I'm usually the person that researches and uses the search option. But, I'm leaving in 4 days. Tonight at a wedding reception, I was taking down tables and manages to rip out my whole big toe nail. The whole thing. Took 45 minutes to get it to stop bleeding.

Now I need help on what to do. I called my doc and he was willing to give me pain killers. Needless to say my brain is not working.

Could some one help me figure out how to get around. Is it best to get a scooter here, somewhere there or Disney. Are the Disney ones only used in the parks? I had looked into this a little before as I had part of my foot bone removed.

I really, really would apreciate help. I know with time I could figure this out but I don't have time or the brain cells working right now.

ouch! Hope you heal quickly.

Yes, Disney scooters are available only in the parks, on a first-come first-serve basis but it sounds like you'll need one getting around your hotel and DTD as well. If you rent one off site they're cheaper, plus you can keep it with you over night and not need to worry about WDW running out of scooters. The rental agency will deliver a scooter to your hotel. Are you staying at one of the WDW resort hotels? Will you have a car? If you're staying off site and planning to drive you'll need a scooter that will collapse to fit in your car.

The battery should be good for an entire day, then you plug it in to recharge it over night. The scooter will fit on the WDW buses, tho it's tricky to parallel park the scooter so the bus driver can strap it into place. Traveling via the monorail is easier -- you just drive right onto it.

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information, including in Post #2 where people rent ECVs.

Or, if you want an easier route to the FAQs, click on the link in my signature.

I will be staying at All Star Sports. I will be coming by plane. I'm sure I can walk short distances by than. I just know I won't be walking around the world for sure.:lmao: I will try to get to doc on Monday to get the low down. I am so bummed I won't be able to swim. I had swim time figured in every noon.

So, the is a list some where of the off site rentals, right? They deliver to the resorts? I just call and give a credit card and they will have it at the park when I get there?

edited-Ches thanks for the link. Brain needs all the help it gets.

I have a ADR at Trails End, will I be able to get a chair on the ferry or should I cancel this one?

Yes, you should rent off-site - the link Cheshire Figment provided should help :)

Also, I know some of the ferries can handle ECVs and some cannot - But I thought there was a bus to get from a place like DTD to FW - where are you traveling from to get to your ADR?

If you dont think you can swim due to the wound, look into Tegaderm bandages. I think its pretty waterproof, but a little on the expensive side. It stays on for a couple days.

Thanks, Will have to looking into it. I'm not sure they have on that works on the toe like that.

Go and get a cast cover that will work for swimming. Look at a local medical supply store.

Tegaderm is waterproof, but you would need a dressing under it, over your open toe area otherwise the Tegaderm would adhere to your wound area.

It is hard to get Tegaderm to stick reliably to a difficult surface like a toe. I have used it for other purposes (DD uses it under a patch medication to make a lower dose since the patch doesn’t touch her skin where the Tegaderm is).

I had a badly cracked fingernail and put some Tegaderm on my finger to protect it. It did hold for a while, but I don’t think would hold if my hand had been immersed in water.

I have ripped off the toenail of both of my large toes at one time or the other (once a jet ski dropped on it and the other I slipped on a boat and a screw poking out ripped it off). Anyway, I was able to walk with no problem in a couple of days. Just couldn't wear closed toe shoes for quite a while. Get some pain killers and you should be fine.

Thanks. I think I am getting a ECV to make sure. I hope to get pain killers tomorrow to last. The gauze is still stuck to the toe. I'm not suppose to peel it off as I have a bleeding disorder. I hope the doc has time to tell me what to do tomorrow. I pulled out the whole nail including the base so, I was told I'll never have another nail.

Thanks for all the help everyone:thumbsup2

You should get another nail. I have had both grow back, although it takes 6 months for it to grow out fully. Good luck! :thumbsup2

it can be a little tricky getting on the ferry to FW but it is doable. i did a lot last summer. you do stay on scooter unlike the buses. you will not see much of sites on boat ride and it easy to ride scooter over from dock to Trails End. scooter is allowed inside to table but not sure if you can remain in scooter at table.scooter come in TE to get to Hoop Dee Doo. just remember to plug in each night in your room.

We use tegaderm a lot. We put neosporine on and then the tegaderm on top of that and within days a cut is healed. We don't change the dressing just leave it on it is water proof.

Learned this trick from a friend who is a nurse.

You might want to get one of those surgical shoes. The one that has the firm bottom and the velcor straps on the top. They usually give them to you if you have spraine an ankle.

I got the shoe. Went to Doc today. They took the bandage off the EMT put on. Took her over 2 hours to get it off. The EMT had used plain gauze and the toe had started healing into and thru the gauze. Very painful morning and now the healing has to start all over again. Also no on the tegaderm as the nail bed isn't like a cut

She also told me to get the scooter so, am looking to get one now. Thanks for all the help

Blondietink that is good to hear. I do hope to get it back. Did yours grow back normal or thicker or misshapen?

They both grew back mostly normal. The one where the jet ski dropped off the trailer onto it has a vertical line indented on it, but with nail polish or without it looks fine. Nothing else abnormal, no thicker than they used to be. :thumbsup2
