchasing.

See, it is interesting about PhotoPass - some folks feel like you did, TamiV, and only buy the individual pictures that are worth it to them, and others like myself edit all the photos and multiply the number of photos there are. In one case, I turned 97 pictures into 300 with my different edits, and I know Dizneydaz turned whatever her original number of photos was into over 2000 pictures!!!! And you can get all of those pictures for the same $59.95 price! So I just take them all and get them all - even the bad ones - on the CD and edit and edit until I have a quantity of photos that makes me feel I can pay $60 for the CD. Other folks, however, only buy single pictures and not the CD. I guess it is a personal choice as to what the best value is.

Thanks for answering the question I didn't have a chance to ask. I do all my own photo editing and don't like the borders/extras at all. So I was thinking that it may be worth my while to just get the CD on our last day. You definitely answered my questions about it, and more. Thanks! :thumbsup2

I've never been able to email them to friends/family. How do you do it?

And yes using the PP photogs is free, and they will gladly take some of your group using your own camera(s).

Hopefully TamiV you'll get some great PP this time since you are in my last CD share. :goodvibes Group 1 ended up with over 1500! Our birthday is almost here, fellow Cancer. 3 weeks from tomorrow. :goodvibes

I am also a Cancer, but I am later in July! Dizneydaz, you have never used the "Share" feature in the PhotoPass site? Somewhere in there it says Share, and you can email the pictures (within that first 30 day time frame) around to people, but they get reduced-size versions of them. They don't get to see the big versions until you buy the CD, but you can still send them to people. I have done that both of the last times I used PP!!

Well, I haven't used it since 2005 and at that time there was a link that said "Share my pictures" or something like that. You could share all or some buy entering email addresses of your friends and family. My sister sent me hers a couple years ago and so did another friend so I assumed that was still an option.

Yes, yes, yes! I am hoping for tons of great photos this time around! I'm a scrapbooker and obsessed with taking photos so my family gets a little grumpy with me making them stop to pose with the photopass photog too! :rolleyes1

Dizneydaz - Do you have special plans for your bday? We'll be eating at BB - my first time ever! I can't wait! I'm driving my family crazy with plans! THis is the big 40 for me, so I'm planning to stand in the "O" of california and hold up 4 fingers for my birthday album title page! LOL! I know - I'm a dork!!!:rotfl2:

Thanks Sherri and Tami. You learn something new everyday! :rotfl: I just clicked on it and sure enough you can share them-who knew? Looks like you have to share the entire album-all pix, DL, or just DCA. There's over 1500 in the all photos so I won't be sending them to anyone but it's good to know for the future!

I can't decide what do to for my actual birthday. I'm planning on going to DLR, of course, and taking DD9 out of school. She's year round and that'll be her 2nd to the last week in 4th grade. She starts 5th grade on July 6th. (they grow up so fast! :sad2:) For my birthday weekend, which I figure can be either the one before or after, I do like to go to San Diego for a few days. It's a perfect time to go to the San Diego (formerly Del Mar) fair. But I don't know about this year. Maybe I should just save my money to go to WDW in Sept. for my DD's Big 10 and my DM's Big 70. I myself will be celebrating my 5-0! Yikes, how did I get so old! :scared1: Actually I think age is mostly a state of mind so I'm still in my 20's! :rotfl2:

I like the idea of standing in the big O with your fingers up. I'll have to do that as well. :goodvibes I keep wanting to take pictures of all the letters with myself (okay, someone else will have to take the actaul photos, DD is actually quite a good photographer). I've played around with Photoshop (mine is 2.0) and can manipulate the letters to form names. I did my DSis's when they were decorated for Xmas-with her and my DD with the letters. My DD pointed out that I could spell her name from CALIFORNIA. Her name is Lori. I've played around with my daughter on the letters and have done her name as well. I had to create a D and E which wasn't too hard. For my name I need a T and an E. The D was the hardest-I used the O and copied and pasted with the clone stamp the I to form the D. The E is really easy. The T shouldn't be too hard. Tami, you could make a M using the A's, I think.

So, see, you're not the big of a dork!

You should like BB. I haven't been since the menu changes but I've always liked the atmosphere.

Not only the 'crab' connotation bugs me, but 'cancer' is such an ugly word in and of itself when you think about it. Gee, I really love having my birth sign being the name of a hideous illness.... And no one ever focuses on the 'Moon Child' aspect of being a Cancer - it is always the negative stuff like Crab and Cancer the disease.

It is weird because most friends I know are grouped off into months with their birthdays- like I have a group of friends with May birthdays...then a couple of us are in July...then a couple of friends are October babies...and then a couple of friends are December babies...but no other months, really! Weird!!

I totally forgot about Moon Child-that is so much better than Cancer-oh and don't forget-we're crabby and moody too!

Our family has a lot of birthdays in April, 3 in Sept. (my DD9 and my DNephew18 share the same day), we had 3 in Feb. before my Dad and Grandpa passed away, and now we have 2 in Dec. thanks to the birth of my Foster son/Nephew on Christmas Eve, our 2 Dec. birthdays on actually on the same day. But only one in June. I always thought June was pretty cool since I would get my summer clothes for my birthday. :goodvibes

OP, I hope you have a great time! The weather is our typical June Gloom with a possibility of some showers during the week (though not too much of a chance)
