Leaving in 8 days? Should we try for PSs before we go?

We're leaving Friday, Jan 21 and will spend our first day in the parks Sunday, Jan 23. We will be staying until Saturday, Jan 29. Is it too late to make PSs? Other than Boma (breakfast or lunch???), what sit-down meals do you consider musts? Is there any decent food at Port Orleans Riverside? We're spending one day at Sea World? Any recommendations there? Should we try to dine with Shamu?

Hi, looks like we will be there at the same time as you are!!! We stayed at POR two times in past & tired of their food court food rather quickly. I would make some priority seating arrangements ahead of time, just in case it is busier than you think. Most just require your name & ask that you call & cancel if you don't think you'll make it there (but it isn't like they come looking for you if you don't show). Check out the menus on www.allearsnet.com you can see the complete menus (including children's) for all onsite restaurants & dining halls. Our favorites are Mama Melrose at MGM, LeCelliar Steakhouse in Canada at EPCOT, Tusker House in Animal Kingdom (no reservations needed), Ohana at Poly. Good luck!!!

Pray for good weather!!!! :cloud9:

HI

I called WDW dinning last night and the CM looked at Ohana's, Chef Mickeys, 1900 Park Fare and Crystal Palace for openings during our stay between Jan 20th and 29th and they were wide open. We will be making maybe one character ps but the rest we are gonna wing it.

Enjoy your trip, the weather forcast is looking better and better for that time.

Yes, I would call and make some PS before you go. I think you will get tired of the counter service restaurants quite quickly. If you have an idea about where you might be on which days it will make it easier to make PS. Have a wonderful trip!

It does not hurt to make them. I have called wDWDINE as close as 45 minutes ahead to make a PS just to avaid a standby line. Most of the restaurants have a data terminal right at the podium which is updated as soon as the reservation is made.

I once went to one where I had just made the reservation about an hour ago where they did not have a terminal at the podium so they were working off a list and they did not want to seat me. I asked for the manager and one of the hostesses went backstage and printed a new list and saw me on it.

We'll also be down that week - we've made some PS's for our trip, but I agree with the previous poster - they seem to be wide open for most times at most restaurants.

If you don't make any before you go, you can always call or go to guest services at your resort & get a same-day PS. We did this a few times in September - after we knew where we were going for the day & where we'd like to eat, we made our PS. That can help you avoid wait time at the restaurant if you would have just walked up.

We've also gone in January in the past & been fine with no PS's the entire trip. It helps to eat at off times, too. HTH! :D

Thanks for the advice!! I'm relieved to hear that it's not likely we won't be able to get in to most, if not all, full-service restaurants. We may wait and make our reservations once we get there. I'm a little worried about Boma? Has anyone called for PS there for that week? Also, what's your advice, breakfast or dinner? How close is it to AK? Will it be easy to just walk over to the park if we have breakfast there?

If I were you I would book a couple now and then adjust. We decided the morning of for some of our ps last year. Just book anything you have your heart set on in advance.

You can't walk between AK and AKL, you will have to take a bus, which is about a 5-minute ride, but remember to include bus wait times. If you have your heart set on eating at Boma for breakfast or dinner, I would make a PS just to be safe because it can get pretty crowded there.

We'll be arriving Friday too and I haven't made any PS's. I may make a few this weekend, but I'm actually looking forward to not being a commando Disney nut. In August we would decide when we arrive at the park and make PS arrangments, once we made them when running into Indiana Jones at PrimeTime, there was a big long line of people, the person was yelling out times I said We'll take it, and it worked out perfect! You can always call when down there too, the night before or that morning. I preferred staying at the Dolphin because it was easier to get through to Disney dining if you can believe that. I'm glad to hear restaurants are open.

Crystal Palace has good food, we always go. I have never had a problem just walking up to get a table, but we go during the slow season
