Leaving (extra) groceries at checkout?

Etiquette question as it’s our first time back at Disney in about 8 years, we are staying here now and the room next door has set an open mostly-empty case of soda, open box of individual chips and other things outside their door. We did this in Atlantis because we picked up too much at the store and wanted to leave for others when we checked out. Am I right to assume that’s what’s happening here (and we can do the same when we leave)? I don’t want to make more work for anyone (or grab a can of soda that’s not up for grabs!!). If it matters we are at the Beach Club

There are also Facebook Groups where you can post you'll leave stuff for others. I would post on FB and in the Disboard group for that resort (if Disboards allows it)? Some feel it is littering, some feel it's recycling and the employees appreciate it. Be prepared for pushback on some social media lol.

We have always left our unopened items with a note for Mousekeeping in the room. Was that a faux pas? Can Mousekeeping not accept the items for themselves?

We stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge last April, and had over-ordered unopened water, tissues, and an unopened half gallon of lactaid milk, etc. I went to the bell desk and asked if they could use the items, and the person I spoke with was more than happy to take them for their break room.

I’ll be doing this from now on when we have extra.

Last time my wife and I did not so scary while staying at the Riviera I gave the front desk our bag of candy and got to watch them all congregate to pick what they wanted. it was cool.

Like others have said I've always known to leave it in the vending/ice machine area. My wife is in one of the Facebook groups and will post it there.
