Leaving in just over 2 weeks.! All I've been talking/thinking about is Disney World since January when my hubby booked the trip, but now I'm trying to block it out..... BECAUSE..... I'm super SCARED of flying!!!! The excitement of disney has been dying down and the fear of flying has been taking over! I don't know what to do, I know I'm going to flip out on the plane :scared1:
I've flown before, but lately I can't even imagine myself ON a plane. I can't be the only one afraid :confused3
Last time I flew was August 2001... Right before 9/11
I vowed to never fly again, but this year, if I want to go to DW, I HAVE to fly, there's no driving to be had since I had to sinc this trip with both mine and DH's work scehdule.
We get there and everything could be find and dandy but knowing that I have to fly back.. Makes my stomach turn

call your doctor, and ask if he/she would prescribe something mild to calm yourself with. I take a VERY mild dose of calonopin (sp) when I fly as I would get IBS over it. I call my doc and he so nicely call in a script for a handful of them for my trip.

Dont worry about it, everything will be just fine. I am flying on sept 12 to MCO and I have no worries on my mind!!!!

I feel for you OP! I posted a similar thread on the UK forum recently.

I hate flying but I'm hoping medication and diversion tactics will help. Breathing exercises too. Every fibre in my body is screaming for me to run away but I'm sure I'll be safe, deep down I think I'll be OK (I hope so anyway)... but the thought of getting on a plane right now makes me physically sick.

Just wanted you to know you're not alone, and it is the safest form of travel after all! :goodvibes

Same here ...It terrifies me :scared1:
However.. I have no choice either. So I will take a XANAX possibly with a glass of wine at 6 am ... ( we leave at 7 _) and hopefully I will be fully comatose in the air. I almost made dh lose his job after our honeymoon because I was NOT getting back on a plane..

We did end up taking the plane and he still has the scars in his arm to prove it....
Hope you find something that helps...
Many Hugs :grouphug:

I just went thru this 2 weeks and 1 week ago (going....returning...) BLEH!!!
I'm with the others - if you can get some meds, DO!!! I really wish I had but since I sat with one child and DH with the other I thought I should have my full senses about be. (Like the OP said, having flown on Sept 10, 2001 seems to have affected me a lot - it did then, boy, cause our original flight was one day later and I'd changed it a few weeks prior...) ANYWAY, distractions seem to work best for me - but since I cant concentrate, readings out. So, like on some sitcom, I just nervously flip, flip, flip thru that bleeping "Sky Mall" magazine in the seat pocket. Guess I have it memorized. But, I DO try to read some of the item descriptions....by the time I've read about 10 (small print...) and thought about where I could put it in my house - we are there SAFE and SOUND!!!!!! You'll be fine - keep thinking that!!!!! :goodvibes

:wave2: There are web sites that deal with fear of flying. Sorry I don't know what they are, but if you ask on the transportation board someone there will probably know. There was a thread on this in the past month or so. Good luck, hope you find something to help you relax a little so you can enjoy your trip.

Let's just say that I have anxiety problems, so I don't know what will help! If I take Xanax or Valium and the plane goes crashing down, I'm still going to know it! I have a horrible way of thinking....You'd never know I flew to Europe 4 times! (in my younger days!) I'll have to make a Dr. Appt within the next week, see what she says. Valium makes me want to sleep. ( I had dental surgery a while back and took 10mg Valium and I didn't know who I was! Then I slept all day)

Mild sedatives do work quite well. I was nervous my first time. I just had to work up the nerve and get on the plane. I listened to music and read and anything to keep myself occupied, and I was fine. You'll be fine, ust stay busy, and try not to think about it. :thumbsup2

I know how you feel.. I hate flying I get so nervous... I am very claustrophobic.. but my DF calms me down and I have a little vodka to ease my nerves... lol

I agree that a mild sedative from your doctor would be of great help. Don't let the fear of the plane ride ruin your Disney vacation. Enjoy - and have a great time!

go to your dr. there are a lot of things that he/she can prescribe you that will prob make it all better, and maybe getting back on the plane is what you need to face your fear so to speak, plus your children will be excited to be flying and going to disney :goodvibes sending good vibes your way.

I just got an RX tonight for 5 mg valium, so hopefully that'll work! And btw- I don't have children :lmao: not yet anyway, we're waiting for this last Disney trip and then we'll see what happens ;)
Thaks for the vibes! 2 weeks to go.. YEAH!

I hate to fly also. I always take xanax and I'm in dreamland on the plane. I'm sure you'll be fine and you'll have a great time. Glad you got something to take. Once you take something and you see how easy it makes it seem to fly, you'll feel like you can fly anywhere. Since I've had xanax, I've been to Cancun and the Grand Canyon. Never thought I could do it. Have a great time!

the medication will really help you out. I get car sick so I am really thinking about getting something from my dr. as well. have a great trip!! :cool1:
