leaving in the morning for disney best beach

So finally our time has come! We leave at 4 am for the airport!!!

My question is my dd's age 6 & 8 really want to go to a beach what is the closest best beach to take them to?

We've gone both the the east and to the west. Last year we went to Honeymoon Island, out of Tampa, and it was nice. Year before we went east near Cape Kennedy (out of Merrit Island Reserve) the water was much rough there that trip. The water to the west is much tamer.

A few years back we split our trip between Disney and the "real" Florida. We visited Anne Marie Island which was nice but my favorite beach was Sanibel Island. It's really too far for a day trip to from WDW but if you have longer it's a nice beach. The water is tame and nice and warm. And there's lots of shells.

Some people on the boards have mentioned St. Pete Beach but we haven't been there. If I was going to the beach for a day trip I would go back to Honeymoon Island. We really enjoyed it.
