We're so thrilled about it and have been trying. What have you ladies who have been this newly pregnant done about rides. I will ask my doc but just wondering.

Questionable rides:

Big Thunder Mtn
SPlash Mtn: I feel ok with 1 minor drop
Space Mtn only goes 27-33 miles per hour..just feels wilder in the dark

Mission:SPACE: no way
Test Track: I think I feel ok doing this one

Tower of Terror: ok?
Rock n Rollercoaster

Dinosaur: ok?
Safari ride: ok?

Please give me your opinions on these if you've been in my shoes! Thanks. I've heard people say that the "no preggo" warnings are for later pregnancy and basically to cover Disney's butt.

I can't give you any advice since I don't have any kids...but...

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEWS!!!!!!!!!!! :bounce: :bounce:

I went when I was eight weeks along with ds. I avoided all rides that had a pg warning, except Splash Mtn at MK and the Safari ride at AK (try to sit close to the front - it's a little less bouncy than in the back). I had been on both of those often enough I felt they were not rides I needed to worry about at that point. I skipped everything else that had a pregnancy warning. The warnings probably are there mainly just as a CYA for Disney, but it was only one trip of many and I just felt that it was better to be overly cautious than not enough. I say talk with dr about it and do what you feel comfortable with. Take things as slow as you need to (I felt exhausted most of the first trimester). Of course, drink plenty of water, and hopefully you won't have any M/S to deal with.

Tips for expectant moms

hth, and have a great trip!

I just found out I will be 20 weeks when we go in May. I am a little disappointed it is my first time going and was goign to be a real daredevil. I am happy about being pg we have a beautiful daughter who is 6 and after 6 miscarriages now to have another.
Good to know they have pregnancy warnings I will heed them all and let my daughter and hubbie go on them.
btw Congrats
Diane

Follow the warnings!

Do not go on any rides that have the pregnancy warning.

There are warnings there for a reason.

No thrill rides for pregnant Moms.

CONGRATS on your pregnancy!

I would say NO WAY to all of those. I was prego last year at WDW and sat out most of the rides. Test Track has those horrible (but fun) brake tests. That's not good for a growing fetus. IMO it's not worth the risk. Those first 3 months are very important and then the next six months are super important. Not worth the risk.

Yes the warnings are to cover Disney's butt, but there is a reason for it: miscarriages can happen on thrill rides. Any ride with a sudden jolt (Dinosaur, Test Track, all big roller coasters) is not safe.

bc we had a thread on this last week......my opinion differs greatly...i went this month at 9 weeks along & i rode everything except mission space, tot & rnr.

Last year we went when I was 30 weeks PG with my son. I did the safari at AK, but that was it for "thrill rides". I am too paranoid and to me it is not worth the very small risk to the baby. I still had a great time and it was nice to go "uncomando" for a change! Keep in mind that you will probably get tired much easier now, even this early. Plan for plenty of sit down breaks (and lots of water as another poster said). Also, pack some crackers or something for those times when you MUST EAT NOW and aren't near a snack stand. Have a great time and CONGRATULATIONS! :Pinkbounc

This poster is correct! I too went in my 1st trimester several times and there is no way I would risk anything happening to that sweet baby. If you get bumped on a ride, it can cause placental abruption [the placenta can be detached from the uterus] and the baby cannot survive. Also with so much development going on in the first trimester, why would anyone possibly want to risk harming their baby all for the sake of a few thrill rides? There are still many rides you can do and so much to see at Disney. I kept myself very busy and had a blast with all of my pregnancies at Disney and I never felt cheated. Maybe you could postpone your trip until after the baby is born or just modify the rides you go on to "safe" ones. Please don't go on the Disney unsafe for pregnant women rides - I think you should run from anything that could even begin to harm your baby! HTH

Congratulations!! I went when I was 8 weeks pregnant. I avoided all thrill rides (sadly) except for the safari ride, and I wish I had skipped that one, I was thrown from my seat into the seat of the person next to me's lap! To me, all the jolts, no matter what speed they're at, aren't worth the risk. I got tired very easily and not to mention the all day sickness. Just try and take it easy and enjoy this trip. Try looking for hidden Mickeys or some of the other "secrets" around WDW, or try catching some of the shows and acts that you don't normally get to see while racing from ride to ride. WDW is great either at a leisurely pace or commando-style, just enjoy it and your pregnancy!

