Well we will be driving down to WL and my DH is sooo excited about that :headache: It will be around 15 hours. Plus the numerous stops we will be making. We would like to get to WL at a reasonable hour instead of late. So we will be leaving the day before driving HOPEFULLY, half way down. Where would be a good place to stop for the night? what areas? Easy on/off location..a decent place. I could probably motor it the whole way myself. I drove all night to MB. He wanted to stop and I just wanted to get there. However, with the kids in tow I think it would be better if we just stopped and tried to get a decent night's sleep.

thanks

I would suggest somewhere in Georgia. That way you don't have to push yourself too much the first day but you are still only 5 hours away from disney when you get up:thumbsup2

We are from a little north of Pittsburgh---Mercer county---the Hermitage area.
Anyway, in Dec 2008 we drove to WDW and stopped in Richmond Hill, GA. We stayed at a Hampton Inn. It was about 5 hours the next morning to finish the trip. We left home around 10:00am and got to Richmond Hill probably around 9:00 or so. It was a long day, but worth it.
Then, on the way home, we drove all day and stopped in Jonesville NC and stayed at the Hampton Inn. Absolutely the cleanest and most comfortable hotel we have ever stayed in!

Have fun, and watch your speed in WV!

thanks, and I know about the speed limits. We drive that way down the MB. I hate that area. GA is no fun either. They hear my DH is coming and they watch for him. :confused3 I'm thinking we will drive around 6/7 hours depending how great we all fill. We usually don't stop esp. on the way home. Oh all the wonderful winding mountains in WV. I feel like that takes forever

alright, just checked Richmond Hill, GA is almost 11 hrs for us. There is just no way we will be driving 11 hours. It's a total of about 15.5 hours to WL. UGH!@ Leaving around 4 pm driving until 11? I don't know if that puts us in North Carolina?

Jonesville, NC is about 6 hours. May try driving another hour I don't know. It will be later a night. I do want to get into the room and get the kids to bed HOPEFULLY. Then wake up 7/8 at head out again. The hotel there does look very nice and the price isn't too terrible. I don't know what we will do.

Here is another question. What do you do with all your luggage? do you leave in the car or take it in? We have a truck w/ a cover but I wouldn't trust that. We would either have to take it in the room or lock in the the truck.

We leave it in our truck. We travel in a four door chevy silverado with a cover on the back and we keep our luggage in the back under the cover.

We also leave our luggage in the car. We have a Honda Pilot SUV--clear windows in the back. To be honest, I've never given it a second thought about leaving everything in the back.

If you drive about an hour past Jonesville, NC, you will be around Charlotte. Lots of nice hotels near the interstate. Just over the SC border is Rock Hill SC. Also a lot of hotels. DO NOT stay at the Quality Inn in Rock Hill. I think some of their rooms are rented by the hour, if you know what I mean.

Let's Go Pens!

Cinbride,
You think driving 11 hours is long?:rotfl: We drive 16 hours the first day to get to Georgia!!!

We live in WV and it takes us about 15/16 hours too. We drive to Jacksonville and then stop so that we can sleep well then drive the last hour to WDW the next morning. If we're not too tired we may drive on in to Orlando and grab a room this trip. Last trip we drove through WV instead of taking our normal route and at any given moment we could see 50-60 deer along the mountainside. It was insane! I don't know the exact Interstate or route, but it was packed with deer so we decided to go through Winchester, VA again this trip.

We drove to WDW last August and stayed in a La Qunita Inn in Jacksonville. It was clean and had a nice pool, just enough for an overnight stay. We have a truck also, and we brought all our luggage in with us for the night. I did pack just an overnight bag so we wouldn't have to actually unpack anything.

I am more east of you, but we did our first drive in late Nov. Not sure how far you plan to drive or how far it is, but we found several great hotels and restaurants in the Fayetteville, NC area. For us, it was about the halfway point in our journey. WE did do the entire drive down in 1 day but on the way home we did take 2 days. It's takes us about 17hrs of actual drive time, and that includes making sure hubby drove the speed limit. Cops were just everywhere.

Hope you have a great drive!!!

GO PENS!!!!!! :)
