First Time Cruiser.......We're leaving in 9 days and i'm dieing to start packing. What items/things should i not forget. What did you pack that was a must have and not needed?

:sunny:

We always seem to take too many clothes. You don't really get them dirty on the ship so can wear more than once without washing them.
One thing to take if you have long hair is something to tie it up with, or braid it. It gets very windy on deck and my hair gets in knots really easy.
Have fun.
mom x4,grandma x4 :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :wave2:

The only things that you really, really, really need are your photo id's and birthcertificate (or a passport will work for both the photo id and citizenship).

Oh yea, any prescription meds.

Everything else you can get onboard or in port.

Don't forget ME.................. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

On a more serious note..Don't forget the most expensive things, lotion, tylenol, films..etc..These are available, but add up, as they are very $$$$$$$$$$$$$$..

Enjoy your cruise.. :sunny:

Like Jrabbit said..... bring your ID!

Sun screen Sun screen Sun screen

A clear plastic over the door shoe holder...We kept our bathroom accessories in here.

Head band or something for your hair....I ended up getting mine braided because of the wind

No need to bring a lot of clothes....I ended up bringing more outfits than needed... and hated the extra clothes taking up space..

Oh, did I mention sun screen :3dglasses

paitence and a positive attitude and remember to relax and have fun!! :cool1:

if you have any perscription meds remember to bring them in their original bottles (my pharmacy went ahead and made me a set of bottles in the smallest size with the persription info. so it would'nt take up much space) also buy the little travel size packages of any otc's before you leave (expensive on the boat if they even have it). if you plan on buying anything breakable bring a roll of bubble paper to wrap it in for the trip home. if you plan to bring multiple items that need to be plugged in bring a small power strip. bring your medical insurance cards (or a photo copy)-just in case. bring a plastic cd case if you decide to have all of your photos burned to a cd before you come home (better than the little paper envelopes the processing places give you).

enjoy, enjoy, enjoy

Hi! :wave2: We'll be on the May 1 Wonder also!! Me, my DH, S(13) and DD(11) are very excited!!

I plan to do most of my packing this weekend, after a "final" housecleaning. I used the link at the top of the Board that compiles all of the best tips. I made a packing list and a tips list (Word documents). I am at home now, but I'll e-mail them to you tomorrow if you'd like them. Let me know!!

Kathy

Remember sun glasses!! :cool1: I always think - "Oh, I will remember those" and then I end up leaving mine at home or one of my kid's glasses at home and they want to use mine.

Here are a few more that I always write down because I forget sometimes when I travel  :

Magazines
Camera, film, and batteries
Bathing suit
Snacks, candy, gum (for popping ears or fidgety kids!)
Pictures of kids or Ident-a-Kids card (just in case)
2-way radios
Cell Phone and charger

Have fun!!! :cheer2:

How strict is the medicine in prescription bottles rule? My mom takes about 10 different pills a day (vitamins and prescription) and she just puts them in the mini ziploc bags by day. Are they really going to be suspicious of a 70 year old grandma?
Thanks-
Donna

my pharmacist said that "usualy" seniors using those pill a day containers are not bothered, however if you get one "by the books" official it could cause a major headache. this was why he suggested making mini bottles with enoungh to cover the duration of vacation (plus a couple of days extra) which fit into a small zippered meds wallet i purchased at the luggage outlet (about $15.00 , it also will hold an insurance and or medicare care-it was the perfect size to put in the room safe so i did'nt have bottles tumbling out each time i opened it). as far as the vitamins go i would suggest she buy the smallest size container for that type and just keep in on hand to refill from her larger bottles for any future travel (of if she buys them from the same place she gets her meds she could hit up the pharmacist to make up small bottles with just a lable identifying what type of vitamin it is-most places will do this free of charge).

i love it-housecleaning before leaving:one of the best parts of the vacation is coming home to a clean house :teeth:

another item to bring-grab an international calling card at walmart, those cell phone rates out of the country are a killer!

on an "ahem" personal note-if there's any chance you may need a particular brand of sanitary product-take your own, the ship has a very limited selection.

oh yeah! if your flying in bring QUARTERS for the luggage carriers at the airport, and $1 bills for porters, etc. (we actualy hit up our bank for $2 bills to use for tips-these were a huge hit).

enjoy your trip-so for mother's day will your family do the unpacking, laundry and putting away of everything? :grouphug:

Extra money to rebook next cruise on board :cool1:
You are going to love it :cheer2:

More than one bathing suit for each person. It seemed like we ended up wearing our suits most days almost all day, so being able to switch out while the other one dried completely was good.....

waterproof camera
SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN (we were shocked that if we just liberally applied this several times a day, NO sunburn! NICE TAN!)
A different dress for each night of dinner (teachers don't get to dress up much)
travel alarm clock
Mountain Dew for DH
128MB memory card for digital camera
small evening bag to carry key card/lanyard for day
A clean outfit for each day ( I perspire--no, sweat--and can spill)
Basic meds--tums, pepcid, tylenol, immodium
Seasickness patch
WISH I LEFT AT HOME:
Power strip--2 plugs was plenty for us
over door organizer--never used, plenty storage
hangover med--just tums w/ vitamins
all the "what if" stuff--figure if "what if" happens would rather pay a couple extra bucks than take up valuable packing space
WHAT WE WILL TAKE W/ KIDS ALONG:
Rolling duffels for older 2
gum/fruit snacks for plane take-off/ landing
books/gameboys
snacks
2 swimsuits each
ONE pair of nice pants each for boys; launder if they get dirty; DD is a diva, she will likely want a different outfit for dinner each night like Mom!!
DH and I each had a 30" suitcase, then we had a large rolling garment bag, golf clubs, and packed 2 carry ons that we used on the way home.
Plan on the same w/ kids except NO golf clubs, and hopefully older kids clothes will all fit in their duffels. We shall see....
Happy cruising!
Kristin

Water shoes for everyone. About $5/pair at Target. DH never needed his (he never needed a seasickness patch, either...)
But I climbed Dunn's River Falls in Jamaica, and I could never have done it w/o them. I twisted my ankle on the falls, and was sure glad I had brought my ankle support--if you are prone to such things, DO be prepared. Of course it was Captain's Gala that night, but luckily I have a pair of Target flip-flops w/ beads and sequins, so it was kind of a cas-Caribbean dressy.
Oh, and my travel toiletry kit that hangs in the bathroom probably saved my from needing the pocket organizer. Toiletry kits also available at Target, Lands End, etc.
Had to add...
Kristin

Don't forget your rechargers...we went to the parks for a week before our 4 day cruise and forgot our digital camera recharger. The battery died 2 days before the cruise. Luckily Ritz Camera at the Florida Mall charged it up for me and I could take pictures on the cruise. ( We did remember our boy's gameboy chargers!)

This will probably get comments, but the one suggestion that I got from all the lists that I really appreciated (because I would not have thought of it) was the air fresheners for the bathrooms. I bought the little stick on kind (2 for 97 cents) and just put them on the counters. They really helped. Don't know why, but the split bathroom with the sink/shower/tub really needed it!
Have a great trip!

Over the door organizer AND the suction cup hooks were life savers for us - I think they are more appreciated in a CAT 11 like we were than in the bigger rooms with split baths.

Power strip was great to keep the chargers, curling iron etc plugged in at the vanity area. Depends on what all you have to plug in.

Gallon ziplock bags - swimsuits were still wet when we had to pack to go home.

Go with the flow attitude. Plan to have a good time even though you know SOMETHING will go wrong. Laugh it off and have a good time anyway. Don't be obsessive (like most of us on the boards) about too many things.
