O.k. Soo We are leaving for Florida in two days, :cool1: and My question is, Is there anything I should wait to purchase untill we get over the boarder? We are driving and will be bringing a cooler with us. Should I fill it at home, or should We make a quick stop and pick up a few things in the states?
Is anything specifically cheaper in the states? :confused3
ex.. Diapers, milk, snacks, ect...
Thanks for any input!

I'd check out some US grocery store websites to see what the prices are. When we were in Florida last October, most of the prices in the grocery store flyers were comparable to the prices back in Canada. But they DO have lots of products in the US that you can't get up here. We always treat ourselves to Yoo Hoo, cheese in a can, and Keebler cookies! :)

don't bring citrus across the boarder. They will ask if you have fruit. Apples are okay but not citrus. Have a great time we fly to Disney on Sunday

Drive safe and have fun! I found milk (all dairy actually) to be about half the price that we pay here in Alberta. We pay $5.25 for a 4 litre jug of milk and it was $2.89 for the comparable 1 gallon jug. Cheese was super cheap too.

Snack items like chips were similar priced to here. Fruit and Veggies were also similar priced to here. The brand name diapers (like pampers and huggies) were similar priced but the no-name or store brand were so cheap. I think it was $4 for a pack of 30 diapers at Walgreens.

Frozen food was cheap so if you have a kitchen, there are some quick items that you can buy and cook. We got this awesome garlic cheese bread (box with 4 big pieces) in the frozen food section for 99 cents. You would pay $4 here for a similar item. Ice Cream treats were also a couple of dollars cheaper there.

Have a wonderful trip and enjoy your vacation.:yay:

Have fun... we are flying down this winter, but I love the drive in the fall. The excitement of packing up the van for the big trek it's a great feeling.:cloud9:

Actually don't take ANY produce. I just crossed a few weeks ago and because I said I had fruit I had to pull off and show them everything. They gave me an information sheet ( currently at my girlfriends house as she leaves for DL today)

Honestly there are quite a few specifics on there - , all apples, peaches plums ect must hav stickers showing origion they were grown in.
no grapes, no citrus, no green onion

And a bunch off other regulations I forget, so my friend and I both decided to learn from my experience and to not take any produce at all. It just is not worth the bother of being pulled over.

Of course her and I have both crossed the boarder many times without even being asked ( the time I was I was at a different crossing - not sure if it was a coincidence or not that that crossing was WAY WAY less busy) but its not worth the hassel when produce can easily be bought for the cooler AFTER entering U.S.

I find dairy- milk, cheese, eggs, etc cheaper in the US. Aside from maybe some pre-made sandwiches, to hold you over, I'd just stop in a grocery store in the States. Avoid hassles at the border.

I would just wait till you get across the border for fruits and veggies. Like Carina said they can sometimes be sticky about those items.
I always do the grocery stores in the States I find they have so many different snacks that are not available here.

Drive Safe and have a great time!!

We will be there in 12 days!!:cool1:
