I know, if that isn't the craziest thing. We planned this trip after we returned from the last trip. Diligently saved the miles, booked the flight 330 days ahead, got the hotel, the condos, the car, the luau. I have actually packed the condiments, cereal, tuna, etc already. We leave 2 weeks from tomorrow. Then last Thursday I tore my Rt. rotator cuff completely through one of the major ligaments that raises and lowers my arm anteriorly. Everything I do, hurts. I have even tried ignoring it and it still hurts. I will have to have a repair when I get home but I am starting PT tomorrow. I am hoping that they can teach me a "work around" so I can kayak. I have figured out how to do my hair and make up. Ironing kills me even though I can do it left handed. This injury has just taken the wind out of my sails. I am hoping that they pain diminishes. I am saving my Vioxx for the trip. My neighbor is watching the pool for us so I have to back wash it before we leave, write out our cell phone numbers in case of "an emergency" , whatever that could be, stop the papers, the mail, etc. I feel like I need a kick in the butt to get going and I am usually excited about this stuff. :guilty:

Dawn, if you don't start packing soon I'll take your ticket and go instead. :teeth:

And hope you're feeling better!

These things,at least a lot of them, you would have to deal with at home too right? SO you could deal with the pain etc at home,or you could deal with it in Hawaii..I'd pick Hawaii!!!!!!

I just got back less than a week ago and I am still not in our time zone! I hate jet lag... I don't think I packed until the day before we left. I did take care of stopping mail and all that good stuff but actual suitcases weren't filled until the day before. Just start thinking of all the fun things you can do starting with little drinks with umbrellas :thumbsup2 and the pineapple. (I ate this every morning for 11 days and even brought a case home) I don't know if you will be able to Kayak with your injury that takes a lot of arm strength. We decided against it because me (healthy 42 female didn't think I could) I did swim with the dolphins and boogie board and we did several boat excursions that were a blast. The weather is perfect and the ocean is beautiful this time of the year!

Hawaii? You lucky thing!

Have a great time, y'hear? :goodvibes

::yes:: My DH says the same thing. He can be sick at home or in the mountains. We choose the mountains.

Dawn, can you have someone help you catch up the laundry so you can then have them pack your suitcase? It's hard to look forward to a trip with getting ready is so painful. Perhaps your doctor could Rx you a little more Vioxx to get you through this. :confused3

JennymominRI, you are right, in fact, at home I would have more stuff to do. I think a part of it is that I am afraid I won't be able to do the stuff that I planned on doing. Snorkeling shouldn't be a problem, I don't need my arms for that. Boogie boarding or trying out the surf board is out for sure however. Well, maybe not boogie boarding. Someone said that I can probably zipline if I don't "mention my arm". The good part is, I won't have to carry luggage. Skatermom, I am usually so "OCD" that I would be packed by now. I did pack some of my cosmetics, sun tan lotion, etc. Maybe tomorrow after PT I will get going. Believe me, I am excited about this trip. I think that I just thought I was somewhat indestructable and feel like my ligaments let me down.

I leave tomorrow and it sounds like you're already as prepared I am - LOL! We just dropped the dog off at our friend's, I've got the laundry done and the house clean. I'm leaving for a meeting which should take about an hour then all I have to do is pack (I already have a list made and odds and ends like laundry supplies etc. organized), and check the kid's packing.

Although much of our planning was done months ago, I didn't really review all the paperwork and do the stuff like makings lists and cancelling things until I was about a week out.

If I were you, I'd put everything off and rest for a few more days! I hope you get better soon and enjoy your trip! We'll tell them you're coming - LOL. Tomorrow night - the Hale Koa hotel!

Good advice. Save a lounge chair by the pool for me! Did you book your luau? I love the luau there and the price is excellent. The most affordable in Hawaii!!!

I hope your shoulder gets better enough to enjoy your trip.

I agree with resting for maybe even a week and then get back to preparations.

why bother packing much-hawaii is the land of the cheap t-shirts and bathing suits. just pack the bare necessities and anything else you can grab at the local 'abc' store :thumbsup2 seriously-if you're in a condo and will be doing laundry-take stuff that is wash and wear-no ironing to mess with (and you can grab laundry detergent that has fabric softner built in to help with the process).

be prepared that pt can make you feel worse before you feel better-and depending on how long your flight is you may not feel as good when you get off the plane as when you get on. i'de suggest talking to your doctor about giving you some extra pain meds to take with you-and take it now as instructed. pain managment means taking care of the pain before it overtakes you (and prevents you from using the affected area such that it gets harder to use in recovery). you might also want to invest in a sling to bring along-it's amazing how just the jostleing of walking can impact an injured arm (if nothing else-it may provide some relief at the end of the day to have it supported).

I agree that you should take a few days off, and worry about packing later. Actually, you are probably so good at this packing stuff you'll only need 48 hours anyways.

Relax - hope you're feeling better soon!

:)

disykat: Better bring your umbrella. Hurricane Daniel is coming our way this weekend.

One word Dawn-delegate. I know you've got some strapping guys there. Use em.
Keep your arm loosend up but also let it rest and get those boys hummin'.

Well I started PT today and I have sort of good news about my shoulder. There is nothing I can do to further injure it because "IT IS SHOT ALREADY". :rotfl2:
He did iontophorisis, but recommended that a bite the bullet and get the cortisone shot. He feels that it will eliminate a lot of the inflamation and will probably work for a few weeks. I booked the shot for tomorrow morning. :scared1: The exercises are to maintain my range of motion and strength. The tendon/muscle (supraspinatous?) that is responsible for initiating up and down isn't connected. He did say the more I did with it, the easier the recovery would be post op, so the plan is; I am going to get packing. I am going to ignore it and compensate. But I promise I will get the shot.
