Ok we leave in little over a week, on the 9-21 Magic, I have more questions.

1) There have been questions about nail clippers are they ok would only take small ones, but nothing about tweezers. Will they
confiscate them? I cannnot go a week without them! My eyebrows will grow together if I do! Of course they will be with me in my carry on in my cosmetics bag.

2) My hairdryer. Can I put it in my checked bag or should I keep it in my carry on? I am looking for a smaller one to take. I don't plan on getting in the pool the first day so I probably won't need it til sunday morning. I know there are ones in the rooms but have read that they are not very good.

3) Restrooms. This is a very dumb question, they are located all over? Sorry we have never been on a cruise. I know it sounds stupid.

I will probably think of more! Thanks for the info in advance!

We didnt bring clippers, but we did bring tweezers & scissors. I would think clippers would be fine too. The hairdryer can go in either bag, as can the tweezers. Remember once you get on the ship and get your luggage you will have access to everything no matter where it is packed. I think you just have to worry about the checked/carry on issue on planes.
And yes, restrooms are located throughout the ship. We never seemed to have trouble finding one when needed.
Have a great trip and dont worry! :D

After recently reading the thread about the absence of clocks on the ship, questioning restroom availability doesn't seem dumb at all. Having not yet been on our cruise, I'm glad you asked the question.

Keep the "dumb" questions coming. It makes the rest of us with equally silly questions feel better to know we're not alone.

9-21 is soo right around the corner. Hope you have a great time!

I had tweezers in my carry on bag and did not have a problem with security getting on the ship. I am not sure if you were talking about DCL security or airline but we drove so did not encounter the airline security.

I had nail clippers and tweezers confiscated by airport security. I now pack these items in checked luggage.

I nail clipper and GOOD tweezers confiscated just recently, too! I actually had forgotten they were in my bag, but they got them. I would now pack those in the checked bag.
For the alarm clock, I recently read a thread that they were putting them in the staterooms in the next couple of weeks!!
Have a great trip!;)

Do NOT take your nail clippers or tweezers in your carry-on bag at the airport, they will take them if they search your bags. Put them in your checked bags. You CAN put them in your carry-on to get on the ship, though.

You can take your hair dryer either way, checked or carry on.

There are several public restrooms located on most decks of the ship.

Enjoy! :)

Oops, sorry! I assumed you meant ship security, not airline. :)

the ship isn't really all that big so i almost always went back to our bathroom in the room, but yes there are bathrooms all over the ship....the only one i did go into was near the adult clubs and it was really cute....in the style of the clubs.....

as for tweezers.....it's funny.....i was very careful to put my manicure set in my checked luggage, but i forgot about the tweezers in my makeup bag.....we flew on 8 flights on our trip this summer and they weren't noticed in a single one of them.....the problem with airline security in the US is the lack of consistency.....but that'a a whole other post.....(i won't even mention the things we had that were REALLY suspect that weren't noticed even though on several occasions we were part of the in-depth gateside checks....you really don't want to know the kind of things that they don't notice....actually if i had been trying to get things by them i think i could have managed just about anything.....and then the idiot pilot on our coast to coast flight on american airlines left the cockpit door open during the flight...i really should have reported it to the FAA......that was totally unbelievable.....)

Airport security is still all over the place (your tax dollars at work), so check anything even as remotely dangerous as a bottle of breast milk for your baby. The airport security people as a general whole are inept, incompetent, moronic, downright stupid, completely lacking in common sense, completely lacking in common courtesy, and a complete waste of skin. I think they share one brain cell between them.

:::::::::::stepping down from the rant box::::::::::::::::

That said, security at the port are a pleasant bunch. If an item can not be taken on board, they will hold it for you (unless it's something illegal, like a grenade launcher, then you have bigger problems than not having your stuff when you get back). I saw them holding a lot of things like Leathermans. My guess is that they will even hold a properly licensed, properly secured hand gun. (But it would really be better if you didn't need to bring that along to begin with...)

At any rate, there will be no problem carrying on your clippers, tweezers, small cuticle scissors (the one inch blade size), disposable razors, etc.

You will also be able to check through a corkscrew, not sure about carrying it on.

You can carry on your hairdryer, curling iron, nebulizer, Braun hair clipper, leaf blower, and pretty much any other electrical appliance which isn't dangerous. I wouldn't suggest carrying on or checking your Sawzall or DeWalt Drill, they might take exception to items like those.

Just remember, anything you carryon you have to lug around for up to 2 1/2 hours, depending on when you board and when your stateroom is ready. So try to keep it to a minimum of things you'll need right away, plus prescription medications, documents, passports, cash, cameras, jewelry, etc.

There are restrooms located strategically throughout the ship, although it is generally recommended by Public Health Officials that you use the one in your cabin as much as possible to avoid the spread of various diseases. The public ones are generally spotless though.

Ok, I will add to the rant of the security screeners. Coming back from the western in July the screeners at Orlando made me put my empty clear plastic glass (the long margareta one) through the xray machine. I am a 14 year Air Force vet. College Grad and pent many years as a security manager, wrote security directives and worked on Explosive Ordinance Teams identifying bombs and the like. I FAILED the airport screeners exam. They don't tell you why but be sure that it won't get better any time soon. As to why I would apply. Living in Silicon Valley I have been unemployed for a year and my time in the Air Force would have counted towards retirement.:D

First, thanks for the info on the disposable razor! More for DS than me actually. At 15 he is just starting the whole shaving routine and prefers blades to electric like his dad uses. We were a bit concerned that he'd get too scruffy on the cruise!:jester:

Second, our regional airport just switched over to the federal employees as screeners. We know a couple of retired Coast Guard people who are part of the group - one is the director. Will be interesting to see how things change, as there were numerous complaints about ineptness in the last couple of months. Not saying they were ALL that way. There is at least one screener that reads these boards and has provided much VALUABLE info.

FantasticDisFamily,..
that's interesting...our only encounter with intelligent screeners was in newark in the international terminal....and these guys definitely struck me as being newly retired military.....
it was such a pleasure to go through the security check there...which was lucky since we had to cross it twice (the business lounge we waited in was in the opposite wing of that of the gate.....so we had to cross security to get to the lounge and then cross back the other way and go through security again to get to the gate.....thankfully it was painless....unlike every other airport we were in this summer)...