Have a great time!

I found out I was pregnant on the last day of our WDW vacation a few years ago. I was a month or so along by that time. By the time I found out, I had already ridden ALL of the rides. I called my dr. in a panic. She assured me that I could ride anything - the postings are there as a cya for Disney. And she is a VERY strict doctor!

That said, I would not ride Mission Space, Tower of Terror, Test Track, Star Tours/Body Wars, or any of the roller coasters while pregnant.

....Congratulations! I would definitely avoid the 'fast' and 'bumpy' rides!

Thanks for evryone's opinions. I will ask my doctor tomorrow. I understand not going on the rides when you could risk shearing forces on the placenta (I would never dream off it then) but technically I'm not even late for my period! I don't have a placenta and it's still just a cluster of cells. I know I feel comfortable w/ Splash Mountain for sure.

I'll just ride Peter Pan and Pooh over and over again!! Oh yeah..shop and eat!!! My friends DH does not ride rides (motion sickness) and he loves to wonder the shops (and eat) so we'll trade spouses for the week!!

I totally agree!

I do not understand why people are willing to risk their baby for a thrill ride! Geez!

Losing a baby is not worth a ride! You can go on a ride next time. I just dont get why people would want to risk it.

Personally I would err on the side of caution if it has a warning don't ride it. No matter how much you like the ride IF something were to happen and you lost the baby would you really want to feel guilty over your 2 mins of fun at WDW?

That "cluster of cells" is what will become your baby's placenta, brain, skeletal system, and organs. If anything goes wrong in communication between the cells, something could be formed improperly. OK, I'm an OB nurse and I see all the bad stuff, plus I had a miscarriage of my own a few years back due to trisomy 9, so I may be overly cautious, but I don't feel it's worth the risk. My last 2 times to disney I was pregnant and only went on kiddie rides. Better safe than sorry!

I was 19 weeks pregant when we were in Disney and I skipped all of those rides except the Safari in AK, which I rode twice. The 1st time I was in the front row and our driver went very slowly so it wasn't any bumpier than driving in DC, so I thought I'd ride again. Well the 2nd time we were in the last row and it was horrible! I was so scared something was going to happen to my baby that I felt guilty and angry with myself the rest of the day. It was such a bumpy ride I thought for sure something had happened. It's not worth it to me to go through that, and if something had happened to our daughter I would never have forgiven myself. If we're there the next time I'm pregnant, I'm skipping that ride along with all the other 'restricted' ones.

Congrats! We just went after New Years and I was about 11 weeks along with #2. I didnt chance a thing since it took a yr to conceive! While the big boys did the thrill rides, I sat with my almost 3 yr old son who napped, or took him on a tame ride. When we were there last Feb, I thought I might be preggo and sat out the thrill rides (really bummed about not riding Mission Space and I still have yet to do so!). I was upset once I found out I wasnt preggo, but to me, the brief misery is better than losing a precious baby. Take the advice of your dr and use common sense. If its bumpy, fast or drops, dont do it. You cant rely on drivers going slow just because youre pregnant. The first 12 weeks are usually when miscarriages happen, and are very critical for development as others have mentioned. It also sounds like youre at the point of implantation so any jostling would probably be a bad thing. Be sure to drink lots of water (bring a Brita sports bottle since the tap water is nasty, and bottled water adds up fast)! Go and have fun on the "easy" rides and cheerish your last few months "alone". I cant remember what life was like before our son was born and its been wonderful!

I went at 13 weeks and will be back at 22 weeks. My doctor, who has been to WDW herself, advised me to stay off of all the rides with a warning. She mentioned Splash specifically because of the drop and potential bumping by logs when they pile up, although I must say other boat rides that are OK bump as well (pirates and El Rio del Tempo definitely bump!). IMO, it's really not worth it. Have a great trip and be careful!

Congratulations!!! How exciting for you!

I would echo the majority of the posters. Please, do not ride anything that could cause sudden jolts to your and your baby's body. Theme parks all have the warnings on their rides for a reason. A moment of thrill is not worth a lifetime of I wish I would have listened to the warnings. (Yes I know someone that miscarried at a theme park after riding a ride that had those warnings.)

A Disney trip can still be a great vacation without the thrill rides. Go exploring the resorts, dancing at Pleasure Island and most of all relax and enjoy yourself!!!
